Hey Gordon I used to surf the California coast on my Bob Ford surfboard. I went to college in Southern California and then worked out of San Ramon, CA for 17 years with ADP. I miss those beautiful waves! Moved back to Texas. The biggest I saw in South Padre were about 3 feet high! LOL Ted

Fun?? What version of Gmax are you using Tom!?? :biggrin-new: Absolutely. Too many folks start off with big ideas of modelling their favourite aircraft and never get there. Start small and work up!

The free version of Max 4.2 is Gmax, .NET support is built into W7, DirectX 9.0c June 2010 is available from Microsoft and Managed DirectX is in the CFS3 downloads here at SOH, as is the CFS3 sdk. Start with something simple like a hangar or bridge, get it built and mapped with texture applied and you'll quickly gain an understanding of the processes involved. The really tedious and mind-bending bit is learning how to use Gmax but there's no getting around this, you have to wade through it to get there and there's no other route to a CFS3 model. Did I say it's lots of fun? It is!

Great skins Barry, not seen those before! Unfortunately I don't think that the 6 wheel Matador was around in 1940, unless someone can prove otherwise? Airfix show one in their RAF set but I'd like to see photographic proof.

Er, no. CFS3 runs on Windows only. I have heard of Windows being run on Apple hardware and FSX running on such a rig, but it's basically being used as a PC instead of a Mac so there are no security advantages that way.

The prop blast affects sound heard inside a warbird: you wouldn't think the Mosquito was Merlin-powered from the droning cockpit sounds in videos but there's no mistaking them from the ground. The whistling is at least partially from the engine supercharger and you hear it more after the aircraft passes. P-51s and Sea Furies are quite distinct in this regard - the Sea Fury has a terrific rumbling grumbling note on approach and a whining whistle as it flies past and away. Go see a warbird display if you haven't already! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=EnV_VzFrceU and for fun, here's a Messerschmitt 410 Hornisse being ground-run: the supercharger whistle is unmistakeable.

Gordon, all I can say is that you must be a very patient man to go into all that detail. The model is spectacular... Ted

I learned to navigate with fs9 and even though the charts don't work exactly with FSX and GPS it's pretty close. X-Plane too. X-plane professional is very expensive but it is a closer match to real world navigation. FSX A2A is more accurate if you want to learn how to care for an aircraft to keep it serviceable. I am so very impressed with the A2A GA aircraft and the T-6 Texan. You'll see what I mean and you must eat, sleep, and drink your manual to properly learn your aircraft. Ted

Yes insofar as they need setting up again from scratch. This involves positioning and aligning the hinge point, renaming it and possibly animating it depending on what animation it is. The flight control surfaces are coded in and rely on the xdp to control the movement relative to stick input. The worse thing with the CFS2/FS9 modelconverterX route is that in my experience the model parts are jumbled up. E.g the wing mesh will also contain the pilots head, part of the tailwheel and an aerial etc.! :dizzy:. This is straightforward to unravel but does take time. That time is offset by having a ready-mapped and textured model though.

If you can find a freeware cfs2/fs9 model with permissions to use it then the fm will work in cfs3 (pretty much). Nice project btw!
