DESCRIPTION:
The airfields represent active aerodromes in use by both contestants in the first year and a half of the war. During most of the war, Spain was divided down the middle with the fascists mostly to the west and the nationalist mainly to the east. Although the nationalist controlled most of the north, the republicans controlled the coastal areas along the Bay of Biscay from Oviedo in the west to San Sabastian in the east. You now have three republican airfields along this strip of the coast: Gijon, Bilbao and Penagos. Just to the south of the republican controlled area, you have the nationalist airfields of Leon and Burgos.
These airfields supported constant activity from mid 1936 until the nationalist victory in the north in October of 1937. Much was learned of modern aerial combat by the combatants flying out of these airfields and they saw biplane warplanes surrender their superiority to the latest modern stressed skin mono-planes in hard fought duels in the sky.
This is the first installment in a series of airfields for Dave Brauneis Spanish Civil War Project.
Included are 5 airfields in Northern Spain. They are Bilbao, Penagos, Leon, Burgos and Gijon. The airfields are meant to fit both the stock and custom mesh made by Kghhd and posted at Flightsim.com:

We hope that you enjoy these airfields and can use them to benefit your CFS 2 experience and we also hope that they will provide the stimulus for some good missions and a campaign or two.
