Compression calculations can be tricky until you get used to it. It sounds like you need to raise the nose a bit. That means you need a stronger spring. First, remember that FS begins ALL calculations assuming a full load. Second, the actual contact point position is at the maximum extension. The next thing you need to know is how much travel that the landing gear actually has. So for argument's sake, let's say that the gear has a total travel of one foot. That means you max compression is 1. If you want the plane to sit on the runway with that gear point compressed six inches, that's half of the max, or 0.5 for the "Static Compression." The last step is to calculate the compression ratio. You can either divide 1/.5 or convert to inches and divide 12/6 - either way, 2.0 is your answer. For that same gear to get a stronger spring, you start with decreasing the static compression. Let's say that you want that gear point to sit with only two inches of compression. Since you're dealing in feet, 2 inches out of twelve is (2/12) is 0.17 feet. At this point, it's worth using inches for the ratio. So divide your max compression (12) by your static compression (2), so 12/2=6. FS will then use the static compression and the compression ratio and calculate the correct spring strength. Hopefully everything's as clear as mud now... BTW, which aircraft are you working on?

Check the placement of the rear contact point....sometimes they are set well behind the actual tail wheel....and will prevent the plane from having the angle it should have when resting on the ground. Tim

All of my planes have their sounds aliased to a dedicated sound pack folder that sets outside of any of my installs. All of my scenery and mesh files are also outside of any of my installs....nice clean folders set up so that all of my installs can be linked to them. Tim

No, I'm not one and that's what I'm looking for, lol. I'm trying to figure out why, out of about 26 F-16's attached to the 301st/457th, only 7 or 8 show up. Here's what I did: Installed the MAIW package (AFCAD and AI) that included NAS Ft Worth. This included F-16's, F-18's, C-130's, and C-40's. When I looked at the results, I saw that their AFCAD (I'm speaking now of the physical layout) runway, taxiways, parking ramps, even location of the tower were off by quite a bit. I scrapped the lot of it, but not before saving the parking properties for each of the aircraft so that I could go back and insert them exactly as they were. Currently the runway is connected to the taxiways and the ramp and parking spaces are connected to the taxiways. I have F-18's parking where they should although half of them show up despite the abundance of spots allocated to them. I have C-40's that park where they should except for the one that seems to want to park down with the big boys on the F-16 ramp and I have one row of F-16's, even though there are 26 AI including the two "D" models we have. I don't understand why the F-16's refuse to show on the other spots and why that one C-40 insists on parking with them even though the parking code is for the F-16's. Can anyone suggest anything that might give me something else to look at that might lead me in the right direction here? Thanks!

For those that haven't had the luck to see Carswell up close and you haven't already seen "Strategic Air Command" with Jimmy Stewert, rent it or download it. It will give you some great footage of Carswell from the air, the old WWII wood frame structures as well as absolutely wonderful footage of Peacemakers and Stratojets. You'll even get an idea of what a B-36 sounded like as it flew over and rattled windows for miles all around.

I liked working days because during the week, the test pilots would take a 16 up to run it through the acceptance and it was quite a show and it was right over the rwy so I always had a great view.

I was there for a couple of months for FTD back in 1985! Some buddies and I rented a car to look around Ft. Worth. We got lost heading back to base and ended up on the far side of the runway, so I got to see the Peacemaker that was parked there. I also remember seeing the delta-winged F-16 being put through its paces at one point. (Didn't General Dynamics share the runway?)

I used the wrong aircraft designation in the title and tried to change it to read CH-53 vice MH-53. I suggest that you make backup of aircraft.cfg file in case you want to restore to the original landing lights: light.13= 5, 20.79, 2.15, -4.08, Fx_shockwave_landing_light ; Landing light <<<< this one and next three were // out in original lights section. light.14= 5, 20.79, -2.15, -4.08, Fx_shockwave_landing_light ; Landing light light.15= 5, 18.55, 2.15, -4.88, Fx_shockwave_landing_light ; Landing light light.16= 5, 18.55, -2.15, -4.88, Fx_shockwave_landing_light ; Landing light

Thanks for the tip, it worked! I am enclosing the light section to show what I did to alleviate the issue. I wish that Virtavia aka Alphasim would QA check their work before putting a FOR SALE sign on it. I mean, with other commodities, you can tell BEFORE you purchase if it's got issues and decide to buy it or not. With software, I guess it's buy it on good faith and if its flawed; you hold your hat in hand and hope you can contact the DEV and tell 'em of issues and hope they are receptive to it all. At any rate, thank very much for your suggestion. Most helpful. Wish Virtavia would of stepped in and advised me, I know they read SOH and read my problem but Nooooooooo, it's kaa-ching....see 'ya!!!!! $$$$$$$$$$$$$ It's all 'bout the Benjamins!!!! They don't even advertise an email address, they use to when they were Alphasim. //Types: 1=beacon, 2=strobe, 3=navigation, 4=cockpit, 5=landing

They had no idea what they were even saying, which is pretty funny. Rgr Bussard Ramjet collectors. Now those would work. But you have to be going pretty darned fast, as you know...

Whilst I am in the midst of working on a few projects, my scattershot mind is starting another one, and I'm struggling to find good sources. I am looking for information on the 20th Fighter Group...the primary operators of the Lockheed P-38 Lightning in the ETO until July of 1944, when they switched to the P-51. 1) They were based at RAF Kings Cliffe. 2) They flew a long-range escort mission to Bordeaux, France at the end of 1943.

Big E did have hydraulic catapults throughout her service life. When she went through the 1943 overhaul in Bremerton she got new cats as shown on the Vertigo model, which BTW is the 1944-45 configuration she finished the war with. A real shame that Enterprise was not preserved rather than scrapped. How nice it would be to come aboard and visit the ready rooms or walk around the flight deck, you could feel the history. :USA-flag:

When I hit the "L" key, the co-plots light will come on, briefly then go out leaving only the pilots lights working. Is there some kind of fix for this or what? I closed out FSX and did a refire and chose the MH-53 only to have the same issues. Any one else experience this?

I keep a national weather radar site bookmarked to keep an eye on storms that might be heading my way ever since that last one. What rolls through NE Texas and Oklahoma usually ends up here within about 36 hours. Think I'll go check flashlights and stuff..... Anyone else who is east of that storm front best be prepared to hunker down.
