    Good afternoon,

    "title_string"=Slag om Nederland -
    "summary_string"=Reports of invasions from the Swiss border to the North Sea have been coming in, so we are sending patrols in every direction to sweep for any sign of enemy aircraft. Your flight will patrol high across southern Holland, looking for any German fighters or bombers. If you locate the enemy over Holland, show 'em we are ready to defend our nation to the last!
    "objective_string"=At dawn on 10 May 1940, several Dutch Fokker G.1 fighters were in action over Waalhaven which was being bombed by Heinkel bombers of KG 4. Three of these Fokker G.1s were damaged by return fire from the He-111s, but no less than seven Heinkels were shot down, and two others damaged by these "Moer" fighters in the process. The Fokker earned its moniker from the eight .303 inch machine guns clustered in the nose of the plane.
    "intelligence_string"=After taking off, your patrol will take you across two major Dutch cities. You'll overfly Amsterdam, then the southern end of the Zuiderzee, & finally Utrecht before returning to Waalhaven field. The altitude for this hop will be 4,000 meters. If you do run into Luftwaffe flights, they'll likely come from the northeast or east. Top priority should be given to bombers over fighters, especially if they target cities or airfields. If Waalhaven is raided, land at Ockenberg aerodrome as your alternate.
    "player_aircraft_name_string"=Fokker G1A 1940 311
    "airfield_string"=Holland - Waalhaven (Rotterdam)

    Right now, it seems I'm able to sustain a pace of about one mission per day.

    Ravenna,

    "title_string"=Slag om Nederland -
    "summary_string"=Reports of invasions from the Swiss border to the North Sea have been coming in, so we are sending patrols in every direction to sweep for any sign of enemy aircraft. Your flight will patrol high across eastern Holland, looking for any German fighters or bombers. If you locate the enemy over Holland, show 'em we are ready to defend our nation to the last!
    "objective_string"=On 10 May, sometime after the raid on Waalhaven by KG 4, the field was struck again, this time by Stukas of IV(St)/LG 1 and by Junkers transports from III./KGzbV.1, who were possibly attempting to capture this base with paratroops or simply by landing there. Fokker G.1s were again engaged in defending the skies, engaging both the Stukas and Ju-52s, force-landing after exhausting their fuel. Where they landed is unknown, and there are also no records of any Dutch or German losses for this mission.
    "intelligence_string"=After taking off, while other flights patrol to the north & south, you will cover along the Rijn to the German border, looking for any potential attacks coming from the southeast and east. Shorter-range transports and dive-bombers could try to sneak in while our attention is elsewhere. Your altitude for this hop will be 3,500m. If you do locate German aircraft, engage them and take them down. If they reach and attack Waalhaven, you will land instead at an alternate field, Valkenburg.

    Good morning,

    Probably the only mission I will get to today, but I am keeping pace...

    "title_string"=BoF Jagdgeschwader - Initial foray above Holland
    "summary_string"=Besatzungen, aufgepasst! As our bombers begin to take to the air, we need our best fighter pilots to sweep the skies above France & the Low Countries and "plow the road" for Fall Gelb! You will lead a schwarm to the city of Amsterdam, and sweep the Dutch skies for dawn patrols that could interfere with our bombing raids! Let's show the Dutch that the war is now at their doorstep!
    "objective_string"=On the morning of 10 May 1940, both Bf-109s and Bf-110s were sent out on sweeps with or ahead of the bombers to locate and engage dawn patrols by French, Belgian, British, and Dutch aircraft. One of the patrols, a Dutch flight of Douglas DB-8As, were decimated by a dawn patrol of Bf-110s from II/ZG 1. In the badly mismatched dogfight, seven DB-8As were shot down by Bf-110s with no losses for themselves.
    "intelligence_string"=After departing Trier, you will form up and climb to 3,500 meters as you head north-northwest over eastern Belgium and into Holland. As you approach Amsterdam from the south, scan the skies for any signs of enemy aircraft, especially near Schiphol, which will be just off your port wing. If the skies are clear over Amsterdam, you will turn southeast & recross Belgium on your way back to Trier. Viel gluck!

    Good morning,

    Still plugging away, got a few more under the ol' belt...

    "title_string"=BoF Jagdgeschwader - Salute the Fallschirmjäger
    "summary_string"=Männer aufgepasst! Fallschirmjäger have captured Waalhaven aerodrome, but have been under heavy attack by Dutch aircraft. Your fighters will clear the air over Waalhaven and defend the base from any further Dutch raids. Let's show our troops now on the ground that we will do everything we can to ensure their success!
    "objective_string"=This is an amalgam of about four separate attacks on Waalhaven by the Dutch Air Force after it was seized by Fallschirmjäger. Between 1225 & 1328, Waalhaven was attacked by Fokker light bombers, including the C.V, C.X, & some T5 medium bombers. Fokker D.XXI fighters provided some escort, and a second flight has been added from a clash with Bf-109s of II/JG 26 earlier that morning. Other German 109s on this raid were from III/JG 3 and II/JG 27. The Bf-110 squadrons are unknown, but likely II/ZG 26 or V.(Z)/LG 1. Several aircraft of each Dutch type were lost during these raids, with several more damaged.
    "intelligence_string"=Once in the air, you'll form up with the other two flights and fly west-southwest toward Rotterdam. The aerodrome has been recently captured by our paratroops. While over the airfield, you'll engage any Dutch fighters and bombers that try to attack the aerodrome. The Bf-110s will focus on engaging the bombers, and your 109s should initially focus on the enemy fighters, but you may also assist in bomber attacks as needed or when practical. Once the skies are clear, you will form up and return to Plantlunne.
    "player_aircraft_name_string"=AH_BF109E_Witt_Schla geter-JG26
    "airfield_string"=Germany - Plantlunne

    "title_string"=Slag om Nederland -
    "summary_string"=To your fighters! We are continuing patrols as the Germans invade to engage them in the air, and thus avoid being caught on the ground. You'll lead two other flights over Northern Holland & into the Ems Estuary, hopefully catching all inbound formations from Northern Germany before they get a chance to raid our airfields! Let's show the Germans that we will not be overrun!
    "objective_string"=On 10 May 1940, the inferiority of Dutch fighters against enemy opponents was made painfully clear. Whilst the Fokker DXXI was a solid fighter when initially produced in the mid 1930s, by the German invasion it was woefully obsolete. This was proven on this date when three were brought down & six others damaged during a dogfight with Bf-109s of II(J)/Trägergruppe 186 over De Kooy aerodrome. Despite obsolescent equipment, these Dutch pilots performed admirably, shooting down two Bf-109s and damaging a third.
    "intelligence_string"=After taking off, you will proceed east-northeast over the Zuiderzee & across far northern Holland to reach the Estuary of the River Ems. This marks the border with Germany. Your task is to look for any enemy flights coming in from this direction. If the skies are clear, you will head back to De Kooy. Most of the activity to this point has been further south, so if you do not locate the enemy, this will not be unexpected. Good luck!
    "player_aircraft_name_string"=Fokker DXXI Netherland No.241
    "airfield_string"=Holland - De Kooy

    "title_string"=BoF Jagdgeschwader - Neutralize De Kooy airfield
    "summary_string"=Kamerad, herhören! To help eliminate Dutch planes from interfering with Luftwaffe operations over Holland, fighters from JG 26 and ZG 26 are being asked to fly both fighter sweeps and strafe enemy airfields to damage or destroy their planes on the ground. Your fighter will attack the airfield at De Kooy, & help to prevent the Dutch from using this base!
    "objective_string"=This is an amalgam of four separate strafing raids on De Kooy naval airfield by 109s & 110s between 0800 & 1240 hours on 10 May. From these attacks and a bombing strike by KG 4 during the morning, thirty-five planes were destroyed, though most of these were trainers. No losses were recorded by the Luftwaffe, & because both JG 26 and ZG 26 were heavily involved in actions over Holland, it is assumed that these two units made the attack runs on De Kooy, but this can't be confirmed.
    "intelligence_string"=Following takeoff, you will form up with the other fighters & fly north-northwest from your airfield to De Kooy, crossing the Rhine and the Zuiderzee along the way. The Dutch airfield lies within sight of the southern end of Texel island, so it should be easy to spot. Over the airfield, the targets are ammo crates, fuel stores, & parked aircraft. You have also been provided with two bombs that you can use at your discretion. Along with these other fighters, your altitude for the mission will be low; all flights will keep below 1,500 meters. Once you use your bomb & exhaust all your ammo, return to base.

    Icon22 Where things stand...Battle of France / Low Countries

    Good morning,

    I just wanted to give an update on where things stand. Despite the craziness of preparation and some personal circumstances that I've alluded to in other threads, I am motoring along on the Dutch portion of the project, which is the last part.

    I've been primarily concentrating on scenery building, including Boskoop, Gouda, Ouderkerk, and Wageningen, towns in Belgium (Courtrai, Lier, Menen, Onze-Lieve-Vrouw-Wavre, Wervik) and France (Cayeux-sur-Mer, Fourmies, Hesdin, Peuplingues, Rocroi, Saint-Pol-sur-Ternoise, and Saint-Vallery-sur-Somme) that were previously overlooked.

    Fortunately, I do not have to build Amsterdam!

    Achim has also been kind enough to build two new airfields for this last stage, and this would not have been possible without the airfields provided by Kdriver that he turned into GSL from Cees Donker's original Dutch work.

    I should have the scenery and the missions finished by the end of July, as I will have some time to work on this during the evening and while recovering from surgery to alleviate boredom.

    I plan on a release date of about 10 August.

    Good morning,

    Both German bomber campaigns are now completed...and I am working on the final two German fighter missions, one for the Bf-109 and the other for the Bf-110.

    "title_string"=BoF Kampfgeschwader - Hasten the ground "Blitz"
    "summary_string"=Aufpassen Männer! With the aerial success on the first day, we must sustain this heavy pressure and continue to pound these Dutch airfields! Your 111s will raid the airfield at Hilversum, also at sunrise, and make sure that the Dutch cannot recover from yesterday's shock to defend themselves!
    "objective_string"=The German effort to catch much of the Allied air forces on the ground was especially successful in Holland and Belglum. Most of both air forces were destroyed during the two days of 10-11 May 1940, although not without some considerable cost to the Germans. The raid by an unknown bomber gruppe, possibly KG 4 or KG 54, actually occurred on 10 May, but the mission date has been altered by one day to give broader representation of the German effort in Holland.
    "intelligence_string"=After takeoff you will form up with the other 111s & then head southwest toward Hilversum airfield, which lies southwest of Amsterdam. The timing of this bombing raid should be close to sunrise, this will likely catch the Dutch aircraft on the ground. After you release from 3,500m, turn immediately northeast & head back to Varrelbusch, as you will certainly be in action again later today as events continue to unfold.
    "player_aircraft_name_string"=GC_He111H6
    "airfield_string"=Germany - Varrelbusch

    "title_string"=Slag om Nederland -
    "summary_string"=To your fighters! We are continuing patrols as the Germans invade to engage them in the air, and thus avoid being caught on the ground. You will lead a patrol on one of two routes above several cities in Southern Holland, hopefully catching all inbound formations from Western Germany before they get a chance to raid our airfields & cities! Let's show the Germans that we will not be overrun!
    "objective_string"=This is an amalgam of four distinct sorties flown by Fokker DXXIs on the morning of 10 May, 1940. During these sorties, three Fokkers were lost and another badly damaged. During these missions, the Fokkers attacked Junkers Ju-88s that raided The Hague, Messerschmitt Bf-110s escorting Do-17s to Valkenburg, 109s patrolling above Ouderkerk, and Ju-52 transports. No record of German losses was recorded. This is a 50/50 mission, meaning you'll randomly fly one of the two patrol routes with the chance of running into two intercept scenarios on each route.
    "intelligence_string"=After takeoff, you'll fly one of two patrol routes over southern Holland looking for enemy fighters, bombers, or transports. If you do encounter them, you're free to engage at will & take down as many as possible. Once you exhaust your ammo, you will return to De Kooy. It is also possible that you do not see any combat; in this case you'll also return to De Kooy. Altitude for your hop will be 3,000m, this may put you above or below enemy formations during the mission, so be prepared for both. Good luck!

    Good morning,

    The last two German fighter missions are completed, and with the bomber missions done, I will finalize the two fighter campaigns today. For the Bf-109 and Bf-110 campaigns, there will be a split in the campaign file as to whether you fly missions in Belgium and Holland, or in France, in addition to random chance elements in the campaign file. It will just provide greater playability.

    "title_string"=BoF Jagdgeschwader - Sunrise above Haamstede
    "summary_string"=Meine Herren! With our forces continuing the push west, we'll assist their effort by making sure that the skies above & in front of them are clear. Your Bf-110s will strafe Haamstede airfield at dawn, & ensure that the planes there cannot be used in any further operations against our forces!
    "objective_string"=At dawn on the morning of 13 May, the Luftwaffe flew one of its final offensive operations against Dutch fields in the initial stage of their campaign, as by this point much of the Dutch aerial defenses had been neutralized. Fighters from ZG 1 strafed the Dutch airfield of Haamstede and destroyed or damaged several Dutch Fokker aircraft of various types. There is no record of German losses during the mission, nor of interception by Dutch aircraft.
    "intelligence_string"=After takeoff, you'll fly west-northwest to reach Zeeland. This airfield is on Schouwen-Duiveland, the island of north of Walcheren. As you near the airfield, remain low and use your machine guns in the nose to destroy parked aircraft, ammo crates, and fuel stores. If you can keep your speed high, this will help shield you from heavy anti-aircraft fire. Once your runs are complete, break off and head southeast before making your way back into Germany. This may not be your only action today, so be sure to get the day off to good start!
    "player_aircraft_name_string"=TR_Bf110_C
    "airfield_string"=Germany - Monchengladbach

    "title_string"=BoF Jagdgeschwader -
    "summary_string"=Kameraden, herhören! Our ground units have been unable to capture the aerodrome of Deelen, which continues to hold off their attacks. Your fighters have been asked to support these ground units by strafing the base, and destroying parked aircraft, fuel stores, ammo crates, and hangars. Hopefully, this will end stubborn Dutch resistance and allow our ground units to push forward!
    "objective_string"=On 12 May 1940, De Mok airfield was strafed and badly damaged by 109s of II(J)/TrGr.186. During the attack, several Fokker C VIIIs & C XIVs were destroyed. Unfortunately, there are no records of German losses for the mission, & other info about this raid is unknown. The time of day is fictional, and the possibility of Dutch fighter resistance is also fictional. Further, the airfield of Deelen has been used as a substitute for De Mok in order to use existing airfields.
    "intelligence_string"=The Dutch airfield at Deelen lies almost directly southwest of your airbase. After takeoff, you will head southwest and climb to 2,000m, crossing the tip of the Ems Estuary on the way into Holland. As you approach the airfield, remain low & keep your airspeed high; this will help you to avoid flak over the base. Focus on strafing parked aircraft, fuel stores, & ammo crates. Once your raid is complete, you'll reverse course & fly northeast to return to Flensburg. Be sure not to loiter for too long above the airfield, otherwise you risk a night landing!

    Major milestone achieved...

    Hey guys,

    Still a ways off from release, but a major milestone achieved. The last mission of the first BoF package has been completed, the raid by Kampfgeschwader 54 on Rotterdam. Ninety He-111s to coordinate in formation...not for the faint of heart.

    Kdriver and I joke about it now, but the initial thought for this campaign package was a total of thirty missions. The final tally ended up being 337.

    RAF / BEF (126 missions)

    Advanced Air Striking Force (11 missions)
    RAF 1/73 Squadron (14 missions)
    RAF 3 Squadron (16 missions)
    RAF 32/56 Squadron (12 missions)
    RAF 85 Squadron (10 missions)
    RAF 87 Squadron (9 missions)
    RAF 607 Squadron (11 missions)
    RAF Spitfire Squadron (11 missions)
    Bomber Command (23 missions)
    Lysander Squadron (9 missions)

    Armee De l'air (75 missions)

    French fighter missions (52 missions)
    French bomber missions (23 missions)

    German missions (117 missions)

    German Stuka campaign (22 missions)
    German Bf-109 campaign (29 missions)
    German Bf-110 campaign (21 missions)
    German bomber campaign North (22 missions)
    German bomber campaign South (23 missions)

    Belgian missions (10 missions)

    One word: WOW

    What a huge effort, not to look down of all your previous work. Looking forward to the release date. Thank you Rami. This site simply would not exist without you.

    Multiplication

    Rami,

    Such a huge effort must surely reflect all the research you did. Either that or the mis files have been breeding like rabbits.

    Greg,

    Many thanks. Good thing I finished the missions in the nick of time, it looks like I'm going to be quite busy this semester!

    Exclamation FYI BoF beta testing...

    Hey guys,

    I uploaded a new copy of the Battle of France (with auto-installers, of course) to my box.net site (in the beta testing folder) that is about 99% complete; there are some final adjustments to be made, such as the AA guns, and a couple of minor changes to a couple readme files, as well as two pieces of GSL scenery. (These don't affect the missions themselves)

    Other than that, I'm just waiting on the release of The Netherlands airfield package, and the completion of pages on the Free Flight Site, and we should be good to go!

    Anyone who tests it, please post screenshots and provide feedback. Thanks!

    Question I have a “Eureka” moment, now I need to understand WHY!

    Hey guys,

    One of the things that has been vexing me is that during Stuka missions, some of the AI would attack and some would not.

    After throwing my hands up in frustration several times, it turned out to be a payload issue. I use Wolfi’s Stuka with the Dbolt .dp weapons profile.

    To vary the payload effect, I chose to use SC500 and SD500 bombs, and have two flights equipped with one and two with the other. The all AI Stuka flights laden with SC500 bombs attack with no problems and those laden with SD500 bombs don’t, they simply fly on to the next waypoint.

    So...why? Is the SD500 bomb an anti-shipping weapon or something?

    I’m glad I cracked this nut, but I want to know more now!

    Is there some difference in the DP files for these weapons in "objects_DP" folder? I've looked at mine and have a few different bombs labeled SC500 and SD500 with various prefixes, but they all have the same family, category and type.
