    Off Topic - CBI Mesh

I've been seraching through the library but have had no luck in finding a package for CBI Mesh by Mark Shimmer (sorry if I botched your name). Anybody know where I can find it?

yep, that's the original post but where a link for the scenery? Or does this mesh belong to a different package?

Oh boy, I have forgotten all about that one.
The scenery has not been released as so far, because of the mesh. I developed it with my own mesh, but then FreemeshX came out. It is as good as mine, but slightly different in places and I would have to rework a lot, expecially Kunming. I must admit that I lost sight of it in the meanwhile.

    Cheers,

Thanks for bringing me up to date Mark! Much appreciated, as is all the great work you've done on your different scenery packages...kudos to you.

    Thanks for the kudos, Mal.

I just checked where the CBI scenery is at and found it could be released after the elevation and mesh changes. It has only three or four airfields but very detailed and historically as correct as possible.

    Some images are here:

If there is interest I could bring it forth, but it will be on the back burner a while because of other priorities.

Excellent work! I love the CBIx and I have it in P3D V3.4, although I had to get the taxiways to show. This looks like a excellent scenery package and I would be very interested in getting/testing it.

Great work Mark! I would love to see this project come to fruition. All of a sudden I got bit by the "flying the hump" bug. Took one look at the mesh and switched to Ft. Lauderdale. Sad commentary on the default mesh in both FSX and FSX-SE. I took a look at the FreemeshX website but have had no luck opening those packages, 7zip or something or other. Can't seem to make it work.

I hear you on that, Mal. Flying the CBI is really fun and challenging, expecially under adverse weather conditions with a good weather generator and at night. The new C-47 adds to the immersion. I hope a nice C-46 or C-54 will come out one day, come to speak of it. Oh, and the airfields have NDBs at the historically correct locations and you can intercept and use them for approach patterns like back in the days.

The FreemeshX works great for the area, in fact all of Asia. It makes a huge difference. What also makes a big difference when flying in Asia is the SceneryTech Asia Landclass together with FTX Base / Global. In fact it makes an immense difference, in my opinion. The default version is plain awful.

The 7z compression format is for 7Zip, as you said, and you can decompress the mesh archive with it. I would install the mesh!

So I'll put the CBI back in the queue - maybe I can slice some work in it now and then. Thanks for the reminder :-)

    Cheers,

Excellent news but understand well the priorities. I am currently doing the HUMP via the CBIX package and I am very impressed even at this stage it lends a degree of authenticity to the whole sim experience. I started the HUMP using the C-47 but as usual decided to do a mix of aircraft, the C-46 and C-54 (aka DC-4) which then led to a lot of down time as I redid the cockpits of both in terms of gauges etc to get them in line with the real thing. The C-46 is finished (using the great FSX model available) and the C-54 is a work in progress. I have reworked the data files here and there to get a more realistic performance and so far so good all in the interests of getting that experience as close to reality as is possible because the HUMP is a real challenge. I was also working on a package of flying boat bases for the Pacific region and like wise that is parked due to other priorities.

One thing is for certain, given the variety of airfields and locations there is a lot of flying that can be done so my HUMP posting may be on for quite a while.

Thanks for the work done, it is appreciated and if the scenery is finished it will be the icing on the cake.

The A2A or AH B-17 also fits nice in that scenario (they mostly were flying weather recce missions) and Virtavia's superb cargo version of the B-24!
