Got the first German mission under my belt. :applause: I had to do it in a darkened room in order to see, but all went well. I'm going to alternate German - Italian and see how it goes. :running: Mission 1 for the Italians checks out fine too - a furball! I'll try to get some screenshots of the next missions

A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Aircraft - British Description: Update of Bismarck13's Bristol Bombay I took Bismarck13's (William Dickens) Bombay and simply did some refining to it. I created new skins with panel lines..basic servicable panel lines, nothing super sharp or detailed...just enough to give the plane some character. I revamped the DP file, using the Ground Crew British Weapons pack. There are 4 skins in this pack. The first is just a revamp of the original desert scheme that came with the plane. The second is a desert scheme Air Ambulance. Third is a Cargo variant in overall RAF Dark Green. Lastly is a Dark Green and Medium Sea Gray camo scheme...not accurate but looks nice. The Air Ambulance Skin: I attempted to recreate the Bombay in the markings of No1 Air Ambulance Unit, RAAF, based on an image sent to me by Hewman. Unfortunately, I was not able to do so in a manner that satisfied me. The Red Cross insignia on the sides of the fuselage should have No 1 Air Ambulance Unit RAAF in a semi-circle on the top half of the insignia...I was not able to produce that lettering in a curve with any of the software I have...or at least not with results that were good enough to use..they tended to be blurry and uneven. Secondly, the real RAAF Air Ambulance had the Red Cross insignia wrapped across the bottom of the fuselage..again, the results from many attempts to achieve this were less than stellar..very blurred, very streaky. So, I opted to include my first rendition of an Air Ambulance....it may not be totally accurate, but it looks good. And I think most simmers would rather have a good looking plane that is not quite on par with history than to have a historical skin that looks like crap. ________________________ A great big thank you to Bismarck for creating this fine aircraft. While it is not a super significant aircraft in terms of usage during WW2, it is a nice addition to the CFS2 line up of avaiable aircraft. Bismarck has produced many many aircraft that fit in this mold...planes that history and most model makers have over looked. Thanks also to Peperez and Hewman for supplying info on the colors and markings used on the Bombay. Thanks to the folks at Ground Crew for making and sharing their incredible British weapons pack. Very nicely modeled bombs in that pack. ________________________ Please refer to the original read me file by Bismarck13 (William Dickens). This is his work, and his rules aplly above all others. For my part...these skins are free ware. Feel free to tweak them to your own liking. Heck, if you want I will be glad to share my paint template if you want to repaint the plane in a way of your choosing...just shoot me a PM with your e-mail address and I will send you the Photoshop 5.0 files (can be used in Paintshop Pro as well). _________________________ Use these files at your own risk. Any loss or damage that may arise from the use of these files is...

I have five FS9 installations......together they come to just over 100 gig of hard drive space. All of my planes have their sounds aliased to a dedicated sound pack folder that sets outside of any of my installs. All of my scenery and mesh files are also outside of any of my installs....nice clean folders set up so that all of my installs can be linked to them. Tim

Hey guys, I know it's a little unusual for me to be asking this type of question...but sources for what I'm researching are extremely limited, and I thought y'all might be able to point me in the right direction. Whilst I am in the midst of working on a few projects, my scattershot mind is starting another one, and I'm struggling to find good sources. I am looking for information on the 20th Fighter Group...the primary operators of the Lockheed P-38 Lightning in the ETO until July of 1944, when they switched to the P-51. 1) They were based at RAF Kings Cliffe. 2) They flew a long-range escort mission to Bordeaux, France at the end of 1943.

Jagd: Forgive me if I'm wrong but I think you can't set wind in Mission Builder (MB). You have to set wind direction and speed in Free Flight (FF) along with altitude. Then you go to the FF section of the cfs2.cfg file and copy the wind data. Lastly, you paste this data in the weather section of the mission .mis file. If you reopen the mission in MB and save it again, the wind zeroizes and you'll have to cut and paste it again. I'm pretty sure this is explained with visual aids in Cody Coyote's Mission Builder Tutorial, found here: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/images/ldm-silk-icons/download.png

In Fort Walton Beach, Florida, the surviving Doolittle Raiders gathered publicly for the last time. They once were among the most universally admired and revered men in the United States. There were 80 of the Raiders in April 1942, when they carried out one of the most courageous and heart-stirring military operations in this nation's history. The mere mention of their unit's name, in those years, would bring tears to the eyes of grateful Americans. Now only four survive. After Japan's sneak attack on Pearl Harbor, with the United States reeling and wounded, something dramatic was needed to turn the war effort around. Even though there were no friendly airfields close enough to Japan for the United States to launch retaliation, a daring plan was devised. Sixteen B-25s were modified so that they could take off from the deck of an aircraft carrier. This had never before been tried -- sending such big, heavy bombers from a carrier. The 16 five-man crews, under the command of Lt. Col. James Doolittle, who himself flew the lead plane off the USS Hornet, knew that they would not be able to return to the carrier. They would have to hit Japan and then hope to make it to China for a safe landing. But on the day of the raid, the Japanese military caught wind of the plan. The Raiders were told that they would have to take off from much farther out in the Pacific Ocean than they had counted on. They were told that because of this they would not have enough fuel to make it to safety. And those men went anyway. They bombed Tokyo, and then flew as far as they could. Four planes crash-landed; 11 more crews bailed out, and three of the Raiders died. Eight more were captured; three were executed. Another died of starvation in a Japanese prison camp. One crew made it to Russia. The Doolittle Raid sent a message from the United States to its enemies, and to the rest of the world: We will fight.

I can't speak for jets, but for prop planes: The aircraft is close to the fantail... set park brake and pull back on the stick (this will help to keep you from "nosing over") while you increase power to full. Hit WEP and release the park brake and ease up on the stick. I have found that stock planes and many downloads do not have significant lift modeled in with the flaps. Ergo, all the flaps do in that case is increase drag and slow you down. Test the plane: while flying level, hit the flaps. Does it stay level or does it rise? If it rises then lift is modeled in with the flaps. If not, do not use flaps on take off. Special case: For 1% planes, follow the checklist and follow instructions on setting trim for take off. :salute: You can also increase the carrier's speed and/or add a headwind to the mission as stated above.

I think I narrowed the problem down to the SU_BF109F_2 and it's sister SU_BF109F_4. This seems to be the common denominator between the three missions where a crash occurs soon after the aircraft come within tracking or visual range. I tried adjusting the underscores _ and capitalization in folder name compared to the .cfg. I even tried original and optional skins, all to no avail. Since Rami and Kdriver can't duplicate the problem, I'm writing it off as another Windows 8 glitch. This ought to make testing the German side missions very interesting, whereas, I am told, these planes are used quite frequently in that campaign. Since this is so, and if I have the same problems again, I'll give up and pick it up with the Italian campaign portion of this set. Moving on...

Without going into extreme detail, Bruce (sc7500) has some major health issues, and goes through what I can only describe as sheer hell to try and maintain a modicum of normalcy, despite his health issues. The treatments he is forced to endure have pretty substantial side effects, including partial blindness, fuzzy vision, and other issues. Until they get things right again, he's taking a break from CFS2 because he can't focus his eyes enough to do any .dp work. I lift him up in prayer frequently, believe me.

Mario, Here is the third mission description...I'm still working on the mission itself. "title_string"=Operation Mezzagosto - A greeting by Der spaten "summary_string"=Achtung, Meine Herren! After gaining intelligence on the fleet's location earlier in the day, we have decided to greet the massive Pedestal convoy with a combined raid of both level & torpedo bombers. Your target is the carrier HMS Indomitable. "objective_string"=Through the early evening of 11 August, 1942, the Pedestal convoy sustained the first significant air attacks of the battle by four successive waves of Axis bombers: thirty Junkers Ju-88s & six He-111 torpedo planes were just one attack. In this raid, no hits were scored on the vessels, and two of the Ju-88s were shot down. "intelligence_string"=The enemy convoy sighted yesterday is now within range of Sardinia. We're prepared to execute the first assault. Take your place in an Heinkel He-111 torpedo bomber and direct your torpedoes toward the enemy carriers. The Ju-88 bombers will attack the remainder of the enemy fleet. Und passen Sie auf sich auf! "player_aircraft_name_string"=Heinkel He-111h-6 "airfield_string"=Sardinia - Elmas

Mario, Here is the scoop for mission two... "title_string"=Operation Mezzagosto - Dreifinger reconnaissance "summary_string"=Kamerad, herhören! After being alerted by French reconnaissance that the enormous Pedestal convoy entered the Mediterranean, we gained intelligence from our own source as to where the Allied convoy should be. Your mission is to find and photograph them. Make sure that you take the pictures and get home without incident! "objective_string"=The Pedestal convoy was identified at about 0830 hours on 11 August, 1942 by a Ju-88 bomber on a reconnaissance mission. Once the Pedestal convoy was spotted, the Axis forces sat & waited for the convoy to get within range of their airbases, then raided it during an evening assault by bomb-laden Ju-88s and torpedo-carrying He-111s. "intelligence_string"=Once airborne, hold a west-southwesterly heading and climb up to a cruising height of 5,500 meters. The estimated convoy position is to the southwest of the Baleric islands. Once over the convoy, hold a steady course and speed as you photograph, but don't stray above 5,700 meters, or the photos will lack detail. Once this is completed, you may return to Sardina. Hals und Beinbruch! "player_aircraft_name_string"=Junkers Ju-88a-11 (Italy, 1941) "airfield_string"=Sardinia - Elmas

Missions 12 and 13 went well. Mission 13 is a turkey shoot, but challenging nonetheless. Except for missions 8, 10 and 11 this concludes the Allied portion of the campaign set. Missions 10 and 11 went the same way as Mission 9. They hung up and crashed as soon as the enemy aircraft spawned in. Rami has said he'll work this out later.

While wolfi's large piers are great for flat spaces with few curves, they just don't offer the same flexibility. You can also create different pier formations and all other kinds of neat tricks!

In English... I just wanted to let you know that I haven't forgotten about doing the Axis side to Pedestal. I can't say I will work on this project at breakneck speed, but Operation Mezzagosto is underway, and I am using the Pedestal missions as a base to "flip" them and turn them into Axis-themed missions. The first is a Vichy French reconnoitre of the convoy just after it enters the Mediterranean...I didn't want to give you something too difficult to start, you know?

Jinx, Sure, but in what context? Are you talking about in Mission Builder, or actual flight characteristics? If it's the latter, the quick and dirty way is to increase the thrust and engine scalars in the .cfg file above 1.0. Otherwise, it can be done by modifying data entries such as empty weight, manifold pressure, horsepower, compression ratio, cylinder displacement, and number of cylinders in the engine.

Mission 6 is now survivable, provided you don't try more than 3 passes. :) Get in, hit hard and get out fast. I found that flying as a wingman, you sometimes "lose" the return waypoint. I did so here and had to fly 21o miles back to base with a heavily damaged bird. A great mission Rami! Now, on to Missions 7 and beyond!

I also included a forested island with a lighthouse, and piers of varying sizes with warehouses, access ramps, and plenty of space for shipping, even for the biggest vessels. Now I have to do the support facilities, including warehouses and such, but we're getting there. Edit: Safari won't let me attach the pictures, but I'll include them when I return home.
