    A question about Roy Chaffin's B25

Recently I have installed Roy Chaffin's B-25 as there is no other choice I had to use the auto installer. Today as I wanted to remove a few liveries I never use, I tried to find the model in the aircraft folder. Much to my surprise I could find the aircraft in the folder.

I have done several searches, but the only aircraft which was found want the same B25 in my FSX install......... As I was puzzled I even installed the model in a temp folder. Nuch to my surprise it didn't show up there as well.

Do you have any idea where I can find this model?

At this moment I'm very puzzeled so any help is highly appreciated!

    Cheers,
    Huub

That's strange. The folder name in my FSX installation is B-25J RAF MkII. Hope this helps.

Mine is easy to find and it's the folder B-25J RAF MkII in the aircraft directory of FS2004

As I was puzzled I even installed the model in a temp folder. Nuch to my surprise it didn't show up there as well.

But .... extract from the readme !
This package can ONLY be installed by running the self installing EXE file directly into FS9.
Running the EXE file into a temporary folder will not work. Also copying over the files from one drive to another will not work. To install, double click on the EXE file and follow the "onscreen" instructions, making sure you point at the proper location of your version of FS9.

Thanks Brian, but it obviously isn't in FS2004. I even searched on the texture names as I assume they are the same, but the FS2004 remains hidden

It almost looks like the FS2004 was deliberately hidden.

    Cheers,

Mine is also in the aircraft folder as B-25J RAF MkII
Mmmm, Is your FS2004 NOT in it's default Program File directory?

Download this tool from http://www.flight1.com/view.asp?page=library the FS_Registry_Repair.exe, run it and tell it where the FS9.exe is.
Then try install the B-25J. Maybe this will fix it.

I also use 'Everything' from https://www.voidtools.com/
This is the fastest desktop search engine - a lot faster tham the default one.

    Good Luck,

I have several FS9 installs. The standard install, Silver wings were I fly most post war aircraft and Golden Wings, where I fly my aircraft until 1950.

In none of these install there is any trace of the RCS "B-25J RAF MkII". When I do a search on "B-25J RAF MkII" I see the FSX aircraft and two entries in the hidden applications folder which contain the state configuration file which tells FS9 how long I have flown this aircraft.

The FS9 version doesn't use the FSX files as the textures are different.

    Cheers,

    an even more puzzled Huub

Thanks to Zwobbie I have found it.....

"Everything" could locate the file. Did anyone else ever heard about a "virtual store"?

    Still puzzled

The virtual store is an interesting place 3.5 Gb of hidden information.............. But now I do understand some unexplained errors is my several FS9 installs.....

Thanks for your help guys, as said before; highly appreciated!

Is the Roy Chaffin B-25 related to the one from MAAM-Sim? They seem very similar. Both are well done, but the M-S version is less resource hungry and doesn't have the awkward pause while the panels load. Very nice paints!

    No they were totally independant.

In fact I think there was quite a row about it at the time.

    Cheers Chris

Not quite, IIRC Roy was originally on the MAAM project but there was a falling out, and yes, there was quite a row

A google search of the main sites forums might enlighten
the interested person, but I see no need to go there, what is past is past.

Roy is quite ill at the moment, unable to do any modeling at all, and always appreciates any mail from the sim fraternity. I regularly drop him a line.

Roy is quite ill at the moment
He has had a debilitating disease for years
I am glad to hear that he is still among us
