    Icon22 Needed another aircraft...

    ....our freight business picked up a few more clients so we needed another airplane. Of course I simply went back to see Willy and the good ole boys at Merc Air.
    I'm not sure how legit the paper work is on this one but, hey it flies.

    So far I've found a grand total of 2 photos of this one...of the appropriate vintage. So much of it has to be 'inferred'...and the '50th Anniversary' font on the right side will have to be hand drawn....none of my 2188 fonts is even close....

    Still....this side is almost done...

    Pretty sure there'd be a AEQ over the pilot's window....just need to bend it right..

    sure looks nice!

    I started playing the metal with Gordon's new paintkit as well:

    not there yet, but you get the general idea..
    You can find most of my repaints for FSX/P3D in the library here on the outhouse.
    For MFS paints go to flightsim.to

    Jan, Christoph and Gordon-

    I just can't get enough of the all metal look. There are so many talented painters doing work on our beloved -3/47. We are indeed fortunate!

    Chris-

    Have a peek in the .air file- there under contact points (after all the liveries and cameras) there are TWO almost identical lines with the second line commented out (//). Only ONE value is different. Just comment out the first, remove the // from the second and you are done!

    I'm away from my sim atm, so if you get stuck I will put the specific lines in here tomorrow.

    Looking forward to that one Steve. I just uploaded 4 paints for the NACA, Patuxent, SNAFU and Varig.
    They should be ready for D/L once Rami approves them.

    The area of the aircraft.cfg file the relates to the steering is about 3/4th of the way down and looks like this:

    [contact_points]
    //0 Class <0=none,1=wheel, 2=scrape, 3=float>
    //1 Longitudinal Position (feet)
    //2 Lateral Position (feet)
    //3 Vertical Position (feet)
    //4 Impact Damage Threshold (Feet Per Minute)
    //5 Brake Map (0=None, 1=Left, 2=Right)
    //6 Wheel Radius (feet)
    //7 Steer Angle (degrees)
    //8 Static Compression (feet) (0 if rigid)
    //9 Max/Static Compression Ratio
    //10 Damping Ratio (0=Undamped, 1=Critically damped)
    //11 Extension Time (seconds)
    //12 Retraction Time (seconds)
    //13 Sound Type
    //14 Airspeed limit for retraction (KIAS)
    //15 Airspeed that gear gets damage at (KIAS)

    point.0=1, -55.75, 0.0, -2.875, 1600.0, 0, 0.93, 180.0, 0.44, 2.00, 0.6, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0
    //point.0=1, -55.75, 0.0, -2.875, 1600.0, 0, 0.93, 72.0, 0.44, 2.00, 0.6, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0
    point.1=1, -18.50, -9.12, -9.95, 1600.0, 1, 1.89, 0.0, 0.52, 1.33, 0.50, 8.0, 11.0, 2.0, 166.0, 166.0
    point.2=1, -18.50, 9.12, -9.95, 1600.0, 2, 1.89, 0.0, 0.52, 1.33, 0.50, 7.5, 16.0, 3.0, 166.0, 166.0

    The lines in question above are in Italics. All you need to do is change them from as they are to as follows:

    //point.0=1, -55.75, 0.0, -2.875, 1600.0, 0, 0.93, 180.0, 0.44, 2.00, 0.6, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0
    point.0=1, -55.75, 0.0, -2.875, 1600.0, 0, 0.93, 72.0, 0.44, 2.00, 0.6, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0

    All I have done is added the "//" from where it starts "point.0=1...." and removed the "//" from where it says "point.0=1.....".

    In any configuration file adding the "//" makes it not to be read by the program...while removing "//" makes the line be read by the program.

    Hope that helps.

    Cheers,
    Huub
    I just opened the SOH home page for the first time today, and my heard skipped a beat when I saw this (at least I hope it was only one beat).

    It brings back memories that literally brought tears to me eyes. I watched this graceful lady fly so low over our house that we could actually see the markings clearly.
    I was only a little kid standing outside our house with my father as the engine sounds gave me "kippevel" (goose bumps).

    A few years later we went to an airshow and this same bird made it's appearance. It was my first experience stepping in to an actual D-3.
    Pictures taken that day were lost in a house fire several years later, so all I have left are my memories.

    Okay I am off to take a flight to memory lane, just can't wait

    Huub,

    I can not thank you enough for making this livery available.
    One day without laughter, is one day without living.
    One day without Flight Simming, is one day lost living.

    If Everts Air Cargo Had DC-3's....

    ....what would they look like?
    I know most of you here are real world livery aficionado's but I couldn't resist a little playful messing around in the paint kit and came up with this one.

    Left side is 'done' other than tiny bits.....the correct model won't have the whiskers...but ideally wouldn't have that vent slicing through the roo's legs....but then it's actually more 'DC-3' than 'C-47' by this vintage.
    Right side will be a pain....and there's one graphic I have no idea what it is...
