Since it uses the Flight1 wrapper I assume their 30-day refund policy will also work for this aircraft. It's really not that hard to start, just follow the instructions on page 5 of the manual ("Just tell me how to start it."), the only tricky is the timing to click the throttle. Wait about 3 seconds to click it after clicking the battery switch.

Okay, this is the Michigan TM-5. They also built the Dallas-Breese X which evolved into the Vultee V-1A (same designer). "TM-5 1930 = 1pChwM; 120hp Dayton Bear. Engine was in a pod mounted atop the cabin. c/n 1. Reported scrapped and burned 9/3/30, reg cancelled 9/5/30" Open board please.

Thanks John, it is indeed good to see both back in the air! I love seeing those classics up in the air and this year we got to see plenty with the P-51D, two Spitfires, B-25, Anson, Beaver, Cub, Fokker S-11, Meteor, Fouga, MiG-15, Phantom, two Dakotas, Catalina, Dragon Rapide, Beech 18, Harvard, Hunter and Viggen!

What would help is a ban on bringing stairs, steps, pieces of scaffolding and other thing you can climb on, so the front row isn't blocked by people standing on them.. That shower on Saturday was nasty! About halfway through my umbrella broke by a hard gust of wind and left me and my camera exposed. Had to grab my camera cover and rain suit in a hurry!

That's at least some good news, Vin! I already heard rumors during my last visit that the people of Soesterberg were not happy with the US aircraft not becoming a part of the new museum, as they felt it was a big part of the history of their town. Seems like they listened after all! The Phantom didn't fly a display, but it did two passes before landing on Friday morning. Quite a nice surprise!

Who knows! The company produced one other design, a low wing monoplane that looked vaguely like a Vultee V-1. Edit: Here is an ad for the actual engine.

Didn't see any while at Rhodes either! But I guess the Greeks don't have any other option but to continue flying their Phantoms at the moment..? With the current crisis I'm sure then won't (And probably can't) spend anything on a replacement anyway. The good news is that 'we' recently purchased a Phantom for the air force museum in Soesterberg and painted it in the colours of the Wolfhounds back when they were based there. It was supposed to fit in the museum's display of the F-86, F-100, F-102 (A former Greek aircraft) and F-15, but with the move to a new location and merger with the army museum there's a chance we won't see any of those aircraft again.. Last rumor I've heard had the Phantom and F-15 rotating on display and the others sold, stored or scrapped.

There's a switch or panel to activate the tailhook on the model, but it's hidden when you load the aircraft.

Well, I was four years old back in 1980, so...... :icon_lol: I've seen Phantoms on static display almost every year since 2000 (When I started visiting the shows) but they never did a display, and not even during holidays in Germany or Turkey did I see one. Much like the Fitter the Phantom is a great fuel-to-noise converter, but not a great aircraft for a show, as those beasts seem to prefer to fly only in a straight line at high speeds.

Stuart: The Viggen is quite noisy and has an earth shaking rumble on take-off, but those Fitters are even louder! :applause:

Another aircraft you never see flying, but now a pair did a display; Polish Sukhoi Su-22M4 Fitter. Lots of noise and smoke but not very good at making turns: Air Atlantique Avro Anson, yet another first for me: This KLM 737 did a fly-by and landing, it was filled with about 120 severly disabled or sick children, for which an foundation called 'Hoogvliegers' (High flyers) organizes special trips like these:

This weekend the Dutch air force organized the traditional air show weekend (Friday and Saturday) and of course we attended both days again. The special theme this year was '100 years of military aviation' as the Dutch air force was founded back in 1913. Despite budget cuts a nice program was assembled, including four of the best display teams in the world: the Red Arrows, Frecce Tricolori, Patruille Suisse and the Patrouille de France. Other jets included the solo F-16 displays from the RNLAF, Belgian air force and Turkish airforce, Czech and Hungarian Gripen and the French 'Ramex' team with two Mirage 2000N. Because of the 100 years anniversary a lot of classic aircraft attended, including a few from the Battle of Britain memorial flight (BBMF) and Air Atlantique. Took a whole lot of photos; here are a few highlights: German F-4 Phantom in its 'Pharewell' paint. Amazingly I never saw one flying although the Germans and Turks attended several shows in the past but Always on the static show: Polish Lim-2 (MiG-15); another one I never saw flying before:

Do that, Matt - Yeovilton used to be my regular aviation haunt - I love that place. Years ago, your visit was almost certainly rewarded with the Sea Fury, Firefly or Swordfish on a check flight or all three departing for an airshow. The museum was sensational - that's where I fell in love with the big American radial CATS! Big, staunch, beautifully engineered, carrierworthy babies towering over the FA birds. When I was at secondary school in Torquay during the early '70's, we'd get a Camberra flyover every Thursday as regular as clockwork (undersurfaces yellow/black diagonal stripes). A REALLY extra treat would be the appearance of a Sea Vixen - man what a lorry of a crate!

The DH89 did fly between Pemba, Zanzibar and Dar-es-Salaam on Sunday evenings as Flight EC207. This must have been a magical experience for anyone lucky enough to have made the trip, though many of them probably took it for granted and were worrying more about the price of tungsten, how England were doing in the Test Match, or whether little Nigel would pass his Common Entrance, rather than noticing the ethereal, eternal African sunset... You're travelling more or less due south:

Before we land on Zanzibar there is some catching up to do with the Ladybird book. As well as the boat race on Lake Victoria and the school in Uganda, there were at least two more pages, + their illustrations, for Kenya. Here you have the classic vague justification for colonialism: the original inhabitants weren't exploiting their land properly, so they deserved to lose it to people who knew how to make money from it! This is illustrated by perhaps the most remarkable picture in the whole little book: The artist has essentially painted typical English countryside, familiar to the early '60s British children for whom the book was produced. This has led to the imported sheep having to be unrealistically squeezed into a cornfield. It is pretty obvious who's Lord of All he Surveys. But, as the text most patronisingly mentioned, 'the farm workers were Africans, who were very clever with the machinery.' (OK as long as it's a Massey Fergusson tractor rather than a Kalashnikov rifle).
