Wow Good Job AJ-2 Savage!!!!
Link to www of Virtavia: http://www.virtavia.com/gallery_AJ2B.html .
Looks like a really interesting aircraft, especially the green house canopy!
Tommy
This one is a lot of fun. Unique and lots of animations. Three different models: bomber, tanker and recon.
I think they did a great job of integrating the jet engine - sounds and noticeable change in thrust and pitch when engaged. I've had several flights starting with radials only, then igniting the jet engine in flight.
Interesting plane! Great that Virtavia is doing a lesser known plane! It could however do with a new paintjob to get rid of the clean look! Flies like a swan.

Agreed. Needs some dirtying up. The paintkit is available here: http://www.virtavia.com/Freeware/ind...=/Paint%20Kits

I've got to figure out a better launch assistance entry. The plane comes loose before the throttle is spooled up.
Cees
I noticed the launch issue just as we were releasing it, but it was too late to get the change incorporated.
Try using these numbers to see if the cat holds. They need to be just in the right spot especially if the carrier is moving.
[launch_assistance]
launch_bar_pivot = 9.8, 0, -4.5
launch_bar_lug = 12.6, 0, -7.6
BTW,
Here's a little secret. I enabled water injection. It will add a little boost to horse power and airspeed.
All you have to do to get it to work is assign a couple of key strokes under Settings - Controls / Buttons - Keys / Engines / War Emergency Power. I have been using W+E. You can assign any keys of your choosing.
Comments please! This is a great plane to repaint.

Ps. I'd like to present bigger pictures but there's something with Photobucket..
Allright gentlemen, who is willing to test this one and comment on it?

Thanks, Cees. Nice job. Works for me. Something a little scruffy and worn.
Thanks WH! Here's another one.

And a picture I couldn't post earlier.....

Here's a texture that came with the package. I made it more dirty, added the yellow warning arrow and made the spinners less red. The paintkit is a joy to work with!

Great looking paints. Keep up the good work. I was thinking about this model because it's so different, but it looks a little FS9'ish. Maybe wait for a sale sometime.
Nice work Cees.....I have always believed that it is the repaints that really help sell a product in the long run.
Tommy
Nice work on the paints!
Dvj; No other developer which makes these forgotten military aircraft for FS, so it might be a smart move to support them with buying it at normal price if we want to see more. I know it is a small economical margin on these aircraft as the money in the FS world are with the liners, GA and some of the more famous fighters.
As Razbam has not done anything FSX wise with their Skyraiders, I would love to see Virtavia take on the AD/A-1 family. That one could be a smart financial move as well..
I've been trying to get the spinners repainted in red and white in four parts. But the spinners mapping is making this impossible: the upper halve is a copy of the lower half. Alas!

Cees
Assuming it is mirrored top and bottom, shouldn't something like the attached spinner texture give you a spinner with four quadrants? (I don't have this aircraft, or I would try it to be sure, but if you just drop this over the spinner area in AJ-2_01.psd, it might work, possibly with tweaking.) (Or it might not work at all - you have done these before and likely have had to work with lots of interesting design choices before, so you may have fiddled with something like this already.)
Well I'll be.........:dizzy:

AckAck thanks!
:untroubled:

Just a beta, the spinner needs some work still
Cees
I should be doing something else, but......

I'll bring it out as a package of six repaints, including one original made more dirty looking. Give me a little week.

Is the turbojet engine required at all times, or only during heavy load and or high speed conditions?
Tommy
Not at all! It flies perfect without it. I switch it off before landing on a carrier. Not a good idea to fry the hook, I think! :biggrin-new: Very amusing is the fact that one can move the arm rest out of the way to switch the engine off. It is very easy to put her on a deck btw.

Yes, they only used the J33 jet engine for takeoff and high speed dash over a target area. The interesting part is that both the J33 engine and the two PW R2800 Radial engines used the same grade of AVGAS to simplify to fuel system. The R2800 engines are powerful, robust, and combat proven (used on the F6F Hellcat, F4U Corsair, P-47, A-26, F7F, F8F, C-46, and a number of other aircraft) and I have no doubt those engines alone could easily maintain a high cruise speed without jet augmentation. Regarding the use of AVGAS with the J33 jet engine, I do have experience with that as I used to service a privately owned T-33A. The owner/pilot used to have me add about 50-60% Jet-A fuel and then the rest was AVGAS. He said it actually helped the J33 run at cooler temps without causing any issues (lower TBO time, etc).
From all that I've ever read about the Savage, it was a noted as being a dream to fly and quite fast but it had it's share of significant to serious reliability issues. Those issues were caused by the speed in which it was rushed into production and into Fleet service. They eventually got it debugged and into a fine aircraft but by then, the A3 Skywarrior simply outclassed it.
This model looks great and is certainly on my buy list in the coming months.
OT..
Happy birthday Cees. Hope you have a great day;)

Frank,
What do you think of this one? Backup the original first!

Terrific paints! Thank you. Glad to see you guys enjoying our latest endeavor. More interesting types to come. One in particular, many of you are going to love.
Although the AJ2 isn't on my radar these paints are looking real good! Nice work Cees. :encouragement:
Thanks Steve! Here's another one....
Please guys, if you see anything that is not correct in the repaint, let me know?
http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a3...Donker/ZH4.png
Cees
Yep, that's it. I removed the blue background on my own during testing as soon as the paint kit
was released so some different ones than what were included would be a nice change.
I like the weathering as well. Might have to ask you for those layers. :encouragement:
:ernaehrung004:
I love the repaints you guys are doing. I'll definitely be adding them to my Savage once they're released. Thanks. :)
I too picked up my copy over at FS Pilot Shop earlier this evening. I'm impressed with the overall workmanship of the model and the piston/jet engine integration (throttles and sound). MAL, I know you pushed for a Savage model for a long time. Glad to see it come to fruition in this nicely done model.
