    A question about NVidia Drivers

This is a topic that has been visited in the past and since a new driver has surfaced I thought it was worth visiting again. I am aware that it's necessary to keep your system updated and running as smooth as possible. Further, where Flightsim is concerned there are always updates for addons and utilities that keep our toys humming along.

Graphics Drivers and specifically Nvidia Drivers are updated on a very regular basis and Nvidia is probably the most popular card for those running FlightSim (not the only one, but the most popular). In all the years I have used their cards and run the updated drivers I have never heard anyone say. . ."YOU HAVE GOT TO SEE WHAT THIS DRIVER DOES FOR MY SIM". . . ."You just have to get it". I do remember several years ago while reading through some forum posts at LM/P3D that one of the Admins stated that LM and Nvidia were looking at developing a partnership that would allow Nvidia to design or at least aim more improvements at the Flightsim community specifically. As far as I can tell (from reading the contents of the updates/fixes published with new drivers), they continue to be geared solely to the gaming community and to specific games within that community. Nothing at all related to Flight Sim (we are not a game, thank you).

So, other than wanting to keep the current drivers. . .current. . . .why should we jump at every new driver as if it's the savior we've been waiting for to transform our world?

I don't update unless I'm having problems. I was using a two-year-old driver for my previous card for FSX. I did update my new 1060 to 382.53 because of reports of memory leaks in the one I got when I installed the card in April (381.65). If I see a mention of Prepar3d in an update, then I'll update, but otherwise, I'm sticking with this one.

    + 1 If it ain't broke....

It is not like they add new features that benefit us.

I have... too many times. Usually the increase in speed they claim to see is because they failed to configure the driver as they had the previous version. Since both GPU manufacturers have shown little interest in building driver sets for us simmers I do what so many folks do... I leave well enough alone.
