I'll chime in... Somebody has to bring up the Gas Man.
He went to the same high school I did (earlier than me) and later was principal at the Jr high I went to for a couple classes. As a kid I met him - on good terms...:-)

He was the first to exceed 200mph at Indy in 1977.:-)
His brother was Indy 500 rookie of the year in 1977 as well.
