Thanks for the links John. Very interesting read and the demonstration in the second video gives a fine impression of what this aircraft actually could do. It gives whole new definitions of STOL, steep turns and fast climb. On of the nice things about repainting is that during your research you learn a lot about history. I never knew that all German aircraft manufactures used their own paint. Therefore the grayish light blue from Albatross is quite different than the turquoise Fokker used. Standards like RAL and RLM were not introduced yet. With engines which develop less power than the ordinary family car, all the weight counts! Therefore on Fokker aircraft the olive paint was applied as thin as possible. The (later) production models had the upper surfaces not painted turquoise, but the olive brush strokes were applied on the bare fabric and afterwards coated with two layers of varnish. The later lozenge fabric was mainly invented to reduce weight as the ink of the printed pattern weighted less than paint. This also explains a bit why Mikael Carlson's replica weights more than the original. Although I must admit not the full 80 Kilograms.... :isadizzy: Cheers, Huub

Thank you all for your very kind words. I would like to mention that GarryJSmith has kindly offered to host my web site content. I believe he has downloaded it all now so you may be hearing from him if he can successfully get the content in a format and presentable form. If he does that, then the content will be available free of charge as always and remain statically preserved. Thank you Garry. For those interested in the Gmax tutorials, they have always (well, for 4-5 years now) been posted down in the Design forums and are "sticky'ed" there. There are some videos and graphic tutes that are not part of the C-162 series so check them out. http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/forumdisplay.php?22-Aircraft-Design-Animation

You will be restricted by the model implementation of suspension movement and gear placement (height). Also, as you change static compression and max-static ratio, you will need to adjust the vertical distance in the contact points. The description of the contact points are found in the aircraft container SDK.

Static pitch only affects the angle when in slew mode; it has nothing to do with how the aircraft sits on the tarmac. Same with static height ... only in slew mode. Contact points static compression and max-static ratio are used to affect suspension static compression and travel. Before you change it, multiply static compression times the max-static ratio. You must maintain that result whenever you change static compression or max-static ratio. (This assures that the sim mirrors the animated travel established in the model.) For example, contact points static compression and max-static ratio changes as follows: Now: .5', 2.5 = 1.25' New: .8', x.x - 1.25

...but as the title indicates it is a thread about the paintlkit, I thought you wouldn't mind that I used to thread to mention I made some use of the piantkit as well :running: In August 1917 two prototypes of the Fokker tri-plane were delivered. The 102/17 went to Manfred von Richthofen and 103/17 was delivered to Werner Voss. Von Richthofen was not impressed, mainly because it was slower than the Albatross D.V it should replace and handed the aircraft over to Kurt Wolff. Although van Richthofen initially disliked the aircraft he made scored two victories with the 102/17. On 15 September Wolff was killed in this aircraft in a dogfight with Norman MacGregor. Aircraft number 103/17 was flown by Werner Voss who was impressed by maneuverability of the aircraft and later convinced von Richthofen about the qualities of the aircraft. The "face" on the engine cover is based on the images on Japanese flighter kites, which Voss used to fly with his cousins in Krefeld. The aircraft was equipped with a French Le Rhône engine which was more reliable than the German Oberursel copy. Voss was killed in this aircraft on 23 September after a fight with six aces from RAF 56 squadron. The aircraft were delivered in an overall turquoise finish with olive brush strokes over the upper surfaces. There is a lot of discussion about the colour of the engine and wheel covers. Some sources claim they were painted in the unit colour (yellow). However I haven't been able to find one single picture which supports this claim. Cheers, Huub

We will be airborne, heading to the IOM again. I'm collecting a KTM 990 to ride around the IOM (not racing!!) and for a couple of weeks tour of Ireland. And it's not an extravagance, the bike is in sort supply and a good financial investment for resale when we return to Oz. We are staying at the 'Waterfront Apartments' in Douglas, not far from the circuit. I'll try to check in from time to time but after the TT our plans are very fluid, one day at a time. :jump::jump:

I have downloaded the C162 tutorial folder and trying to decide the best way to package it. It is 135MB, 29 folders and 621 files. If you have MS Word, after downloading, you could change the hyperlinks to point at your folders, otherwise right now, the hyperlinks are useful to identify the folder for each exercise. Then opening that folder, you can simply open the index.html file to view the contents. A little cumbersome but not bad. Not sure if there is an easier way than editing the hyperlinks once the package is downloaded though.

Hypothetical: - If Logano had been leading with Stewart in 2nd & Newman in 3rd, what would have happened? :icon_lol:

Thanks everyone. The website host has had its issues for the last year or so and in spite of lots of trouble tickets, they continue. We had several domains and now have discontinued all of them. I have all the download files and raw page data so if anything is needed, maybe I can make that available. The C-162 gmax tutorials will not be available so if anyone wants that, they better grab it. I will be making all gmax source available again here at SOH if anyone is interested. I have not done any design work since January/February; just needed a sabbatical.

Oh, I see where Henry has a new Avatar and mighty looking it is. From the sails I see behind you I see that like me, your a sailing man. I once owned Rhodes 19 No. 1.
Hey look, they gave me your name as being close to the Supreme Commander of SOH and the British Empire, Scotland, Ireland and Wales.
I made a donation to SOH but I tried to make it on behalf of TeaSea, Thomas C. Wilson. But it wouldn't allow me to do it. It rang it through as though Bob Folsom, Helldiver did it.
Can you change it, huh Henry?

Hey Henry good afternoon! I wanted to give you a heads up about a possible virus infected link. Its the video posted in the thread " A Video for the Hobit ". I download it because I don't recall getting the option to play the file online. After downloading it I was unable to delete it and finally had to boot in the safe mode to dump it. Two other people said their antivirus is flagging it as a virus. Hate to see someones system get messed up.

    Hi Henry,

Did you get the chance to read my "Admin - suggestion" thread in the CFS3 forum? If not, it was basically asking for a sub-forum, probably limited posting rights, to put threads or bits of threads which have useful modding info and tutorials in them. Obviously my "How to install" thread comes to mind, but there are loads of bits of useful info that disappear into the back pages of the main forum which it would be nice to be able to find more easily. Any thoughts? I realise it's more work, but it probably wouldn't be that busy...

    Thanks,

    Nigel

    Hello Henry

I am trying to do a new skin and a stand alone B-17 for MAW North Africa using the AvH_US_B-17G-80_002 as a template and I need their permission to do so. I have tried their forum and the person listed in the readme file included with the aircraft, without success. O1-Driver and Bear are mentioned in the readfile; but, I do not know if they can give me the go-ahead with the stand alone or not. If they can, can you be so kind and pass this request to them or info me of who do i have to write to to get the approval. I am planning on using "Superman" B-17F S/N 41-24380 as part of a real nose art for one of the aircraft - do I need permission to use 'Superman' as well?

Sorry to bother you with this.

    Thanks and God bless
