    Cabot and Hellcat

One of my old favorites in FSX and P3D is the Vertigo Grumman F6 Hellcat. Even if it is closing in on 8 years old, I think the Hellcat models are still looking very good. Both the F-3 and F-5 are included. To me the reflection values in the external model are to strong (it makes the painted surfaces almost look like bare metal) and I have changed the values in MCX.

Alberto Garcia has made a great representation of the Independence class light carrier USS Cabot CVL-28 and I have included it in the carrier formation with the USS Essex and escort. To go with it I have made a paint of Hellcat “15” from VA-32 as it looked in 1945 flying from Cabot. The squadron used a white rudder and stripes on the tail fin and ailerons (with a white outline).

Shots from P3D, but as this still is the premier forum and the models are for FSX I hope it is ok.

    Beautiful shots!

Did anyone ever manage to do a definitive "Tweak" to the Model to get this Vertigo airplane as realistic as possible?? Able to drop the gear for speedbrakes etc.?? I agree it is a terrific older FSX offering and a real beauty detail wise to view in FlightSim. There have been a lot of great repaints that have really made it that way. The Hellcat is a surprisingly rare airplane that I believe doesn't get the accolades and respect it deserves. Always in the shadow of the "Bent Wing Bird."

Jens-Ole, will you be uploading the F6F paint here?

It should be possible to upload it when it is finished!

Regarding the main gear, from what I have read so was the safe extension speed quite low, it could not be extended at high speed to be used as dive brakes (as on the Corsair). From what I understand so was it possible to dive it after the gear had been extended at low speed. If this is correct so is the flight model ok, in this regard (I'll see if I can change the airspeed when the gear is damaged though).

I fly in FSX Steam and notice that the prop animation on this aircraft is very spastic. Has anyone else noticed this? If so, is there a solution?

    1. The gear issue: Easily fixed, just change the following values in the cfg file
//14 Airspeed limit for retraction (KIAS) to something like 130
//15 Airspeed that gear gets damage at (KIAS) to something like 250 and you are good to dive with the gear if you like (after first slowing down to 130 for extension)

    2. Propeller: Looking good in FSX and P3D 3.4, at least I think so :-) Missing any textures?

    The Cabot is available here:

I have to upload it here at SOH to make it available more easily, but I never find the time...

No missing textures. Might just be a video driver issue on my side. In any case, it's not a deal breaker, as I already made some changes to the prop texture's alpha channel to reduce the effect.

    Thanks,
