    Foxtrot, golf

Finally got 'round replacing that awful FOXTROT with a good one...well, not total crap, at least. With the hull done, the rest of the FOXTROT boats can get done, starting with the GOLF. Still have to make nightmaps, and do some fiddling with masts. Surface running and diving models, the FOXTROT has an additional model that starts submerged, surfaces and runs surfaced...unnecessary, but mucking about with animation code. They're almost keepers.

Actually, I'm pretty happy with this latest batch, the modeling is past the 'Somali goat-herder with a brain injury' stage at long last...Have to work on effects, next.

I'd totally waste (valuable) VAS on retro military ship traffic (and my time on maritime patrols in the GIUK gap). Does anyone have something like this set up (and shareable)?

Bjoern, once upon a time I figured out how to compile traffic BGL's. Then I burnt one too many blunts or took that extra blow to the head and forgot a step or a fiddle, now the damned things won't compile. I'll have to pick Henrik's brain on the subject because now the boats do a full mission and a BGL is the only way to pull that off.
Sono-buoy system. We need a sono-buoy, or a MAD gauge! Traffic radar with the range locked down to a couple NM?

Do ships show up on traffic radars or can they be filtered by type?

Doesn't AIBTC work for you anymore?

A simple solution would be using LivingWorld, but it's a bit touchy and will reset the objects at the slightest occasion.

Here's a naval radar capable of detecting ships:

RFN's radar is capable as well:

Not sure if there's any (freeware) martime patrol aircraft out there that have such a rdar integrated.

They still show as ships on the various traffic radars, so that's not an issue-just blue skying.
Still haven't figured out where I've gone wrong compiling traffic BGL's. The issue seems to be the KML file.
Done it before, so I'll work it out eventually.
Here's a thought...is there any way to modify the transparency level of FSX water textures? Couldn't do bathymetry, but could the textures be twiddled for a bit of transparency?

Nope. Even if it was possible, I think FSX doesn't use any terrain information below the water, so all you'd see beneath the waves would be the skybox.

Could you create a custom wake that shows a shadowy silhouette the shape of the hull that shows when the boat is submerged?

Hmm. Too bad. Just a tiny bit of transparency. I'll leave that to smarter people. run away!

Torg used to, Riff still does, usually.

If you don't get the reference, look up Sluggy Freelance. 20 years worth of webcomics to enjoy. I've been a fan for most of it
Tells you how good it is, and always has been.

Sorry. Back to the subs now...

...and now for subthing completely different...
When Sluggy started, the box I was using would take 20 minutes to load a strip.
I'm more a Schlock Mercenary and Viz kind 'o misanthrope. Long live Buster Gonad!
