Doug Dawson 64 bit sound gauge released

    Hello,

Just for your information, this gauge is now released.
Any P3Dv4 compatible aircraft that uses this gauge can
    now have its sounds back.
    It is for P3Dv4 ONLY.

Freeware of course and this is Doug's request.

I would only ask that if you distribute the file, you do not include the letters 'fsx' in the name and that you not remove the letters '_x64' from the name.
I don't want anyone getting the idea that this version of the gauge will work in previous versions of FS - it's 64 bit and so of course it will not. It probably won't work in FSW either.

Nice work, Dough and thanks for the file, Nick!
Any chance to get an instruction on that gauge?
    Copy to main gauge-folder?
And what files need to be modified in the aircraft/panel- folder?
    Cheers,

    Marc

    Hello,

Here is something I wrote elsewhere, hopefully it will get you started.

This is not the only way to update the aircraft but it is the one that lets you do it
by replacing one gauge only. Check Foodland Catalogue and Foodworks Catalogue.
No editing of anything else is required.

This is the new Doug Dawson 64 bit sound gauge for P3Dv4 ONLY.
If your aircraft is installed into FSX, FSX-SE or P3D v1, v2 or v3,
you should NOT use this gauge.

It works as a direct replacement for the 32 bit gauge, so just rename it to
whatever the developer used, but do not change the .dll extension.
Replace the existing 32 bit version and you will have all your sounds back.

For example, the freeware Manfred Jahn C47 uses C47_dsd_fsx_xml_sound.gau.
Rename the new gauge to C47_dsd_fsx_xml_sound.dll
Once renamed, copy it into the panel folder and delete C47_dsd_fsx_xml_sound.gau

If you don't have the aircraft, you should, it is pretty much the definitive
version of this iconic aircraft and has features seen only at the very top
    end of payware models.

You can fix the Real Air Duke the same way, rename the gauge to
RASduke_Sound.dll and put it in the P3D gauges folder.
If it is there, delete RASduke_Sound.gau

Anything you might have that uses the DSD_FSX_XML_Sound.gau,
rename the new 64 bit version to DSD_FSX_XML_Sound.dll, delete the original gauge and
put it in your gauges folder.

There are many many aircraft, freeware and payware that use this gauge for sounds and this
method will work for all of them that are compatible with P3Dv4.
    Regards,
    Nick

    Thanks, again, Nick!
Just what I was looking for...and I can see hundreds of users scrolling though their aircraft folder now .

There will soon be an official fix for the C 47 which is not quite the same.
    Either will work.

This is Doug's comment on another forum and about the Real Air Duke turbo.

    OK,
Put the gauge in the aircraft's panel folder.
Change the panel.cfg entry to read:
    gauge21=dsd_p3d_xml_sound_x64!Sound, 1,1,2,2, \Sound\RASDukeTv2_Sound.ini
Yes, you can rename the gauge and not change the panel.cfg entry.
I don't like that approach only because I am concerned that the gauge will find its way into a 32 bit version of the sim where it will be distinctly inoperative.
So you have two choices, either rename the gauge or edit the panel.cfg that refers to it.
There is a third choice, rename the gauge and edit the panel.cfg file.
Doug prefers the second option and it's his gauge but if you rename it and include P3D and x64
in the name, its purpose should remain clear.
It would take a special kind of thinking to put a gauge named "whatever_dsd_p3d_xml_sound_x64.dll" into FSX and 32 bit.
