    Eastern Front Question ?

Just got back into CFS2 because of the new BoB expansion and loving it. Want to know is there scenery ,missions for the Eastern Front. Don't know if anything has been done for CFS2. Saw where there are a fair number of Russian aircraft available so i was just wondering.Regards,Scott

Thanks for the heads-up on the Eastern Front. Spend a lot of my time on Il-2 '46 installs because i find the Great Patriotic War very interesting. The Yak-3 is my favorite WWII prop fighter. Have a few aircraft for CFS3 but there are a good amount for CFS2. Will get these files downloaded and installed.

I set up a new, separate install for my Eastern Front. I haven't been it it for a while. Love that IL tank buster.

    Sixstrings,

There's a lot of stuff for the Eastern Front.......but the Fall Weiss and Poland auto-installers are really the only thing on the Eastern Front I would qualify as "modern."

    The issues are numerous....

First, Rhumbaflappy's new watermasks completely swamped the coastlines and inundated a lot of airfields, especially in Finland. That also basically puts most of the harbors under water as well.

Second, I have a whole pack of scenery, landclass, waterclass, and objects that Tobob did before he "retired" from simming that include the deletion of objects from Sander's Finnish airfields as well as their relocation, but they're blank, meaning that they would all have to be redone by placing objects on each base, and they're all shaped somewhat differently. That's a massive project in and of itself.

There are also specific objects for Leningrad. It's always been on my "to do" list to get around to building Leningrad in GSL, but other projects always seem to end up on top of it.

Third, I would be compelled because of my own insane expectations to make all the harbors into GSL, something that's a daunting project by itself, not to mention time-consuming.

Fourth, The majority of scenery work would basically be there. Further south, Moscow and Odessa would need to be updated to bring them in line with my current standards, but once you leave the bulk of GSL building behind in Leningrad and Finland, it gets a little easier.

Fifth, As far as the missions are concerned, I really learned how to write missions on the Eastern Front, but I think the last time I worked on them (other than Poland) was at least five years ago. Given how I write missions now verses then, I'm sure I would be looking at them, slamming my head into my table, wondering what the hell I was thinking.

Lastly, I have enough "big" projects on my plate at the moment, from the Battle of France (which is my primary focus at this point) to French and Vichy French missions in the Mediterranean, which includes the Torch Landings, the USAAF attack on Rome led by Doolittle, and British carrier operations off Salerno. (The French West Carrier Operations package was only a small part of this wider Mediterranean project)

If this were several years ago, there would be several people who have the skills and capacity to jump in and help. What we need now, is people who are willing to learn how to do these things. As it stands now, we have several mission builders (Myself, Shadow Wolf 07, Skylane, Captain Kurt, Dasuto247, Allen, Devildog73) but not a lot of people who do scenery projects.

If anyone wants to take on the task of lending a hand with some of this, they are welcome to. I learned how by doing; experience teaches you a lot of things.

Sixstrings - I've thought in the past about doing a dual-sided campaign based on the Corpo Aeroe Spedizione, just for something different to do, but with four kids, a medical condition, and a limited amount of spare time, I focus on what I find most interesting and enjoyable.

However, that being said, if you're looking for one of the best campaigns ever written for CFS2, look no further than Ajax's Normandie-Niemen campaign: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...tid=44&id=2846

Thanks Rami. Think i'll stick to Il-2 '46 for my Russian fix. It's another sim that has progressed beyond belief over the years. Even more than the CFS series. A new install i have, called BAT, has over 500 aircraft from every era, tons of maps, objects and much more.Still into CFS3 and just getting back into CFS2-(for the BoB install) and having to relearn it.

    Sixstrings,

May I suggest the Mediterranean or the Balkans? Those babies are nearly all auto-installers. If you love the Battle of Britain, I guarantee you'll like The Balkans.
