Funny you should ask ... When Don's latest update was published, I saw the indicators for down as barberpole. That just seemed odd - but in in some photos in my books, they indeed show that for some of the newer E/J/L models. (eg: rear cover of Detail & Scale F-8 Crusader). Steve Pace's F-8 Part One, p.66 shows a vertical bar on a B model. In most of the museum models, they seem to be barberpoled....

Hello JAFO, Just had to pop in to say a huge thanks - in particular for the DFRC scheme, with the fixed lettering option, no less. The metal looks awesome - all the various panels with different shades of polish - looks just superb. With all this work you've done, there really is something for everyone. Many kind thanks! DL

I'm going to try and rent a boat, see what it's like from the water. We should investigate about AI aircraft traffic. Nothing much going on right now. ( i use UT2 ) I read something about special AI flightplans for 29Palms Mykonos ?... ( i don't have Mykonos yet) Do you have any AI traffic going on at Skiathos ?... cheers, jan

I see your point. But it just might be that a scenery dev has to choose between loosing certain effects in favor of DX10 compatibillity. F.i. the nightlighting in Skiathos is really amazing and a.o. i see light fx i personally have never seen before, like 3D lightbeams on AI cars. Maybe not possible in DX10 sofar.... And of course, if it wasn't for Steve Parsons who would use DX10 today... And yes, i'll take that Lambo anytime even if only for a run around the block.

Well, looking forward to whatever you come up with. Indeed, those "older" NASA paints you did were my favourite for this model until this recent batch. So if they benefit from any of your current panel line work great - no worries either way. A further twist on the NASA models - for more peaceful purposes, could be a rendition to represent the earth science surveillance platform that was the U-2 and now the ER-2. One could easily argue the delta wing does not confer the greatest high-altitute performance - but, it's a sim, right? A bit hard to find good photos ... I really like this older scheme with the blue meatball ... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v487/theplasticsurgeon/ModelPlanes/U2s/Airfix_U2_Nasa.jpg . http://aether.lbl.gov/www/projects/u2/U2EXPGFS.JPG

http://royalefrenchnavy.perso.sfr.fr/RFN-1-CDG-FR.htm - look at the 2) on the right. Don, what's there more to say - other than AWESOME - CAN'T WAIT! Another RF-paint seems almost too good to be true - that you've mapped it to the F8U-1Emodel is great news - the fewer missiles, the better! :) Looking forward to this - and it's motivating me to find more time to finish my Cuba '60 scenery project ... This is what the Simmarket email that announces the patch says about it: The installer is a complete replacement for previous versions, existing customers just need to remove the old version and install the new one.

All I'm thinking (and maybe they already have it) - but your X-24B and X-15 inspired paints from pages 3-4 of this thread - could they benefit from your recent updates? That's really all for me - the couple USMCs, couple of Navy prototypes, and couple of NASAs - my cup runneth over!! DL

Smokin', JAFO!! No worries on the text orientation. You're right, the other text in relation to the NASA flash would have had to have been "over" the flash. Although that's the compromise I'd have made, the key word is "I'd" - the your repaint, your choice - so no worries - love it all the same. NASA font is all sorted - nothing left to say - oh, except that I saw you snuck in a Dryden logo - clever bugger! All in all - it's just magnificent. 10/10, mate! Cheers, DL

Hello JAFO! They all look awesome!! Re: F/A-12 prototype (red/white) - I'd say it's there. Re: YA-12 (NASA) - I think the blue looks good as you've rendered it. My only commentary would be around the NASA font - and position. You've used a serif'ed font, vs the non-serif font used in the mid 70s period in the ref photo. Here's a few other NASA aircraft using the same yellow flash/black lettering - all from the same period. Now granted, these are dedicated NASA test bed machines - but the point is they used the same flash font during this period .... http://www.air-and-space.com/20060213%20Palmdale/DSC_2988%20Jetstar%20N814NA%20NASA%20left%20side%20l.jpg

Do yourself a favor and take a vacation. Very cheap appartments for hire on Skiathos,Greece. I'd say this is easily the most enchanting island scenery ever released for FSX. And not only that, it has the most enchanting fps too for an Autogen infested scenery. Absolutely breathtaking ! :applause::applause::applause: Superbly developed by 29Palms and published by Aerosoft. (also available at Simmarket) http://en.shop.aerosoft.com/eshop.php?action=home&shopfilter_category=Flight+Simulation&s_design=DEFAULT&s_language=english Screenshots ? No problem:

JAFO - you're an animal, mate!! Unbelievable productivity. Looks awesome - my only minor comment would be the FA-18 - perhaps would better as "F/A-18" - as per both the paint scheme and the general USN/USMC fighter type nomenclature. Besides that ... just make some room at my fave hangar at Patuxent for some trials .... she'll be well loved!! Cheers, DL

Indeed, as has been pointed out - that's the RF-8, which along with the RF-8A, were the two photo-recce versions of the Crusader. Here's another shot of that low-vis scheme - taken right before the decomissioning of VFP-206 .... Though generally not a fan of the low-vis schemes, there are certain aircraft that sported it well, and the Crusader (in my view) is one of them. But then, I'm biased ... Back to the E(FN) version currently being modelled, here's a few more pics of it in its French environment. Love this shot - you really see how much that front gear gets compressed on arrested landings - the mains are actually off the ground! ... I love the intense balance of kinetic forces in this photo ...

Looks great Sylvain - your team knows how to conjur some real FSX magic! Since in most of our lifetimes, we've seen the E (FN) version in the darker low vis grey ... here's a few shots in its earlier Aeronavale schemes, which was the standard USN white/grey .... shown here cross decking onto a USN carrier (guessing from the VF-14 F-14s, likely either USS Kennedy or USS Independence.)

Glad I'm not the only one who likes these! :) JAFO, you've done so much ... but since you've asked - and again, just ideas .... Given the "protoype" nature of this plane, maybe this might work, angular lines and all ... (of course, with MD as the vendor, not Northrop ...) Further into development .... also some funky angular lines that might work on this model ...

I'm away from my sim pc for a few days - if this is still brewing by next Monday when I return, I'll definitely try for you.. I've replaced those big new hangars with a couple of the older style on the south end of the field - again, to give it an older feel. So I'd have to deactivate my "NAS Cecil 1960" and reinstall the stock package, and try. Should take just 5 min. Best regards, DL

No sweat. I've just backdated it in ADEX - took out the new hangars, and with it, a bunch of the newer objects, including the one in question (ADEX didn't id it, had no thumbnail, just was a black box the way other objects are handled, so I can't tell you what it is. In any event, it's gone now - thanks to John's and team's superb work, and with 30 min in ADEX, it's now NAS Cecil Field 1960 ... what fun! Now, tell me who wouldn't give a pretty penny to have one of these to fly from there .... yes, this Fury from VF-62 was one of the numerous jet squardons based at Cecil in the late 50s ...

Looks good - a bit hard on FPS on my machine - but it's likely just that. What's with the fire on the flight-line? I've got a full-on bonfire raging between the two northernmost hangars ... weird. Love the field, no issues with missing textures. Many thanks, DL

There's something somewhat believeable about the Vulcan paint, for sure! These look good. I don't know if you've thought about it - but is any of your recent weathering applicable onto a USMC A-6E type scheme of this sort: http://img.wp.scn.ru/camms/ar/788/pics/3_17.jpg or ... light compass grey ... some such variation?

    Hey Jan,

You guys have been quiet as of late; still waiting on the updated flight dynamics from Rob Young before releasing the updated 2004 sabre?

I hope all of your work with MAAMsim is going well, and that you are having fun with your new gaming machine.

We continue to enjoy the F-86 in FSX very much; we never get tired of it. We look forward to the day that you run the model through the FSX SDK to compile a native FSX model.

    Wishing you the very best,
