    Greg,

That's the Groundcrew model. We're only using the Ark Royal 1941 model for this campaign project, but with panel and sound files, as well as a tweaked .dp file by UncleTgt and modified .air and .cfg files.

It's all inclusive, and is similar to the Taranto 194o model used in The Balkans Project. We plan for all contingencies.

Just curious. Why did you choose Alphasim's model over Groundcrew's one?

    Roxanne-21,

Better visual model, good frame rates through use of a multi-lod model, panel, a genuine Pegasus soundpack, better AI behavior, and a more realistic flight model.

Funny, maybe my screenshot was of the wrong plane. I just went to the Alphsim site and downloaded the same 3-plane download that I named above (along with a couple of their Skyraiders). Hmmm...

    Rami,

I think I had read somewhere that the Swordfish's high drag coefficient did not allow the speed to build rapidly in a dive and thus allowed enough time in the dive to line up a target and drop its ordinance before reaching Vne (velocity never exceed) speed.

How this could be set in the air file though is another question. Maybe in a mach section?..since increasing air drag would result in needing to increase thrust for correct airspeed and then the range would be off if that were done. Oh well.....seems like there maybe a way to adjust with some experimentation in the air file....perhaps just setting the spoiler drag and using the corresponding CFS2 key in the dive.

    Best Regards,
    O

    Good morning,
Slow as molasses because of the semester, but not forgotten. Another mission completed...thanks to Kdriver for completing the Aa Canal!

"title_string"=Battle of France (RAF) - Desperation over Gravelines
"summary_string"=Listen up, chaps! With the Germans now closing on Dunkirk, we must utilize every asset to try & halt their advance! Your Swordfish have been called to action to hit German positions along the Aa Canal, and any columns in the sector! We must find a way to protect Dunkirk; it is the only port left. Failure to protect it will surely mean the surrender of the BEF! We must keep the way open!
"objective_string"=During the late afternoon and evening of 24 May, the British sent out several waves of Swordfish to attack German positions at Gravelines along the Aa Canal, and German columns along the roads just to the west. The Swordfish were from 825 Squadron of the Fleet Air Arm, based at Detling. Three 613 Sqn Lizzies also participated. Two, possibly three Swordfish were lost to anti-aircraft fire in these desperate assaults, but mercifully, the Swordfish were not intercepted by German fighters.
"intelligence_string"=Once in the air, head east-southeast and approach the village of Gravelines from the northwest. The enemy positions are along the western side of the Aa Canal, which your flight will strike, along with the Lysanders, who will meet you near the target. The second flight of Swordfish will look for and attack a Panzer convoy nearby. After your strike, you will clear out to the west before returning to England. The primary danger for this mission will be anti-aircraft fire; the Swordfish is very slow, so make sure to toss your plane around the sky to avoid being targeted!

"title_string"=BoF Jagdgeschwader - Fly into the hornet's nest
"summary_string"=Aufpassen Männer! Our forces have now bypassed Calais, and are close to isolating Dunkirk, now the only harbour remaining in Allied hands. If we can knock this harbor out of operation, we will isolate the British and French, who are cut off from their forces to the southwest! We might even be able to force them into a full surrender, and complete our conquest of the west! Your best efforts today are demanded to make this happen!
"objective_string"=During the late afternoon of 24 May 1940, 74 Sqn Spitfires patrolling at Angels 20 just south of Dunkirk ran into nine He-111s of KG 54, escorted by Bf-109s of III/JG 3 and II/JG 26. When the Spitfires attacked, three bombers were damaged, and one had to force-land. However, two Spitfires were shot down by the 109 escort and a third was damaged. For the German fighters, one Bf-109 of JG 3 was hit by flak over Dunkirk & force-landed in Belgium.
"intelligence_string"=After leaving Beauvechain, you will fly northwest and climb to 6,000 meters. You should rendezvous with the bombers north of Ghent, and bring 'em to Dunkirk. Because Dunkirk is the only port remaining in Allied hands, we are sure the British & French will defend it at all costs. Be prepared for enemy fighters & flak, & draw enemy fighters away from the bombers. After bringing the bombers to safety over Zeeland, return to base. Viel Gluck!

    Good evening,

    Here is another mission completed...

"title_string"=Battle of France (RAF) - Dangerous Dornier gunners
"summary_string"=To your planes! While other squadrons flew early patrols this morning, 92 Squadron had a rest. Now it is your turn. You will fly from Dunkirk down the coast, covering the port of Calais while we hastily evacuate men from this pocket. If German bombers try to attack this port, tear into any bombers and try to disrupt their attacks. Let's show the enemy that we'll ensure our trapped forces can evacuate safely!
"objective_string"=During the morning of 24 May 1940, 92 Squadron on their morning patrol between Dunkirk & Calais tangled with Do-17s of KG 77 and their escort of Bf-110s, possibly of II/ZG 26. In the engagement, one bomber was shot down and three others were damaged, but the Dornier gunners on this mission defended themselves aggressively, shooting down one Spitfire flown by Peter Casenove & damaging three others, including that of Flt Lt. R. Stanford Tuck. It is unknown if any 110s were damaged or shot down along with these bombers. It is assumed that Calais was the target, given that the port was now isolated; this cannot be verified historically.
"intelligence_string"=After leaving Hornchurch, your Spitfires will fly across Kent & over the Channel to reach Dunkirk. From here, you will patrol along the coast down to Cape Gris-Nez. With Calais now totally isolated, it is likely that the port will be targeted. If you run into any fighters or bombers, engage 'em & focus on taking down as many bombers as you can. Once you exhaust all ammo, break off & head across the Channel to return to England. Be sure to check six when attacking the bombers, we want to minimize any further Spitfire losses!

    Good evening,

    E. A. Wicklund - No one does open grass fields quite like Captain Kurt.

This Lysander is a wonderful example of cooperation. Rockster originally did the aircraft, then UncleTgt did the prop textures and revised the .dp file, getting rid of the drop tank, and baldy contributed winglets as a .dp object so that we would use the model in CFS2.

I'm looking forward to finishing this project soon!

Oh, that rocks. That is a great looking field. Any chance you have a mission where a Lysander must make a really, really short landing? That's what they're great at after all.

Yeah...there are two very short fields both used by Lysanders...Aspelare in Belgium, and Monchy-Lagache in France, both created by Kdriver.

    Good evening,

Haven't given up, still plugging away when I can, just going real slow while I get caught up on my grad school work.

"title_string"=Battle of France - Locating Messerschmitts at Verdun
"summary_string"=Ce soir, à vous de patrouiller! Enemy fighters have been aggressively increasing their patrols over the Somme, Ainse, and Oise Rivers, possibly preparing for an attempt to push further into France. You'll patrol a sector near Verdun this evening, looking for these patrols, and showing the Luftwaffe that we are still ready and willing to fight!
"objective_string"=The evening of 24 May 1940 saw P-36 Hawks from GC II/5 on patrol ran into Messerschmitt Bf-109s of JG 52 over the town of Longuyon, near the city of Verdun. In this encounter, the P-36 pilots shot down one Bf-109 & damaged another, without any apparent loss to themselves. They returned to the aerodrome at Nancy-Essay & then retired for the evening.
"intelligence_string"=After getting airborne, you'll fly north-northwest and climb as you sweep over the abandoned fields at Senon & Étain-Rouvres, near Verdun. If you do encounter enemy aircraft in the area, engage them of possible from an advantage in speed or height, and try to bring down the enemy before they have the chance to gain the upper hand. Once the skies are clear or you exhaust all of your ammo, return to Nancy-Essay airfield, where you will retire for the evening.
    "player_aircraft_name_string"=FDG2_P-36 Capt Jean Accart GC I 5 Pontarlier 1940
    "airfield_string"=France - Nancy

"title_string"=BoF Jagdgeschwader - Rough times above Calais
"summary_string"=Männer aufgepasst! Our Panzers forces have just isolated Calais, and we must now establish control of the skies above the area to deny the British the chance to rescue their trapped forces! While over the harbour, show the British that they will not be able to protect themselves from our might!
"objective_string"=During the late afternoon of 24 May, Spitfires of 54 Sqn ran into Bf-109s of I/JG 51 above Calais. During the engagement, the Spitfires claimed four Bf-109s, but only two of these were actually lost. Two Spitfires were lost; one piane was shot down above the harbour, whilst the other was lost while being distracted with strafing trucks in the area. There were also four Bf-109s of JG 27 who were shot down in the same area, although the time this occurred is not clear. For brevity's sake, this has been included in the mission.
"intelligence_string"=Once airborne, you'll climb up to 4,000m and hold a westerly heading to reach Calais. Spitfires have been seen over the area, and if you run into enemy fighters, engage 'em. The area surrounding Calais is busy, and with the harbor now isolated, columns heading for Dunkirk are passing just to the south of Calais. If enemy fighters attempt to strafe our vehicles, draw them off, and then take them down. After the skies are clear, return to Melsbroeck to refuel and reload.

    Good afternoon,

Here is the airfield at Guise, also in Northeastern France. This airfield, along with Charleville, were major Jagdgeschwader airfields for Bf-109s as the Luftwaffe began to establish themselves on French soil, before moving on to airfields near Cambrai and Reims.
