    Misty Flight - MV F-100D

If anyone is interested, this is video from the first half of a mission out of Thailand into Laos playing Misty flight. It's quite raw and the audio is 3 yahoo's having and good time. I've spared you most of the bad jokes. If you haven't had the inclination to pick up the Milviz super saber then hopefully this puts the impetus in your action! It's a great jet and loads of fun! We flew this a few nights ago and had a blast! Thanks to Chris and Jon for letting me fly with them. Don't mind all my mistakes. As a point of interest for questions were using project Vietnam scenery and running CCP. I'm using REX and AS16 for wx. I'm also running PTA lighting mod for P3Dv3.4

Wow! Nice flying on the air refueling. I know how hard that is. Really enjoyed part 1 guys. Thanks for sharing
Your English is better than my French, German, Italian, Spanish.... so no worries my friends!

That is fantastic, nice formation flying!

Thanks guys! There will be 3 parts...I ran shadow play for the majority of the mission...so I've got 16 gig of raw footage to sift through and edit minimally.

Chris and Jon are fantastic in formation. I just try to keep up! We usually have 2 more guys Toby and Lee for missions like this and I also belong to the CVW-8 air wing which has another 12 or so guys.

Toby and Chris have taught me everything I know about USAF flying and formation work. Jon (Misty32) has been a huge help recently in helping to identify ways to finesse formation and get in and stay in close. Which is what I'm working on now. I was purposefully a little further back to try and capture some good footage of 31 and 32 and took the pressure of me to have to think about flying really close and try and take acceptable video that would be fun to watch to some degree.

Thanks so Brian without your long hours we wouldn't even have the jet to begin with!

Very cool video and flying !
"CIA handlers" tend to appear in the most critical moments... Most eye kandy
moment in video for me was the breaking formation to attack on targets...

On a side note, an FSX@War Vietnam - Laos destructible targets theater and a
Laos 8 x CCP missions campaign is under beta testing currently with ETA release
less than a couple of months...

Now that was really 'Snazzy' .. you guys are going to need a couple these You almost a slow FAC aircraft to mark the targets for ya .... mention of the F-105, that won't be a hesitation getting that one , Great vid Rick!

Thanks for recording, editing, and uploading these Rick; always a pleasure flying with you. Looking forward to the upcoming CCP campaign -- if you need beta-testers...... I'm sure Jon, Rick, and I would love to attack it. CCP seems to be the way to go instead of FSX@WAR when it comes to multiplayer.

A big problem we've identified is finding the targets when players have different add-on land-class (orbx vs stock). Guys can get to the general target area by flying to a radial/dme fix, but then the hard part begins. Even with the same scenery, it is pretty hard for the fighters to see the target from their stack at 18k feet; with different scenery a talk-on becomes very difficult. We have two solutions to this: A few sorties ago, I flew this same mission with these guys, but acted as a FAC in Ant's T-28D with Tacpack. Giving them a talk-on, then marking the target with smoke as they rolled-in helped a lot, but the T-28 is not very multi-player friendly (causes low frames for other users), and we had FSX@WAR issues (also low-frame rates). We also don't always have a pilot to dedicate to the FAC mission, so a CCP smoke effect can be placed in the target area. Anyone else have ideas on how to find targets and share the information? I've been toying with the idea of using 1:50,000 maps of the region and 1km MGRS grids -- might be a little too intense for the sim.

I really love the T-28 from Ant, but the low-frames in multiplayer (which is seems to cause for other players) makes it a no-go for now. I'm considering downloading a freeware, or buying, an O-1 or O-2 for the FAC mission, and adding some Tacpack rockets. It is very satisfying to see these F-100s roll in to where they think the target is, then lay down a smoke mark, and give them an offset, or "hit my smoke," then give them a clearance once they call tally on the target. Does anyone have a recommendation for an addon O-1 or O-2?

The Milviz F-100 is great because everything in it works, and it doesn't hurt our frames in multiplayer; it is a beautiful formation machine, and just feels right. The capability to employ it on a sortie like this is just icing on the cake. Milviz collaborated with a few F-100 drivers to develop the model, and I think what came out is very satisfactory. My father did not help in the development, but he has 2,000 hours in F-100s, and he tells me that the Milviz jet feels very real to him. Recently we've been flying multiplayer sorties over SEA, as well as formation aerobatics (he was on the aerobatic team in the 1950s) -- it is pretty neat to see an 84 year old fighter jock back in the virtual skies and having a ball.

We are looking forward to more cold-war era jets that served in SEA. I think a lot of people would like to see a tacpacked version of Piglet's A-1 Skyraider as well. I haven't been able to get the A-1 to work in P3D though (highly reflective textures in the VC).

Thanks for all the nice comments on this video. The guys who have commented here are people I've really looked up to in this hobby over the last 10 years -- guys who have made this hobby a beautiful and comfortable place to fly.

    Cheers,

    Chris

That is the part I really like .. one can really confirm how dynamic these aircraft model are, .. the old "OH I WISH" , course everyone would like to jump in a really McCoy and go for a drive, but if a veteran can get the real feel .. hell's It the real deal , Well within its limits

second one is very nice too!
One thing I noticed: the paints you use show a completly bare metal rear of the fuselage, the way it comes with the Milviz textures. I have however never seen a pic of a F-100 in Vietnam with a bare rear end like that. They arrived in bare metal, were overpainted, and then the paint burnt off where it became too hot. So I have tried to make a bit more realistic SEA paint for the hun:

    what do you think?

Chris' Dad was a Skyblazers pilot. His authentic helmet is what my Skyblazers repaint is based on. His Dad flew.the previous mission where Chris was acting as FAC. He is rock solid in aerobatics and formation in the Hun. Milviz rendition is very accurate.

    @jankees

Yes we were using stock paints as we didn't know who had what paint installed aftermarket. Yours looks great. I did a burned paint scheme for the RDAF and it was the most complex I've done. Congrats on yours. It looks suoerb!

That would be graciously welcomed! If it's not too much trouble...a 4th would cover 2x 2-ships.

Wow, thanks for the offer Jankees! I will consult with my squad. Early or late is ok with me. I wouldn't mind using the large letters of 1970's. I'll ask Toby to respond here with his preference and we can go with that. His Dad was also a Hun pilot which we've flown with. It's a real honor the have flown virtually with 2 former Hun drivers.
