I have tried for several days and it says they are down for maintenance...

I don't make any business with them. I bought a pack of repaints for the PMDG MD11 and never received the registration number for the activation. Of course I contacted them many times before requesting a refund via Paypal. To bad their customers service is so awful, they do a great job with spendid repaints!

I thought they called it a day a few years back when they had an internal fight and split....

I knew the store was up and running just after the split but didnt release it was still running this long

Dave/Dax sweetman has gone solo and does a lot of work for Justflight release packages and some other devs

It's true, McPhat e-shop doesn't work, I don't know the reason, but you can find and buy their items in feelthere e-shop.
