London - Christchurch Air Race of 1953

I ordered this book from Amazon about the London-Christchurch air race of 1953. There wasn't any image of the book's cover or even a description of the book, but it was the only one I found on the entire Interweb on this race, so I ordered it. Then I found this image which may be the cover, and this indicates that it may be more of a picture book than a history of the event. I can find almost nothing about this race from Google, except who won, and that it sort of followed the 1934 London-Melbourne race format - speed class and handicap class. Still looking for more info on this event...

Paul, any idea of what the mandatory stops were if any?? We know it ended in Christchurch. What London airport was the start? In between the two?? And I just noticed the yellow bits on the cover. I bet that could be a clue (feeling a bit slow about that one)

    I've got a F-80 that needs to stretch it's wings a bit.

I guess that you have found the wikipedia article about the race.

Here is an article about the DC-6 from KLM that participated in the race.

But I guess, the next link beats both.

Here you can read a contemporary article about that race, re-published in the "The Canberra Times" in 1991.

    Have fun.

None. But, I found this pic which may provide clues. I see filled in circles and open circles. I would guess the filled in circles would indicate mandatory stops, if there were any in that race.
