MAIW releases RAF Lakenheath and Upper Heyford

Ian McCartney and company created awesome new FSX/P3D scenery for RAF Lakenheath and Upper Heyford. While still an ACG project, RAF Lakenheath was put on hold because of possible legal issues with the MoD, great to see it got published now (downloads are available for MAIW members).

Now THAT is some beautiful scenery work. They even included the Lakenheath golf course... with sand traps!

It gets better the closer you look. Try it in a microlight.

Question for you experts: if one wanted a slightly more nostalgic Lakenheath AI, when were the F-111's there and what immediately preceded the F-15's? Presumably camo USAF F-4E's?
Striker, listen, and you listen close: flying a plane is no different than riding a bicycle, just a lot harder to put baseball cards in the spokes.

Well, my parents live about 5 miles from the base... They get regular flybys of F15s, Ospreys and whatever else is buzzing the airspace. I remember the F15s took over from the F-111s straight away. I cannot remember seeing anything else between the F111s leaving and the F15s arriving... The F111s were all gone by the end of 1992. The RAF Lakenheath wikipedia page has loads more information additionally and is a good read on the history of the base and deployments.

Also on Avsim are the retro paints for the AI F-111s and F-4s. Parking spots might need to be adjusted for the other models.
