    Chris,

I am kind of in the same mode as you.

    I loaded a pristine CFS2 as Allen. C:\Combat Flight Simulator 2.
I then made folders; C:\BPF\Iceberg\Combat Flight Simulator 2, and C:\BPF\Meridian\Combat Flight Simulator 2, C:\BPF\Scenery\ "all your stuff and Richard's"....

I have a new gaming laptop fast enough with enough RAM both system and video to max out CFS2 settings.

My suggestions for the F keys issue is a separate keyboard. I bought a blue tooth mouse and keyboard set and everything is working nicely EXCEPT my Mission Builder.

I haven't tried to build new, but cannot access existing missions to modify.

Still working on a work-around on that.

Question I'd like to try and help Devildog73 lick this...

    Hey guys.

Devildog73 is having a Windows 10-based problem with Virtual Navy ships exclusively. Here are the contents of his PM to me...

For whatever WIN10X64 reason(s) I am not able to get VN carriers to show in CFS2 under WIN10.

It has me dead in the water on BPF until I get a new power supply for my old XP-WIN7 rig.

I have done everything I know to get them to load and cannot seem to find the right combination.

The VN ships, battleships and carriers will no load and are not available in MB on my new gaming powerful laptop.

What are y'all's thoughts on getting some newer RN battleships/carriers circa 1945 BPF?

All of his other ships are fine! Any ideas here?

    Allen,

I have no earthly idea. I don't have Windows 10 so I can't replicate this. Perhaps doing a dual-boot rig?

I would try taking a VN model and put it into one of the stock ships that work. If the model is showing than next would be too look at the VN DP and CFG coding. If they look good try dropping them into a stock ships that work. Edit the VN CFG so that it use the stock ships title= and sim= name. It things still work than my guess is that it has something to do with folder/title=/sim= name.

Beginning to wonder if this a graphics card issue. The newest cards are dropping the older language drawcalls, & I wonder if this is behind it. Particularly as WIN10 had such trouble recognising all sorts of devices when it first came out...

Along these lines, can I drop VN Illustrious textures into one of the stock carriers work?

I will play around with it and see what shows and what doesn't. I will put the model into the Enterprise and the dp into Essex and see what happens.
I may also d/l one of the Yorktowns and drop the changed name cfg in it.

I can view all the VN ships using ModelconverterX, so I really don't think it's a model issue. It must be a graphics driver/ hardware issue perculiar to WIN10, or your hardware configuration. Maybe another WIN10 user can report back on whether they see the VN Illustrious revamp in their sim..

Yes, perhaps the vid card. My laptop is a gamer's laptop with an NVidia GeForce GTX 1050Ti with 4GB Vid memory, with 8GB system memory, and Intel HD Graphics 630 which has 2GB memory taken from the system 8GB. I am using the GTX for CFS2.

Are gMax ships working? Stuart277 makes quite a number. Try one of his that I know are FS2004 models converted back to CFS2. http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...d=90250&sort=d

If his ships work than maybe I can start converting the VN ships that I think are FSDS to gMax so they will work in Lose10.

    Interesting
    I have Windows 10. CFS2 on Program Files (x86).
With regard to the VN ships, I have no problem. (I have had a few others)
I made a GMax copy of t VN_Illustrious, using modeconvertX. It worked OK and as a surprise, it was textured as the original VN model.
In any case, I have sent a copy to DD so he can test it.
    Cheers

The files you sent me worked for being able to take off of HMS Illustrious.
I took a circle and all four carriers are showing in the missions.

NONE of them or any other VN ships are available in Mission Builder still.
I'm going to do a circle again and see if I can land on the other carriers.

    Well,............................................. ...................

I can land on the other aircraft carriers................................This is HMS Indomitable.

    AND,.............................................. .................................

It helps to have your gear down......................................
I now know I can belly land on a carrier with no injuries.

Although, the contact points are off a bit in WIN10. Taking off of HMS Illustrious my tires looked flat they were so low into the deck.
You can see from the screenshot that my flaps were full extended and on down in the deck.

Are they not being listed or are you getting an error when you try to select one from the list?

Allen, not being listed at all in MB.

They worked fine in XP and WIN7X64 on my other rig.

    WIN10x64 not so much.

They are listed in mdlnames, descript dat, and callsign dat and have their photos in info folder.

As below, I can take off of the modification Stuart gave me for Illustrious in a mission and the other carriers show up. I can land on them, but if I try a mission which takes off of one of them, it either drops me into the ocean, or CTD.

Scratched my head bald on this one..........

Dose going back to stock set up for folder, title and sim let the ship be listed. Ex:VN_HMS_Indomitable45 to SHIndomitable45 or SHB_Indomitable45. All stock ships start with SH.

Tried it and it didn't make any difference.
Tried it with and without dummy text files in the panel and sound folders.
Made a new entry in the mdlnames file.

In fact, there are several ships NOT showing in my dropdown menu in MB which are in my ships folder and mdlnames.

I had to move some of my games to a different drive as Windows 10 does weird things on the C drive. I experienced a similar issue with CFS3. I could see the files in the CFS3 folder but I could not access them in the game. I moved the games to an external drive and everything worked. Sometimes moving the program outside of the default Programs Files/Program Files (x856) will let it work.

    I'm still suspecting hardware.

IIRC the VN ships were developed using FSDSv.1 & I suspect the brand new gaming laptop that Lee has uses graphics hardware that is so new it doesn't recognise the (very old) draw calls that FSDSv.1 uses.

MS will claim DX12 is fully backwards compatible, but even if we believe that it doesn't mean the hardware providers have fully maintained all this backward compatibility within their architecture.

Nobody else is reporting the same issues, but has anybody else replaced their hardware as recently as Lee has?
If they have, & can see the VN ships, how about comparing hardware specs instead?
