    Hey guys, I know it's a little unusual for me to be asking this type of question...but sources for what I'm researching are extremely limited, and I thought y'all might be able to point me in the right direction. Whilst I am in the midst of working on a few projects, my scattershot mind is starting another one, and I'm struggling to find good sources. I am looking for information on the 20th Fighter Group...the primary operators of the Lockheed P-38 Lightning in the ETO until July of 1944, when they switched to the P-51. 1) They were based at RAF Kings Cliffe. 2) They flew a long-range escort mission to Bordeaux, France at the end of 1943.

    Hey, If you're referring to sc7500, I keep in contact with him on a regular basis. Without going into extreme detail, Bruce (sc7500) has some major health issues, and goes through what I can only describe as sheer hell to try and maintain a modicum of normalcy, despite his health issues. The treatments he is forced to endure have pretty substantial side effects, including partial blindness, fuzzy vision, and other issues. Until they get things right again, he's taking a break from CFS2 because he can't focus his eyes enough to do any .dp work. I lift him up in prayer frequently, believe me.

After gaining intelligence on the fleet's location earlier in the day, we have decided to greet the massive Pedestal convoy with a combined raid of both level & torpedo bombers. Your target is the carrier HMS Indomitable. "objective_string"=Through the early evening of 11 August, 1942, the Pedestal convoy sustained the first significant air attacks of the battle by four successive waves of Axis bombers: thirty Junkers Ju-88s & six He-111 torpedo planes were just one attack. In this raid, no hits were scored on the vessels, and two of the Ju-88s were shot down. "intelligence_string"=The enemy convoy sighted yesterday is now within range of Sardinia. We're prepared to execute the first assault. Take your place in an Heinkel He-111 torpedo bomber and direct your torpedoes toward the enemy carriers.     Mario, Here is the scoop for mission two... "title_string"=Operation Mezzagosto - Dreifinger reconnaissance "summary_string"=Kamerad, herhören! After being alerted by French reconnaissance that the enormous Pedestal convoy entered the Mediterranean, we gained intelligence from our own source as to where the Allied convoy should be. Your mission is to find and photograph them. Make sure that you take the pictures and get home without incident! "objective_string"=The Pedestal convoy was identified at about 0830 hours on 11 August, 1942 by a Ju-88 bomber on a reconnaissance mission. Once the Pedestal convoy was spotted, the Axis forces sat & waited for the convoy to get within range of their airbases, then raided it during an evening assault by bomb-laden Ju-88s and torpedo-carrying He-111s. "intelligence_string"=Once airborne, hold a west-southwesterly heading and climb up to a cruising height of 5,500 meters. The estimated convoy position is to the southwest of the Baleric islands. Once over the convoy, hold a steady course and speed as you photograph, but don't stray above 5,700 meters, or the photos will lack detail. Once this is completed, you may return to Sardina.     Jagdflieger, Thanks! :redface: Considering the quality of your work over the years, I consider that extremely high praise. :salute: I'm come to really appreciate the things you can do with Xavierb's piers in tight spaces, where elevation away from the coast rises quickly. While wolfi's large piers are great for flat spaces with few curves, they just don't offer the same flexibility. You can also create different pier formations and all other kinds of neat tricks!

    Mario, I completed the second mission tonight, but I'm too tired to re-write the mission text. The mission is a second reconnoitre, this time from a German Ju-88 based on Sardinia...higher up at 5,500 meters. After this mission, you will participate in an evening torpedo run onboard a Heinkel He-111.

    Jinx, The props will generate two times as much thrust, making for a better climb rate, increased takeoff performance, and a higher top speed. The downside? Your range will be chopped by half.

    Jinx, Sure, but in what context? Are you talking about in Mission Builder, or actual flight characteristics? If it's the latter, the quick and dirty way is to increase the thrust and engine scalars in the .cfg file above 1.0. Otherwise, it can be done by modifying data entries such as empty weight, manifold pressure, horsepower, compression ratio, cylinder displacement, and number of cylinders in the engine.

    Kdriver, I totally forgot this one; in the Beaus in the Sand campaign best test, Pen32Win gave me a set of revised .dp files to tone down the accuracy and lethality of the ships. I forgot to include it for the Western Desert campaigns. Oops!

I don't want to release it publicly just yet, until Achim releases his revised Norwegian and Icelandic airfields.

    Mark, Here are some pics of the layout for the harbor. It includes a breakwater connecting a barrier island to the mainland, as well as a breakwater to protect the harbor. I also included a forested island with a lighthouse, and piers of varying sizes with warehouses, access ramps, and plenty of space for shipping, even for the biggest vessels. Now I have to do the support facilities, including warehouses and such, but we're getting there. Edit: Safari won't let me attach the pictures, but I'll include them when I return home.

    Jinx, Yes, and between bismarck13 and Baldy, we have a lot of rare "gems" for CFS2. After I finish Mezzagosto, I have a long-dormant surprise from a good friend that I will be working on. He is one of the unheralded geniuses of CFS2, and his work deserves recognition.

    A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Aircraft - German Description: Focke-Wulf FW 189 Uhu for CFS2 by: William Dickens Called the "Flying Eye" of the German army, the Fw 189 succeeded on the Eastern Front beyond the most optimistic predictions. Its superb handling and agility made it a very difficult and elusive target for enemy fighters. Its phenomenal toughness was demonstrated by Fw 189s returning to bases safely with one tail shot or torn off by Soviet ramming attacks.     A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Aircraft - German Description: Ju290-A7 Seeadler for CFS2 by: William Dickens When the Ju 290 replaced the Fw 200 as the Luftwaffe long-range maritime reconnaissance aircraft in the autumn of 1943, the crews were given a far more capable aircraft than the old Focke-Wulf Fw 200 Condor.     A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Aircraft - Other Description: Vultee Vengeance for CFS2 by: William Dickens The Vultee Vengeance was a dive-bomber designed for the RAF, who at the time were impressed with a need for dive-bombers following the early achievements of the German Stuka. The RAAF followed the lead of the RAF, receiving 342 aircraft from 1942, but cancelling the order for a further 58 aircraft in 1944.This aircraft was built in the USA but served in the combat role with the RAF and Indian Air Force in Burma, with the French air force in North Africa and with the Royal Australian Air Force in the Pacific. Developed primarily in response to British interest, Vultee developed a two-seat dive bomber in 1940 which was to become known as the Vengeance. The British Purchasing Commission placed an initial order for 200 aircraft from Vultee along with a further 200 aircraft to be built under license by Northrop. Additional orders then followed. Few of these aircraft actually reached Britain however with almost the entire order being diverted to the Far East for use by RAF, RAAF or Indian Air Force squadrons. A number of aircraft were also retained by the USAAF. In RAF service, Vengeance were operationally employed to good effect in the Burma theatre. As the war progressed, the RAF transferred some Vengeance aircraft to the Fleet Air Arm for use as target tugs. Additionally, some aircraft were used by the RAF in smoke-laying operations. Credits:

However, only about 20 Ar 232s were actually built. The prototype was a twin engine model, but the only production version, the Ar 232B-0, mounted four BMW radials.     A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Aircraft - France Description: Amiot 143 for CFS2 by: William Dickens The first flight of the Amiot 143 was made in August 1934. It was an all-metal cantilever high-wing monoplane with an enclosed pilot's cockpit, manually operated nose and dorsal gun turrets and a large glazed ventral 'balcony' housing the bomb-aimer's position forward and the ventral gunner's position at the rear. The large fixed divided-type undercarriage had wheel spats. The first batch of 50 aircraft was delivered in the winter of 1935-6 to Escadres GB 1/22 and GB 11/22 at Chartres; from aircraft number 31 the fuselage was slightly lengthened. Total production amounted to 138 aircraft. Normal bomb load was 900kg. In August 1939 91 Amiot 143s were still in service with first-line Escadres, 29 with training units and six in storage. Up to 10 May French night raiders had been carrying only leaflets, but from then on until the French surrender Amiot 143s dropped a total of 528 tonnes of bombs in night raids. However, Amiot 143s are best remembered for their heroic mission of 14 May 1940 when, with fighter escort, they attacked the heavily defended bridges at Sedan during daylight hours. The aircraft of the 34å and 38å Escadres bombed from an altitude of 800m. Four aircraft were lost in action and all the rest seriously damaged.     A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Aircraft - France Description: Bloch MB210 for CFS2 Original CFS1 Model by Alain Breton Modified for CFS2 by William Dickens. About the CFS2 Model: This aircraft is an update of Alain Breton's beautiful CFS1 model. Most of the aircraft reamins unchanged from the original. What has been added are detailed engines, crew members, new landing gear and gear wells, some "eye candy" like air scoops and exhaust. The model also has breaking parts and a first for a "WD" release: a Virtual Cockpit with working gauges! The real aircraft: The Bloch 210.01 prototype flew for the first time in June 1934. It was intended as a twin-float seaplane bomber for the French Navy. A second prototype was designated Bloch 211 N°1 Verdun. Following tests, the production version was ordered as the Bloch 210. A cantilever low-wing monoplane which retained the angular lines of the high-wing Bloch 200, the Bloch 210 was powered by two 678kW Gnome-Rhone 14N engines and had a retractable landing gear, the main units of which retracted into the engine nacelles. Armament comprised single 7.5mm MAC machine-guns in a nose turret and semi-retractable dorsal and ventral positions. Maximum bomb load was 1,730kg. The first production machine flew on 10 December 1935. A total of 283 were eventually built for the Armee de l'Air, with which they served in the BN5 (five-crew night bomber) category. Final deliveries to the air force were made in February 1939, by which time the aircraft was obsolete.

    A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Aircraft - British Description: File ID: Bristol Bombay for CFS2 by: William Dickens The Bombay was built to the Air Ministry Specification C.26/31 for a monoplane aircraft which could carry bombs or 24 troops. Despite the all-metal construction, the Bombay retained some features which were outdated at the time, such as its fixed undercarriage. Outclassed for the European theatre, it saw service in the Middle East, replacing the Vickers Valentia. Credits: The model, dp and textures are by William Dickens

    Hey guys, I finally have the intelligence I needed to fix the Junkers Ju-88A-4 and A-11 series aircraft's fuel capacity. I have included files for the A-11, the desert model, since I think I will finish up Mezzagosto before going back to the Balkans project. This same fuel load can be used for the A-4 model using AirEd. The Ju-88 has a tendency to "eat" fuel, so I did some research with the help of my kamaraden at the Axis History Forum. http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=197853&p=1792222#p1792222 Not only did the Ju-88 have a 1,220 liter optional tank in the front bay, she also had a 680 liter optional tank in the rear bay. With this configuration of both fuselage tanks, the Ju-88 finally has the "legs" to fly a long-range reconnaissance over the Pedestal convoy from Sardinia.

    Jinx, 1) Use the AirEd version I put in the "Baltimore update" thread. 2) Look at the post where I made the changes to the numbers. 3) You can use those steps to literally go line-by-line. 4) The aircraft.cfg can be opened by a program like "notepad" in Windows. Look for the "thrust_scalar" line.

    Jinx, I have a few things to point out here. First, Allen updated the aircraft, and did a lot of very positive things. So let's thank him properly. Second, Allen even stated that he was uploading the GMAX source files to SOH, so that if possible, work can be done on cockpit and flap animations, as well as perhaps some smoothing of the original model. Considering the state of the original model, Allen did a nice job. Third...yes, the paint job is sub-par, but again, Allen's job was to update the model. If you don't like the paint scheme, you have a couple of options. You can find a painting program and do the work yourself, and then share your creations with the rest of us. (Or not) Second, you can make nice with one of our repainters and see if they'd be willing to labor on your behalf to give you a paint scheme more to your liking.

    Jinx, Not to sound teacher-ish and condescending, but the way I learned how to do this stuff was trial and error, and by taking the time to learn how to do it on my own. If you follow the instructions I left in the Baltimore thread and used AirEd, you should be fine.

    Hey guys, I have some tips for you on how to improve the performance of the Martin Baltimore. 1) In the aircraft.cfg under "thrust_scalar," change it from 0.67 to 1.0 2) In the airfile, using AirEd under entry "1101 - Primary Aerodynamics," under "empty weight," change the number to 15,991 lbs. 3) In the airfile, using AirEd under entry 505 "Engine CFS/FS2000 Piston Engine," change the displacement per cylinder to 185.992857

    Shadow Wolf, Yeah...you have to adjust the exhaust effects placement in the "extras / effects" section of the .dp file. It's exactly like doing .dp adjustments for weapons.
