Thread: F7F Tigercat New VC for FSX & P3D

The original cockpit frame on page one of the thread could be made into a first class Dilbert Dunker!
Egad, how I hated that thing!
I've never held my breath longer. I almost reached for the safety diver, but you know how young Marines are. We're indestructable, and no way my pride would let me reach for help. Until I had drowned, anyway
I made it but I was getting pretty desperate for air when I popped up-n-out. I was sure glad I was a trained scuba diver. Helped me keep my head underwater.
Pensacola. All contained in a BIG pool. Fun fun fun.
I got to take the dunk because an old-time friend of my father was OIC Survival Training School. I took some leave, and he ran me through almost all of it. Including SEER School. Amazing how many bugs you find to eat in the swamps around Pensacola...

    Sorry, memories...

Is this project still alive? I was kinda looking forward to this one. It was looking so great!

    Paul:

As I remember you did some of the original VC upgrades to this great bird. Always one of my favorite fliers! When one of the prototypes was turned over to the navy test pilot for a wring out, after the flight the Navy pilot gave Corky Meyers a long tirade about this and that, then broke into a smile and said "Best damn fighter I've ever flown".

    Cheers: Tom

    Hey Tom,

Yep, I did the "panel art", such as it was, and cobbled together some gauges from some of Milton's other projects, and glued them all into what Milton always said was a temporary VC, which would suffice until he got around to building a proper one. Between Milton's 3D modeling, your flight modeling, and the recent external texture upgrades, I would echo Mr. Meyers with the ship as she stands today. But this project was looking especially nice, and I'd hate to see it die just as it seemed about to be ready for release.

I didn't update this thread when my data was destroyed, so I'll do that now. About a year ago all of my data was destroyed by an errant Windows OS download. The loss added up to about 10 years or 52,000 man hours of dedicated work. Among the files lost permanently were 353 3D Studio files which represented the entirety of my modeling library. The loss of my Gmax library is another conversation. Most of those files were aircraft or scenery in development containing many thousands of hours of poly bending, animation and coding. Included among those files were the F7F Tigercat interior and exterior files. As those files were a complete loss along with most of the Photoshop art developed around the original UVW mapping, it became necessary for me to re-build that project along with a decade of work from scratch.

That being said, the new F7F interior and exterior are well along in the process and nearing beta level.

I apologize if things look like a never ending story, but most folks would simply hang up their spurs and head for the local tavern in a case such as this. Re-building my archive is a agonizingly tedious and slow process. Each model requires its own archive of support data that needs to be re-constructed meticulously. That's what I have been doing for the last year. Only nine more to go.

The Tigerkitty will be updated as soon as I have a viable model to replace the lost work.

    Hello ********

About the planes that you rebuilt after your PC crash, what happens to the A-26 / B-26 which seemed very close to liberation, in view of the videos you have broadcast? Do you want to broadcast it?

The A-26 and B-26 are rebuilt, along with a few others. I prioritized the modeling I wanted to recover and tried to organize the work flow that I felt most efficient. The videos you have seen are of the models in their current state of development. The Invaders have a number of different VC configurations, so that modeling and coding are more time consuming. The Tigercat is another example of five different configurations, requiring dedicated modeling for each. It's a process, but coming along better than I had first expected.

    Thanks Yo Yo.

The projects are moving forward better than I had anticipated. With me, if the work is not the best I can make it, I won't do it. The new models are even better than the ones that were lost.
