Total load maxes out over NYC at around 65%, 40-50% everywhere else. I figured out any stuttering I saw was from the GPU (6GB GTX 1060) exceeding 100% usage (heavily-forested with cloudy/hazy weather), and changed my settings so it never uses over 90% in those situations. I get to keep PTA, yay!

Affinity mask can be utilized with hyper-threading disabled or enabled Pat. You can manage those settings through your BIOS.

The calculator will create a curve based on the parameters you check in the setup menu. There is a tick box for hyper-threading. Just leave that un-checked and the number will be calculated based on that parameter.

The calculator will work for dual core, quad core, hexacore and octacore processors, and there are two menu options offering Easy and Expert modes.

I did test with AM=255 and AM=116 (like on this video).
It looks like 116 gives more stable/smooth picture. Must to try more, after few days I'll know its a good option for me or only placebo effect (for i7, HT=off).

For us simmers, any discussion of Affinity Mask must be accompanied by an explanation of which external add-ons we use (much as Gordon did a couple posts ago).

Steve Waite (http://codelegend.com/) has some interesting discussions and points about Affinity Mask and Logical Processor (LP) configuration over at Avsim. The two most important facts I've learned from him... P3Dv4 must be configured to minimize thread crashing (especially critical for the first LP the sim uses) and always include your external add-ons when considering an Affinity Mask (for any sim but especially for P3Dv4).

No the 6600k does not have HT. It's just a 4 core 4 thread cpu. All i5's do not have HT.

    Go into Expert Mode and:

    1. Tick hyper-threading enabled. The page will reboot and give you the expanded menu in Expert Mode.
    2. Tick all of the boxes for 0 thru 3 for Logical and Thread.
    Example: Logical 0, Thread 0, Logical 1, Thread 1, Logical 2, Thread 2, Logical 3, Thread 3.
    3. Select Calculate. That should give you your number.

    Yes, you are correct.

Wow, that Gatwick calculator is not my first choice! I have used ProcessAffinityMask for years... portable (doesn't have to be installed), small, configurable, and easy to use (either HT or No HT). Download from here: http://www.mediafire.com/file/c8sj3m...ffinityMask.7z

Thanks, Gordon. I ran the calculator for 1111 (AM=15, default, I guess), 0111 (14), 1011 (13), 1101 (11), and 1110 (7). With affinity masks of 13, 11, and 7, Core 0 stayed at 100%, the core set to zero was very low, and of the other two cores in use by P3D, one was always twice as high as the other (often nearing 100%), so really not as balanced as it is by default for me. No noticeable increase or decrease in FPS, still no stutters. With affinity mask of 14, Core 0 was really low, and the other three were often running at 100% simultaneously, stutters galore. So I'd say I HAVE to have P3D use Core 0. Since I see more balance with default, I'll stick with that for now. Thanks again for the help.

LOL... why would they password protect that file!! I haven't had to replace the file since I started using it almost 4 years ago, but found a link at this simming site: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?topic=32520.0 The password for the calculator is "sas1946" (without double quotes).

    HTH,

    Greg
Thanks for the follow up. This little program is very handy and better than an online one from a website which one day might disappear.
