    Consolidated PBY6A Catalina

    Hi Folks,
Well gone back to the Cats for a change. I finally managed to get the PBY5A to compile for FS9, and developed the 6A likewise.

Still a few things to do, so nearly there......

Great, so now I can do any(?!) PBY5/6A ie Madcat, OV10A etc. It is very close to the poly limit so we'll see, but pleased to get it done.

    Cheers

    A PBY-6A!?! Awesome!!!
I'm not a Catalina expert(the different types and models)but are you considering the R2600-modded-firefighter type?
    Just curious.

    Hi Joel,
No, sorry it doesn't really float my (flying) boat..

There are several civillian PBYs about that with the right tex could be a fire bomber.

    Great news!

I will, of course, convert my Classic Era skins to the updated model, and paint some -6's to go along with them.

Since many units, especially in the Reserves, operated -5 and -6 cats together, some of those skins are already ready for use on the -6. But I will try to come up with some new ones too.

Several RAAF units flew a mixed bag of Cat models, usually only as a stop gap.

    Great stuff Mick!

I'm getting close, so will send you an mdl at some stage.

Yes W, also your Kiwi brothers, including the PB2B-2 and/or Mk VI. It's not much trouble doing all the variants, it's just how many there are!!! AND correct squadrons with texs......

    @Shessi:
You're amazing! I've dreamed a long time of a radar equipped Cat, it's so great to see it becoming "vitrual" reality!

May I ask you kindly if you have any plans to create one "Radar-Cat" without gear, for the Norwegian Cats in 1945?

And if there might be some time left for, the Swedish TP47 would be an attractive exotic version too:

    Elmar jawohl! of course.

I will be doing a range of MkIV (flying boat only) Cats for the Brit and British allies squadrons, so will include a centimetric radar equiped one.

The Swedish one looks an easy mod, so why not!

Shessi old chap, I hope you will give the other allies (Soviets) something too fly.
Otherwise I'll have too read some books and lend lease one.

    Comrade Stevie,
Do you mean Russian flyingboat/floatplane types?

The PBY fits the lend-lease ac well, the Russians did use the PBY-6A, I'm not set to do the Nomad.

They also used the PBY-1 and PBY-5 as the GST, both of which I've already done...so get your paint box out..it'll be for the motherland...

I got a couple (ish) Boston's and Havoc's too complete and then I'll have a play with the cat.

    PBY Catalina french SLPAC model

    Hallo Shessi,

as you have worked and made modifications on the ALPHASIM PBY I write you for a special Question.
The french company SLPAC modified some of their Catalinas by supression of the side blisters but still had the front turret.
So I will ask you if it meight be possible to make this special model modification?
My idea (I havee no knowledge about modelling ac) are the following:
    1) to the PBY-5 adding the undercarriage of the PBY-5A
    or
    2) replacing on the PBY-5A the side blisters by the side doors of the OBY-5
Some of the SLPAC Catalinas had the glass panels of the front turret covered with metall sheets.
I join a photo to show you a plane from SLPAC.
It would be fine if it would be possible to make this model
For the moment I work on 2D panels for the PBY and I will join some repaints, so also if possible this special model.

    Yours
    Papi

    Hi Papi,
Lots of projects, BUT nearly there on the PBY's, and yes I'll see about this model, but should be fairly easy to do......

    oh that sounds fine.
So I will wait about news from you about this model.
I have just finished a simple repaint in russian colors.
even in very simple dark green colors it looks very fine with its red star

    All at sea

Many thanks Shessi. You have put an amazing amount of time in buffing up and changing the original models. The radar version looks great. Looking forward to flying them all.
    Tks again
