PRB, thx for posting that! What a surprise seeing the cover of "Up Periscope". That took me back to a long time ago in elementary school. I also remember getting a Dauntless model as a Xmas exchange gift that year. Yup, Scholastic Book Club, had forgotten that, too. :)

So sad, he was so creative. The many mods he made to his own Red Baron aircraft were so interesting to see, some looking like a cartoonish hopped-up 1950's American car. But he also made true to scale aircraft, such as this Harvard, although unfinished, I thought was outstanding. We miss you Taz ... Blue skies Gary.

We also fly online games everyday on sim-outhouse.net. If u have trouble joining in ip-games post a message and many will help you get everything sorted for online play. It all depends on the operating system you are running.

you are right, the 3.1a update requires the original cfs3.exe of 5 mb, the no disk version is around 4 mb and will not work with the update. if you just put the 5mb one in and run the update and then replace it again with the no disk all is well. pm me and i will help you

Welcome Kodiak, Seems to me that the 3.1 patch (4,274Kb) was for four engined a/c and the 3.1a (172Kb) was to fix gauges on the stock B-25 or B-26. Some DVD versions came already patched, I had heard. Why not try downloading a Lancaster, B-17 or B-24 to see if your version works? (or see if you can join a MP game as they are flown patched)

I have to gently disagree Baz. When FSX was launched, Moore's Law on computing speeds was assumed and ACES expected we'd be running 7 or 8GHz processors by now, whereas even the maddest overclockers don't quite get to that yet. Multi-core processing has taken over as the development area in CPUs now. If FSX wasn't meant to do as much as developers have got it to do then I wonder what the pages and pages of the SDK, published close to ten years ago, are documenting. Reams of A4 in my ringbinder list umpteen simulator variables; yet more pages on SimConnect; extraordinary flexibility to code conditions into animation and visibility systems and the scope of C++ coding and other black arts mean developers haven't yet exhausted the potential for development in FSX. The limits are the...

I use the Libraries feature in Win7 to organise a lot of my work, it's a big reason I wouldn't go back to XP now. Libraries are like shortcuts only they can pull together much more and the file system supports them even with creaky old software like Gmax since they're built in to the system dialogues where appropriate. Worth a looksee if you haven't yet.

In all versions of Windows, typing %appdata%\Microsoft\FSX in an address bar will take you there.

Never looked at it myself Paul, but on my version (2008) it seems to be something related to Autodesk Vault and the Asset Tracker. Help file should point you in the right direction.

The Berlin descriptions reminded me of a Polish political joke from the Soviet era: Where is the finest view in all Warsaw? From the Palace of Culture. Why from there? Because from there you cannot see the Palace of Culture. You probably had to be there, then... Good shots, Bjoern!

I'd go for Win 7 64-bit, but from experience would question the need for Ultimate unless you know why you need it.

Many of us learn this the hard way, but you're much better working in this order:- Build the model first ...Map the model second ......Animate the model LAST It's very tempting to animate the undercarriage and have it folding up and unfolding a treat, but if you have to adjust anything or reset scale or transforms in the process of mapping, you'll have to redo the animation all over. Patience!

(Sorry Rene, I've been a little thick fingered tonight) The Zuyax Spits have mappings to different scales for different bits, eg wings not the same size. I think Steve might want to avoid that.

hairyspin replied to a thread SP2 in FSX General Discussion
Hesitate no longer, bung SP2 on straight away. Any model that doesn't support SP2 nowadays isn't worth the download or (perish the thought!) purchase price. They're not called Service Packs for nothing.
