Vertical Sim Studios have decent freeware XP sceneries for many U.S. States (VStates).

X-Plane does take some getting used to, as compared to FSX. At first, I found it to be a bit alien but after several months in, pretty much use X-Plane full time.

I have it and it's awesome! I've used their products on FSX, glad that Orbx is releasing scenery for X Plane.
