I'd just like to consider it much like a 'beta', and would be willing to try and improve anything that anyone may notice and report on. Both the Wozza and SkyUnlimited Texans get an equal working-out on my end (for instance, with Wozza's Texan, it's fun to leave the canopy cracked open through the entire flight (like the Kermie Cam video I posted above), hearing the sound of the wind and prop wash via Accu-feel). Quicksand, DL, and TuFun, you are very welcome! ; )

Hey all, After receiving some requests for them, I thought I would just go ahead and provide them in a post here. Attached is a set of alternative flight dynamics I have put together for both the Warwick "Wozza" Carter model and the Skyunlimited models, both Volumes 1 and 2. - All of the examples are setup to have the same general flight/handling and engine/prop characteristics, though each is specific to the individual models/features. - Stock engine/props for all models, though the Wozza models will be a smidge more 'sporty', as I accounted for there being a bit less drag on those. - The main cockpit eye points have been adjusted to place the user's viewpoint in the accurate location as when seated in the real thing (this is most noticeably changed in the SU models). - Corrects issues with the brakes in all models.

Paul, Just in case, like if you just reloaded FSX or got a new computer, make sure you have the SP1 and SP2 updates. This might be an issue concerning that. What I think is happening is that for some reason, the ship is up out of water, and it has a airport mated to the deck, so the land is coming up to the deck like it would if it were lover land, like a bad place runway that has the wrong surface altitude with the lay of the land. I'll bet Arno could figure this out quick.

Rick, the Paine Field scenery is default part of the ORBX Pacific Northwest scenery. Although far from perfect, it is a rather nice representation (it doesn't have anything where the Historic Flight Foundation facilities are located, just the ramp and taxiways, but there is a hangar located at the location of the FHC hangar which does, generically, look quite the part). It does have an aerial photo scenery as the base of the airport. And you are absolutely right about FHC's Fw 190A-5. It is the only original Fw 190 airframe flying in the world today (and extremely original at that, with something like 90%+ of the original internal structure, and even 85%+ original skins (which is just crazy, that that much remained preserved well enough to be used in the restoration)), and is powered by a BMW 801 engine, as per original. At this time, there are a couple of other original Fw 190 airframes which are also being restored to airworthy to be powered by BMW 801's - probably most noteworthy, the example known as "White 1", which was obtained by the Collings Foundation last year and remains on track to completion and flying (will likely be the next one to join the ranks of the FHC example). All of the other full-size Fw 190's you see flying today are Flugwerk replicas, and aren't really all that close to the originals, being largely 'based on' the original design, and not entirely copied from the original design - for instance, those who have tried have found that the Flugwerk parts/assemblies don't match up with original Focke-Wulf parts/assemblies, and thus cannot help in getting an original airframe completed.

Mike, Cleartheprop, and Quicksand, I'll polish them off (the flight dynamics files) and send them to you via PM. My aim was to have flight performance similar to the Virtavia/Alphasim models (airspeeds, acceleration), with the flight handling of the Warwick Carter models (control forces), together with the visuals of the SU models (I've done the same/use the same flight dynamics with the Warwick Carter models as well). If interested, I'll also include the modified panel.cfg files and gauge that I wrote for the tailwheel locking mechanism for the SU AT-6G and LT-6G variants, which, unlike the earlier Texans, had a tailwheel locking mechanism just like the P-51 (that was connected to the control stick position). If anyone else would be interested, just PM me, and I'll get the files off to you as well (volume 1 and 2). I'm still working on the textures (its been a bit of a long-term project).

BTW, continuing off of what you mention, Huub, I was a bit surprised to find that there are as many original period photographs of Dr.I's as there are available. For those that wonder about such things, only 320 Dr.I's were ever originally produced, and by the time of WWII only one of these of the original production was still surviving - which was serial no. 152/17, which had been one of the examples flown by Manfred von Richthofen, who had claimed three of his kills with that aircraft. Unfortunately, having been on display in a museum in Berlin, the aircraft was destroyed by the Allied bombing raids, and thus no originals remain today (save for a few parts and numerous pieces of fabric from originals (some have joked that there is so many surviving pieces that are claimed to have been from Richthofen's aircraft, that a complete example could be assembled from those pieces that are on display or in private collections around the world). Fokker did assemble one from existing parts they had in the 1930's, but that one too was destroyed during WWII while on display in Berlin. With only 320 having originally been built, it would be interesting to know in comparison the total number of the replicas which have been produced since WWI (probably quite a ways up there to matching that original production number).

Dave, I have both, and with Volume 2 you get quite a bit more than you do with Volume 1, for really no difference in price. The flight dynamics are very nice, but a bit underpowered (much like the flight dynamics with the Warwick Carter model). I've simply increased the horsepower and changed a few other items regarding the engine and prop in mine to get more airspeed out of them. I've been working on new textures, specs, and bump maps for the SU models at double the resolution as they come, with the hope of producing a number of my favorite Texan, SNJ, and Harvard paint schemes.

And what an interesting airframe - the history about it, and the colors and markings. Definitely looking forward to flying that one if you decide to upload it! BTW, on the topic of Mikael Carlson and his Dr.I reproduction, and the experience he has with flying it, there is a rather interesting discussion (originated a few years ago) at the Rise of Flight forums, that starts with some interesting feedback from Mikael Carlson about flying and operating an authentic Le Rhone powered Dr.I: http://riseofflight.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=14008 And here are some interviews with Mikael Carlson, discussing the Dr.I: http://www.clipwings.com/clip/1318/Mikael_Carlson_Fokker_DRI___Interview http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HEbzXZ0d6XA

I'm really disappointed to read a comment like that, and I don't see that as necessary at all. Warwick Carter's model is superb, as are the SkyUnlimited examples, which are fully out-fitted with all of the original cockpit hardware, and are also extremely accurate in reproducing the same 'lines' of the real aircraft (not to mention a whole assortment of Texan/Harvard/SNJ variations). Both productions have some very unique features about them as well. Between them, I can't pick a favorite. Here are some screenshots of the unique SkyUnlimited LT-6 'Mosquito' of the Korean War era:

Dave, that extension is simply part of the Photobucket link. Through Photobucket, if you want the image to display in the original native size, it has to have that "~original" extension at the end - "original" refers to that fact that the image will be displayed in its original size, rather than a smaller size. This has nothing to do with SOH, and is no 'meaningful act' other than to just have the image display in its proper size.

Thank you Vin for posting this thread! Just a bit less than a month ago I made a post in the FSX forum to mark the anniversary of the day that the 'Spirit of St. Louis' first flew. Amazing to consider that less than a month after its very first flight, Lindbergh was setting off across the Atlantic with it (having first just crossed the United States). The aircraft would be retired almost exactly a year later from that first flight, having only ever been piloted by Charles Lindbergh - with the exception of a short flight that Lindbergh's good friend Bud Gurney made with the aircraft shortly after Lindbergh had returned from the Atlantic flight, so that Bud could see how she handled (Bud had done some barnstorming with Lindbergh in the early 20's (as depicted in the Jimmy Stewart movie)).

Yes, he flew both Corsairs and P-38s on some missions in the South Pacific as a civilian. The (award winning) FG-1D Corsair operated by the Texas Flying Legends Museum pays a bit of homage to that fact, with 'Col. "Slim" Lindbergh' scribed under the canopy (on an otherwise 'standard' Pacific theatre three-tone paint scheme), with three kill markings, representing the number of Japanese aircraft that are believed to have been shot down by Lindbergh. http://www.texasflyinglegends.org/whistling-death-fg-1d Considering Lindbergh's age at the time of WWII, and the general ages of those in the service, he was quite an old guy at the time. Some photos of Lindbergh out in the South Pacific during the war:

A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category FSX Skins Description: This is a repaint for the freeware Neoqb Fokker Dr.1 for FSX. This repaint depicts the Fokker Dr.I Dreidecker reproduction that was built and is expertly flown by Mikael Carlson. Based in Sweden, and registered SE-XXZ, this aircraft is regarded as the most accurate reproduction flying today, utilizing all original plans for and all original type materials throughout its construction. The aircraft took 2-3 years to build, and is powered by an original 110 hp Le Rhone rotary engine. The aircraft, mostly painted in authentic factory finish, sports the serial numbers and markings of Johann Janzen's aircraft, 403/17 (Wk No. 1987), of Jasta 6, when based at Lien St. Amand, February 1918. I've gone ahead and uploaded the Mikael Carlson Dr.I repaint. I found a few more things to correct and add since the last screenshots I posted. For instance, the center support struts for the upper wings are the dark green, rather than the light blue. I also added the stencils to the lower surfaces of the wings. A rather cool coincidence about this aircraft, is that the Wk. No., accurate to the specific example it is marked to represent, is 1987 (the year I was born).

On my current display, the green looks dark and saturated enough, but on another it looks a bit washed out. The markings on this reproduction of Mikael Carlson's, is that of Johann Janzen's aircraft, 403/17, of Jasta 6, when based at Lien St. Amand, February 1918.

Thank you Mike, Matt, and Huub, I appreciate it! Here is a work in progress on Mikael Carlson's Fokker Dr.1 - which I believe is regarded as the most authentic reproduction flying (all original materials-construction (including the original types of metal and wood), original period instruments (the very few there are), and a 110 hp Le Rhone rotary engine). It also has a very authentic factory-type finish over-all. I went back to square one on the fabric streaked paint, and tried to recreate the same general look/colors as seen on Mikael Carlson's example (for those wondering, the paint kit doesn't come with the fantastic streaked-fabric paint as seen in the textures that come with the Neoqb Dr.1). What you see is about five layers over the top of each other to try and get that look of the fabric paint. All that I believe I need to correct now is the color of the horizontal tail struts, a couple of small parts around the tail, and enlarge and re-position the stencils on the main wing struts. This is not only my favorite of the replicas flying today, due to its fantastic originality, but also because of the pilot that flies it (one of my top 3 or so favorite pilots in the world). Not only is it probably the most authentic example flying today, but it is also flown more to its max capabilities than any other that I am aware of. Through Mikael Carlson's displays, you can really see what an aircraft of this type can do, through loops, rolls, and spins. The aircraft is located in Sweden (along with the rest of Mikael Carlson's amazing collection of very authentic reproduction and original aircraft from the WWI and pre-WWI era), registered SE-XXZ, and has been displayed at several countries throughout Europe, including Germany and England, and has even displayed in Russia. (There is also a less-authentic example based in France that is finished in the same markings)

Thank you Mike. Yes, I've been going through and doing each of the seven paint schemes that are applied to the replicas owned by filmmaker Peter Jackson/The Vintage Aviator, based in New Zealand (seen here: http://nzcivair.blogspot.com/2012/05/fokker-triplane-replicas-of-new-zealand_12.html). All of these schemes are historic (majority of them with documented pilots), of examples that were part of Jasta 11, "The Flying Circus". Once all seven are complete, they all will be uploaded as one combined set. I've been saving the easiest for last, and although I've got some other business to tend to tonight, I should have the final two completed within an hour or two and will start to get them put together for upload. Here are some new screenshots of the latest example, with some changes again to the streaked-fabric. I've adjusted the colors and contrasts again, and I think I can be content enough to settle for them, and now I will just have to make the same changes to the previous repaints shown before (though I may lean them back to being a bit more brown).

Many thanks John. I didnt know that. Explains why the Tigermoth trainers were all yellow. I know very little of the WWII schemes and regulations. Thanks DVJ. It will not have floats though, nor scenery. This package will sport two versions of airframes; inline 6 Rangers and radial Warner Super Scarabs. No differences in panels aside from classic krinkle black to chipped up 'i need new paint' to restored, high quality wood laminants. All of the panels were pretty much the same, though they did have some slight variations, they were mostly all the same shape. The pacers however had 'alot' of changes and model versions. They actually had probably 5 versions of 'factory' panels, and they have kits now for updated modern version panels which I captured one in the 'bush' version of the Pacer. So, the Fairchild will not be as diverse as the Pacer in that there arent so many versions. And..... They will be able to shed their skirts off! (wheel pants. wheel cover things. aerodynamic landing gear shells). :S

Thank you Dave, Mike, and Huub. As the case is with really good paintkits, about 85% or more of the actual texture work is purely provided by the artist that made the paintkit. I'd be more than happy to send the paintkit to anyone who would like to have it, and I have just sent a copy to you Huub via PM. I know I'll be greatly looking forward to any and all repaints you may produce for this model! Besides those seen in the couple of photos I posted (which are all examples owned by The Vintage Aviator, based in New Zealand), the only others I have had in mind are Mikael Carlson's, Pioneer Flight Museum's (Kingsbury, Texas), Grimes Field/Golden Age of Aviation Museum's (which is also painted as Lothar von Richthofen's aircraft, but has various differences than the example I've duplicated above), and my own recreation of the Waldo Pepper scheme. Though for any of these, I don't want to try and claim them.

Thank you Matt and Pips. Its been a long-time favorite of mine too - I've always liked the combination of yellow/green/red on this aircraft. I redid the fabric streaked paint, after having not been too pleased with my prior attempt. I found the last couple of small parts where I didn't know they were mapped, added the right color to them, and also added the stencils, so I think this one is finished. Once you know where everything is, it is a very enjoyable and very effective paint kit to work with. The first seven repaints, all from the 'Flying Circus', will be released as a set sometime next week, which will allow you to recreate these scenes in FSX: http://cdn-www.airliners.net/aviation-photos/photos/4/0/0/1201004.jpg http://cdn-www.airliners.net/aviation-photos/photos/0/9/2/1355290.jpg (With a lot of the streaked paint scheme showing on these aircraft, I'll be mindful to try and keep each one looking a bit different, so that no two have the exact same 'streaks'.)

I seem to recall that there was one when Neoqb hosted the aircraft, but since that site is no more, I can't seem to find the paintkit for it available anywhere else (though some good individual did upload the aircraft to a few different FS sites a while back, which was perfectly in allowance with the developer's rules/regulations regarding the distribution of the aircraft files, but I don't believe the paintkit was uploaded anywhere). If anyone is in such a position, if you'd like, you can just pm me. Thanks! - John

The yellow under-surfaces was actually a common aspect of paint schemes on non-combat RAF aircraft, like trainers, personnel and cargo aircraft, prototypes, etc. The yellow acted as an identification marking so that those on the ground knew it was a friendly.

Thanks John for the info. Interesting to know that the mustard yellow belly on the Brittain version is authentic. I wonder why they had yellow? One that is going around actually looks like a Storch paint scheme, but has Allied markings. Reminds me in my younger days, a guy had a Stearman painted in WWI German markings... Why??? sigh...

OMG!!! Somebody from Ottawa, Illinois !!?!

Back in the early '70s, four hippies landed in Ottawa on a X-country flight (in a 172 ) from Ottawa, Ont. Canada to Denver. We camped out at the airport and the local newspaper came out and took photos. Apparently the story ended up on the front page of the newspaper. I would give my left nut for a copy of that story!!!
Could you do some research for me (there's nothing on-line)??? I'm talkin' summers of "71 & 72"...........I think I would go for a monetary reward if found.
    Thanks,
    Lucky Dog ( Glenn)
