    B-26 Drop Tank?

Is there a dp file for a drop tank on the B-26? I have not been able to locate one.

    Thanks,

Try looking through Tango's stuff over at Simviation. I know he did some B-26's. There might be something in there.

    Bub, Rami,

Thanks for replying. I'm using TR's B-26 models, none of them have a drop tank. I'm trying to recreate the 22nd BG's ferry flight from Hawaii to Australia. They used fuel tanks in the bomb bay, but none of the B-26's I have seen have a drop tank. Any ideas?

    Msfossey,

Yeah. The K. Malinowski Ju-88a-14 has an invisible internal tank you can add to any payload that can extend the range. Do you know how many gallons it contained?

    Msfossy,

This is a real quick, cheap, and dirty job, but I used the invisible internal tank weapon (included) and modified both the .air and.dp files for Tango Romeo's three B-26B models to include a drop tank entry. The .dp file lists this payload as "Long Range Ferry" with just the crew and tank as payloads.

I also noticed TR used the R-2600 engine data for this models rather than the R-2800, so I adjusted the engine data for them. If anything, they should be a little more powerful and better performers than they were before.

I don't know what this will do to the range, but if you know how to use AIREd, the entry for the drop tank is record 534. According to this website: http://www.joebaugher.com/usaf_bombers/b26.html

The B-26 could have as many as four 250-gallon bomb bay tanks for ferry flights, so if you need more avgas, just bump up the number from 250 to 500, 750, or 1,000 gallons.

I don't know what that will do to handling and/or takeoff performance, so you'll have to experiment in testing. I did not test this on my rig.

    Good luck and have fun!
