This is great news, Ian. Your Singapore and Kharmsakar RAF bases are up in my favourite for retro RAF/RN FAA flying. dl

Darn you Jafo ... bad enough that I had to ignore these lovely 2d panels on the Phantom and Voodoo (they're streteched on my 4:3 screen), but how am I going to ignore it on this lovely beauty? :pop4: You're really pushing me to buy a widescreen format monitor, aren't you? If my kids can't eat next month, it's on you, mate! :biggrin-new: Seriously - lovely work. Hope you can do something with the VC texturing - the canopy rails are now a bit dated. This is a lovely bird, looking forward to what you can do with it. BTW, for the newbs, the AS/V F-8 model in question was recently released as an FS9 freeware model, then subsequently repackaged as an FSX-compatible portover, completely with some great cockpit, repaint, and .air additions here: ...

Indeed - lovely paint indeed. Mr. Jurcaga's F and ML Mig-21s are simply delightful. I haven't installed them in my new DX-10 FSX install - I hope they work (esp, the F, but being an FS9 port). Thanks for some great looking paints! dl

Clearly you don't know how Zsolt works, nor how to meaningfully answer the question. Over the last couple of years, Zsolt's repaints are not free, and are not posted for download on any site. The way he operates is if you see a repaint you like, PM him, and he takes a very small donation via paypal for it - and then contacts you back with the download address. Some of his older repaints are available on flightsim and a few other sites. I'm thankful that most repainters don't operate this way, but he possesses a very rare talent, and for a handful of selected paints that would not have otherwise been available, I consider my tiny donation to his work very worthwhile. dl

Just read a raving review about Pilots Global Mesh at Avsim. Impressive Alps/Courchevel video included. The video (although in winter season) is a good oportunity to check FSGenesis mesh against Pilots mesh. So i took off from LFLJ as well (don't have Twin Otter installed yet) and have to come to conclusion that i don't see any reason to chance my FSGenesis mesh for Pilots mesh. ( my cc is also happy about that plus i don't need to go thru the installation of Pilots mesh which, according to the Avsim thread, seems to be quite a hassle) As i have not really ventured into the realms of FS video creation, here's a still shot of my trip above the Alps with OpenLC and FSG :

Absolutely. I seemed to understand that 'FTXGlobal OpenLC' upgraded FTXGlobal's textures and autogen to such extend that the difference between FTXGlobal and the FTXEuro UK regions would only be minimal. I know better now. Great! :encouragement: You're talking about all 'ORBX!OPENLC_EUROPE*' files, right ? (just trying to understand how it all fits together..)

Yoké, sorry to say, but i think i see what you mean... Dang it, promised myself to stick with Global/hybrid.Period. Now not sure anymore.. I just picked something, short flight Carlisle-Manchester, 3000 ft, 140kts. First P3D-FTX England, no 3P mesh no OpenLC, followed by FSX-FTXGlobal/Hybrid/OpenLC, and finally FSX-FTXEurope/OpenLC. Roger that,Roger, FTXGlobal/Hybrid IS a compromise. Wasn't too sure about that (wishful thinking), but you're absolutely right. Didn't see any anomalies though... What i did see was lesser fps with FTXEu, 30/40. FTXG/Hybrid 40/50. All sliders max. Haven't installed any 3P airports yet...

Why don't you use FTXGlobal/hybrid, Roger ? Don't you see a lesser fps too flying with FTXEurope ticked compared to Global/hybrid ? I do, certainly flying over London. ( all sliders max, no road traffic ) Maybe i still don't get it, but we still see FTXEurope (in this case England) when FTXGlobal is activated and Hybrid is ticked, right ?...

Hi Tim. No, i don't have FTX Global Vector ( yet...). Next to FTX Global, FSGenesis Europe and now FTX Global OpenLC Eu i also use UTX Europe but only, more or less, half of it. F.i. i cannot live with all these roads ruining the beautiful ground textures and autogen as if they weren't there. Ok, so much for 'as real as it gets' but it's all more or less fictional anyway, isn't it. So i go with 'as beautiful as it gets'. :) Been reading up about it, thanks for the tip! Seems though that FSG2010 still has its own problems with elevation at certain area's. Wish i could try a demo so i wouldn't need to install the full 40 Gigs just to find out i like FSGenesis better... I wonder if FTX Vector tracks FTX Autogen so you don't see roads and rivers running thru houses and...

A fine water-rollercoaster somewhere near the French Pyrenees: I know this is not the fault of OpenLC Europe of course but more like the terrain mesh add-on i am using, which is FSGenesis Europe. In addition a lot of airfields in mountainous area's are build on plataus as well. AFAIK nothing can be done about it for the time being. True ??.... I was wondering if there is a high def terrain mesh that doesn't show these anomalies ? Any hints/tips highly appreciated!

Thanks, Stan, all understood, and yes the best thing one can do is to see for oneself of course so i did that. :encouragement: First thing i noticed was that the slight 'panic' i was in re my beloved FTX/UK sceneries proved not necessary at all. As someone said 'much ado about nothing'. Of course all clear on all European countries outside UK with FTX Central set at FS Global. Mostly very impressive indeed! But i have to agree with what others say about the area's they know from real life. F.i. to me it looks quite eerie to see massive 'urbanisation' bordering some of the Schiphol runways which was not the case with just the FTX Global scenery. I guess that's just something you have to get used to. For the most part it's pretty much fictional anyway of course. On the other hand...

thanks - installed today ... didn't get a chance to read all the manual in my excitement ... Having re-read the manual, it looks like I still need these in place as AI "aircraft" - even if not in multiplayer, correct? Sounds like they need to be there irrespective of whether in single player or multi player mode. Anyone who can confirm? thanks, dl

Hello, Got the Trojan as part of the PC Aviator sale a couple of weeks back. Simply lovely, Ant - phenomenal work. My question is why the rocket and bomb models show up as "aircraft" in the aircraft list. Thinking that as most weapons, I should move them to the "Misc" folder - they still appear in the aircraft list in the sim. Why is that? I'd like, if possible to have my menu as tidy as possible - wondering how to fix this. thanks, dl

That's a nice juxtaposition there, dc. Exactly shows the feeling i can't help having about the fixed gear version: that there's something wrong with it and now a sister ship is leading it in to aid a safe landing.... A fixed gear looks perfectly normal on its predecessor, the Dragon Rapide, but looks very weird to me on a 'modern' regional airliner that had its first flight in the 1950's. Always been a big fan of the Dove, not only because it looks lovely but also because i had my first ever flight in it ( scenic flight with Martin's Air Charter in 1958, never to forget.. :-) and it was the first ever digital model i created for FS. Later on i saw it many times at air display shows carrying the crew for the Battle of Britain flight. She always performed a little display...

Sorry - I should have made it clear (and have corrected my original query) - has anyone gotten it to work in FSX+DX10? I have used it extensively pre- DX10, it's only now with DX10 that I have issues. I have Steve's fixer enabled, and all salient effects toggled. But the VC canopy is still solidly opaque from the inside. Since the Phantom projects extant (Milviz and Jamal's) focus on B/E/J models, the Iris model is the only K/FG model we're likely to see for quite a long time. I know Flying Stations bought the model rights to a certain unfinished British mesh/model - but gauging from the development time on the two Bucc's, I'd be surprised to see it this side of 2016. Of course, that project would doubtlessly result in a lovely model - but to enjoy the impending John Young /...

Has anyone gotten this gem of a portover to work in FSX with DX10? I would happily pick up a couple of Zsolt's paints and just simply continue flying this model. Many thanks! dl

Bingo ! Thanks, Mike ! Didn't have gaugesound.dll in my FSX main indeed. Must be because i have a new system and only installed a few add-on aircraft models sofar. Got it from FSDeveloper. 'relative' new version from Doug himself. Everything's fine now, Mike ! Now i can really enjoy your new masterpiece ! :applause: Thanks again ! Cheers, Jan

I really don't mind flying in the UK OR the mainland of Europe. Why turn on Hybrid just to cross the Channel or North-Sea (i'll take a Ferry.. :) ). Flying in Europe mainland i'll select FTX Global in FTX Central. That'll work fine with OLC. Flying in the UK i'll select FTX Europe. According to the manual that will NOT work because Global OpenLC will only work correctly with FTX Global selected. ( see excerpt of the manual above ) I think i'll buy it anyway and see what FTX Global OpenLC will do with FTXGlobal UK. Forget about FTX Europe for now. If i don't like it, Like FTX Europe better, i'll put my copy of Global OLC up on eBay. :teapot:

    Hey Jan,

You guys have been quiet as of late; still waiting on the updated flight dynamics from Rob Young before releasing the updated 2004 sabre?

I hope all of your work with MAAMsim is going well, and that you are having fun with your new gaming machine.

We continue to enjoy the F-86 in FSX very much; we never get tired of it. We look forward to the day that you run the model through the FSX SDK to compile a native FSX model.

    Wishing you the very best,

    Chris Eells

Hey Jan, what ever happened to the N3-N? I have been patiently waiting for it. It was good rugged ship, better than the Stearman.
