Hey guys, I'm having an unusual problem, and need some help. In Tobob's LaRochelle scenery, there is a scenery object called "tb_warf." When I'm using this object at Bordeaux, because space is tight, it is not generating a .cdp file when I try to fly a mission to check its placement. Because no .cdp file is generated, the mission will not load. If I remove that piece, the scenery loads fine. This is the scenery package: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?action=jump&catid=45&id=4071 Does anyone know what the problem is, and/or how to fix it? :isadizzy:

Discus, We have a winner! :salute: I actually had to place the U-boat pen just across the harbor from its actual location...because the amount of land available was not enough to place the U-boat pen correctly. I also used the other space to built a pretty large port...on the scale of Southampton. Luckily, almost the entire area was flat, so it made building relatively easy. Also on the slate are Bordeaux, and St. Nazaire.

Hi TW, you are right. Brian painted a big collection of non-trop AH's Bf109E-4 in desert camo and only two skins for the still very nice, specifically built for North African theatre, Bf109E-7 Trop by Mauro Giacomazzi. I long ago pushed for a preservation drive to upload all of Mauro Giacomazzi's production here at SOH but, evidently, all of Mauro's models and repaints were lost in both HDD crash and hacker attacks. It's high time to re-upload again Mauro's models for preservation, there's no need to ask for any permission as Mauro declared his models freeware public domain a long time ago already. The British aircraft section has only Mauro's Hurricane MkIIB and MkIID Trop, while Mauro's MkIIC, MkIIC Trop, MkIA Catapult and Sea Hurricane MkI are missing, while the MkIA and the Sea Hurricane MkIIC are available as AvHistory's rebuilds in the 1% library section.

A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Aircraft - British Description: Update of Bismarck13's Bristol Bombay I took Bismarck13's (William Dickens) Bombay and simply did some refining to it. I created new skins with panel lines..basic servicable panel lines, nothing super sharp or detailed...just enough to give the plane some character. I revamped the DP file, using the Ground Crew British Weapons pack. There are 4 skins in this pack. The first is just a revamp of the original desert scheme that came with the plane. The second is a desert scheme Air Ambulance. Third is a Cargo variant in overall RAF Dark Green. Lastly is a Dark Green and Medium Sea Gray camo scheme...not accurate but looks nice. The Air Ambulance Skin: I attempted to recreate the Bombay in the markings of No1 Air Ambulance Unit, RAAF, based on an image sent to me by Hewman. Unfortunately, I was not able to do so in a manner that satisfied me. The Red Cross insignia on the sides of the fuselage should have No 1 Air Ambulance Unit RAAF in a semi-circle on the top half of the insignia...I was not able to produce that lettering in a curve with any of the software I have...or at least not with results that were good enough to use..they tended to be blurry and uneven. Secondly, the real RAAF Air Ambulance had the Red Cross insignia wrapped across the bottom of the fuselage..again, the results from many attempts to achieve this were less than stellar..very blurred, very streaky. So, I opted to include my first rendition of an Air Ambulance....it may not be totally accurate, but it looks good. And I think most simmers would rather have a good looking plane that is not quite on par with history than to have a historical skin that looks like crap. ________________________ A great big thank you to Bismarck for creating this fine aircraft. While it is not a super significant aircraft in terms of usage during WW2, it is a nice addition to the CFS2 line up of avaiable aircraft. Bismarck has produced many many aircraft that fit in this mold...planes that history and most model makers have over looked. Thanks also to Peperez and Hewman for supplying info on the colors and markings used on the Bombay. Thanks to the folks at Ground Crew for making and sharing their incredible British weapons pack. Very nicely modeled bombs in that pack. ________________________ Please refer to the original read me file by Bismarck13 (William Dickens). This is his work, and his rules aplly above all others. For my part...these skins are free ware. Feel free to tweak them to your own liking. Heck, if you want I will be glad to share my paint template if you want to repaint the plane in a way of your choosing...just shoot me a PM with your e-mail address and I will send you the Photoshop 5.0 files (can be used in Paintshop Pro as well). _________________________ Use these files at your own risk. Any loss or damage that may arise from the use of these files is...

Yes, I think it was a beginning of the low-visibility concept, adopted also by the R.A.F. with the top wing roundels right before the war started and the change at the end of 1941 of fuselage, underwing roundels and fin flash with thinner yellow and white bands. Whilst I am in the midst of working on a few projects, my scattershot mind is starting another one, and I'm struggling to find good sources. I am looking for information on the 20th Fighter Group...the primary operators of the Lockheed P-38 Lightning in the ETO until July of 1944, when they switched to the P-51. 1) They were based at RAF Kings Cliffe. 2) They flew a long-range escort mission to Bordeaux, France at the end of 1943.

Hi Hurricane3! Another good suggestion is given by Cdr. Tom Blackburn in his WWII written account of VF-17 (thank you again, Jagd!) tours of duty. What I like a lot about this book is that Cdr. Blackburn talks about the training/break-in period a naval squadron must take in order to obtain carrier qualification even if its pilots are already experienced. Other WWII pilots wrote very little about their training period, if not at all. Coupled with the fact that "Jolly Rogers" pilots were breaking-in brand new F4U1 Corsairs, with all the teething problems early "birdcage" F4U1's had, the account is breathtaking. Despite that the Royal Navy later developed a curved, banked approach to the carrier stern, designed to overcome the pilot's built-in blindness of the Corsair long nose during the final approach, a landing tecnique subsequently adopted by the US Navy as well, all of VF-17 pilots obtained their car-qual with the birdcage Corsair, doing the standard US Navy straight approach based exclusively on LSO signals. It's truly remarkable and it speaks loudly about the pilotmanship those guys had.

Holy smokes, Shessi, you were faster than a greased lightning! :running: Thank you very much, my friend! One question regarding this He115 skin: since I never saw before Luftwaffe planes with wing insignias painted in a US style, meaning on just one wing top and underside, is this livery correct or must Luftwaffe crosses and letters be painted on both sides of each wing? OW: Absolutely right! Several of Payakan's models could become splendid CFS2 birds with only a few touches here and there. Perhaps Peperez could intercede for us, but he's been really busy lately.

A good day to everybody! I recently found over at Flightsim.com Payakan's vere nice Heinkel He115B floatplane for FS8/9 and I took the liberty to convert it to CFS2. The He115 was involved a lot in the 1940 Norwegian German campaign and it filled sea-patrol, anti-shipping and anti-submarine warfare duties over the North Sea until the B&W131 took over. The only other He115 available for CFS2 is a quite outdated model from Alphasim's oldies. Unfortunately, the conversion did not carry over propeller animation for the starboard engine, as you can see from the attached screenie. The control surfaces animations are ok, while there's no cockpit nor bomb bay door animation. I could live with the latter, but not with a spinning prop and a dead one. If anyone can correct this visual problem, I am attaching the converted mdl, while the flight model and dp derive directly from Alphasim's He115 with only very few mods to avoid the plane from dropping down in the water when spawned by Free Flight. Included are my updated propeller textures, plus the propeller blade texture I repainted in Luftwaffe-style solid black (the original has Allied-style yellow tipped prop blades). I hope to come up soon with a wake and splash floatplane effect for this plane.

You're welcome, Hurricane3! CFS2 has its own limitations, even if it's definitely the most "open end" simulator I ever saw. CFS3, for example, is very far from being as flexible. The overload patch goes up against a built-in limit that is probably due to the borderline imposed by Windows9 OS, total RAM that the OS was capable to handle at the time and hardware limits when CFS2 was first released. In spite of it all, it's amazing the foresight applied by MS programmers, because CFS2 can still be used to great satisfaction even if it must be run in a 32-bit window of a 64-bit environment. The 4Gb RAM patch was a great addon, that lent more enjoyable life to the senior sim. I could not but compare CFS2 with something else while I was watching, over this weekend, some DVDs published by "Volare" (Flying), an Italian aviation-dedicated monthly magazine. That 3-piece DVD collection features films produced by the History Channel: "Wildcats vs. Zeros", "Sabres vs. MiG15's" and "PhantomII's vs. MiG21's", respectively WWII, Korea and Vietnam dogfight accounts of those famous warbirds. Those movies rely heavily on computer animated parts to rebuild combat sequences from various viewing angles and, obvioulsy, the graphics are stunning. But, if you want my opinion, the sheer animation movements of the aircrafts leaves something to desire to my eyes, at times it simply does not look too natural in the way an aircraft would move in the air if we compare it to, for example, gun camera footage of actual air-to-air combats.

Hey, If you're referring to sc7500, I keep in contact with him on a regular basis. Without going into extreme detail, Bruce (sc7500) has some major health issues, and goes through what I can only describe as sheer hell to try and maintain a modicum of normalcy, despite his health issues. The treatments he is forced to endure have pretty substantial side effects, including partial blindness, fuzzy vision, and other issues. Until they get things right again, he's taking a break from CFS2 because he can't focus his eyes enough to do any .dp work. I lift him up in prayer frequently, believe me.

Mario, Here is the third mission description...I'm still working on the mission itself. "title_string"=Operation Mezzagosto - A greeting by Der spaten "summary_string"=Achtung, Meine Herren! After gaining intelligence on the fleet's location earlier in the day, we have decided to greet the massive Pedestal convoy with a combined raid of both level & torpedo bombers. Your target is the carrier HMS Indomitable. "objective_string"=Through the early evening of 11 August, 1942, the Pedestal convoy sustained the first significant air attacks of the battle by four successive waves of Axis bombers: thirty Junkers Ju-88s & six He-111 torpedo planes were just one attack. In this raid, no hits were scored on the vessels, and two of the Ju-88s were shot down. "intelligence_string"=The enemy convoy sighted yesterday is now within range of Sardinia. We're prepared to execute the first assault. Take your place in an Heinkel He-111 torpedo bomber and direct your torpedoes toward the enemy carriers. The Ju-88 bombers will attack the remainder of the enemy fleet. Und passen Sie auf sich auf! "player_aircraft_name_string"=Heinkel He-111h-6 "airfield_string"=Sardinia - Elmas

Mario, Here is the scoop for mission two... "title_string"=Operation Mezzagosto - Dreifinger reconnaissance "summary_string"=Kamerad, herhören! After being alerted by French reconnaissance that the enormous Pedestal convoy entered the Mediterranean, we gained intelligence from our own source as to where the Allied convoy should be. Your mission is to find and photograph them. Make sure that you take the pictures and get home without incident! "objective_string"=The Pedestal convoy was identified at about 0830 hours on 11 August, 1942 by a Ju-88 bomber on a reconnaissance mission. Once the Pedestal convoy was spotted, the Axis forces sat & waited for the convoy to get within range of their airbases, then raided it during an evening assault by bomb-laden Ju-88s and torpedo-carrying He-111s. "intelligence_string"=Once airborne, hold a west-southwesterly heading and climb up to a cruising height of 5,500 meters. The estimated convoy position is to the southwest of the Baleric islands. Once over the convoy, hold a steady course and speed as you photograph, but don't stray above 5,700 meters, or the photos will lack detail. Once this is completed, you may return to Sardina. Hals und Beinbruch! "player_aircraft_name_string"=Junkers Ju-88a-11 (Italy, 1941) "airfield_string"=Sardinia - Elmas

In English... I just wanted to let you know that I haven't forgotten about doing the Axis side to Pedestal. I can't say I will work on this project at breakneck speed, but Operation Mezzagosto is underway, and I am using the Pedestal missions as a base to "flip" them and turn them into Axis-themed missions. The first is a Vichy French reconnoitre of the convoy just after it enters the Mediterranean...I didn't want to give you something too difficult to start, you know?

Jinx, Sure, but in what context? Are you talking about in Mission Builder, or actual flight characteristics? If it's the latter, the quick and dirty way is to increase the thrust and engine scalars in the .cfg file above 1.0. Otherwise, it can be done by modifying data entries such as empty weight, manifold pressure, horsepower, compression ratio, cylinder displacement, and number of cylinders in the engine.

I also included a forested island with a lighthouse, and piers of varying sizes with warehouses, access ramps, and plenty of space for shipping, even for the biggest vessels. Now I have to do the support facilities, including warehouses and such, but we're getting there. Edit: Safari won't let me attach the pictures, but I'll include them when I return home.
