    Good morning,

Intercepting "just a few" Dorniers over France...

...and sawed the wing off of one so far...

...same shot, different angle. You can see the ground impacts on the bottom of the frame.

Got so excited with the release of Stuart277's Lexington and Saratoga that I got the urge to create a TG 58.1 mission and take some screenies- with plenty of poetic license as to which ships were use. Instead o Yorktown and Hornet I used Stuart's Saratoga and Lexington.

    Cheers,
    MR

    Hiya Bearcat,

I ran across a big huge version of just the eagles face the other day and remembered the saying from somewhere, so I just made it. Was this your avatar at some point?

Well, I tried to edit my last post but for some reason when ever I click edit all I am presented with is a blank box.

Anyway, Bearcat, I knew I had seen the image with the "Whaddya meen...." caption before. My memory got jogged when I ran across the image of the eagle and I thought-"Yes, time to change the avatar!"

Was that your old avatar? Can't think of where else I would have seen such a thing unless it was around here someplace.

Here is the image I started with:

I just squared it up, picked a bit of light orange from the beak for the lettering color, re-spelled "Whaddya" several times before it finally seemed right, and voila!

Great screenies MR. I like the formation too! Where did you find the formation info for the TG? I have been using http://pacific.valka.cz/forces/index.htm for TF/TG composition.

    Shadow Wolf,

I've come across "USF-77_TactOrdrsCVs_194103". It's too big a document to attach here, but is full of SOPs for Carrier Ops.

Attached is an article I found on USN Surface Battle Doctrine that gives some useful insights into formations & employment during the various PTO amphibious Operations.

    Hope this helps.

    Shadow Wolf,

The formation diagrams I found in various place over the years. I spent a good deal of time earlier today trying to find the sources via google but was unsuccessful.

I will zip together what I have and post them here.

There are basically 3 key images I use and the legend on one of them serves as a rough estimate for the size of each of the formations I toy around with.

The legend on the image titled "leyte" has a little mileage scale. A combination of one light colored segment and one dark colored segment equals 4 miles.

"image2" shows the dispositions and make up of the task groups during the Marianas campaign and is likely the most accurate in terms of numbers of ships and their names.

The image titled "enterprise formation" just gives a slightly different take on size and make up.

Hope these are of some use to you.
