There's been a few proggys on the TV about it and a radio2 broadcast tommorow night which sounds very good. Have managed to miss all of it so far and am out tommorow! :( Thank goodness for Iplayer and catchup tv! I wanted to get the Dambusters cfs3 pack improved but ran out of time this year. With the coming of the Alphasim CFS2 source model we have something to work on for a future anniversary.... (the current one has incorrect lamps etc.) We need more bods willing to get their hands dirty! :)

Thanks fella's! Not sure how this makes my understanding of a possible solution better ;), but I guess I have to put some more effort in learning the spawn-thing ;-)

Yes I think you're right Pete now I come to think about it, definatley have seen Mathias' Walrus model and someone had a nearly finished Fury/Hart. The Bulldog is coming along quite quickly, it's great being able to start with an almost complete fully textured model! am working on the 'pit at present then need to add damageboxes, emmiters, end caps and Lods. Shouldn't be more than a few weeks. :) I want to get their set of pre war RAF types up and flying.

This is the beastie, would make a good ai model once the animation and props are sorted. Anyone care to take it on? :)

Do we have an HE115 in cfs3? I can't find one and there's a useable CFS1 Alphasim model which I have. At present working on the Bulldog, then there's a Hart, Hind, Felixstowe and Heyford ripe for conversion too. :)

No, there's something coded into cfs3 methinks. If you start in the air in qc you'll see the animation but not from a runway start. Would love to be shown differently!

Yes that ones converted ok, too many models and too little time at the moment! :( Maybe one we can come back to sometime if someone was prepared to do all the files required.

It's a stock one. Yes that ones eluding me too at the moment, I think its a coded thing. Yes I had a go at getting some Spits taking off and buzzing around Biggin Hill. Have been sidetracked by all those lovely Alphasim models at the moment but some attacking bombers would be good, Lympne and Manston and Hawkinge all got plastered but then again all the southern bases did!

Hi guys, I am experimenting with a tractor/trailer combination on a facility. I would like to have a tractor tow a trailer, as a loc does with railcars. The SDKs mention nodes on the models named 'tow' and 'hitch' which I can add. I also remember seeing a flak gun being towed by a truck in MAW. I would like to do something similar but I need to know how this is done: a) Can I set up this tractor to tow a trailer on a facility file so that they follow a spline (as moving vehicles do on airfields etc.)? If yes, how do I set this up in the facility .xml? Trains seem to added through spawns. A recent thread (taxiing aircraft) mentions spawns for facilities. b) If the above does not work, can the tractor/trailer combo be added through a spawn? How does one make it follow the spline on the facility in a spawn file?

yes that's true, trouble is the number of modellers active in cfs3 can be counted on one hand I think. :( Here's the Alphasim B17G in gmax. Took about an hour to get this far, this will become one of the taxiing a/c models. Some convert better than others, this one's not bad, just missing the props. These models also come with crews which could be used elsewhere in cfs3.

I was wondering why everything was so quiet... Hi Craig, good to see you again! We've just released a new Blenheim IV, of which at least two versions can be used in BoF. Have fun!

Hi Craig, yes just a few of us left now! I agree with Daniel, the W40 stuff is in regular use on my installs and they would be much poorer without them. Was thinking of you the other day actually, did you make the animated troops? Cheers!

Excellent! I think that seals t then. :) There's not a lot that we don't have already and what we do have is pretty bloomin' fantastic, especally the Wellington and Halifaxes - albeit the Halifax is a little wrong around the starboard cockpit side. Not easy to convert but do-able. I wish I'd seen their Tiggie before embarking on my model, it's much better!

This is from the readme of the Gypsy Moth but I think it applies to all models (will check): COPYRIGHT INFORMATION These files are freeware. Please amend/distribute as you see fit. They are unsupported, so please do not e-mail us if you have problems. Under no circumstances may these files be sold or uploaded to a payware site or any kind of illegal warez site. I would think that means that we can convert them and distribute as freeware.

There was no file gosd, it was a dead link to their site. I've found all the old fs02/cfs2/fs9 models which are now freeware: http://www.virtavia.com/Freeware/index.php I've converted some of the mdl's from these to 3ds using modelconverterx (for my own future use), there's some useful stuff here such as the Lockheed Harpoon which could become a Hudson with a bit of work and also a mk47 Seafire :) The list also contains a lot of paintkits too.

Hi panzer, I'm afraid gosd is right, it's down to the readme.txt file :) . That package only contains missions so you can safely remove them from the install without adverse affects. Or....if you want to use them in the ETO install open the missions in notepad and edit all of the aircraft for types you do have. For example; change <Unit ID="9429" Type="bob_spit_54" Skill="1" Payload="0"/> to: <Unit ID="9429" Type="spit_MkIa" Skill="1" Payload="0"/>

Hi Dave, glad to see the mossie hasn't lost out to the Buffalo, but I understand that a change is as good as a rest. As I type we're on our way home from visiting visiting the Mosquito Museum (or should I say DHAHC). This time I took both kids and I'm pleased to say they enjoyed it. The volunteers are so friendly and had time for them. I also bit the bullet and became member of the museum. Once again I spent time carressing the B.35. I was also able to see the work on the FBVI progressing. I bought a couple of second hand books too. A good day!

Glad you like them - I'll see what else I've got. Anything in particular?
Meanwhile work has started up again... This last couple of days has been frantic!

Get it done now before the flap begins! They're not the most detailed - you could do with cuts of the fuselage as well - but they're somewhere to start.

Can you let me have your e-mail address? And I'll get on with it tomorrow if I get the chance. Got the builders in on Monday so we've got loads of furniture and things to move round in the meantime...

PS Very glad you're doing both versions - And I'll certainly do RAF, RNethAF and Finnish ones happily. I don't know much about USN/USMC ones, but it'd be easy enough to find out.

Wheels - viewed from the front, my 1/48th plan gives the distance between the wheels, measured from the inside wall of the tyre, as smack-bang 5cm. That gives you 2.40 metres real size.

I'm using the 1/48th plans in the Osprey Buffalo Aces book - that's more reliable than measuring off a model. If you don't have them, I'll scan them and stick them in the mail. They are fine for basic skinning but may not be that good for modelling. Other than that, I'll be relying on the Tamiya kit.

If you're using the ETO site, we have a double problem - A. I don't have access as I and all the other West 40 people were dropped from the team (behind our backs, at that!) once they'd got everything off us that we had to hand at the time, and B. As a result, I won't work on anything for ETO or allow any more of my work to be used in ETO... I hope that isn't a problem for you... You missed the fighting. Basically, they pissed off a lot of useful people here on SOH (start with Rene, Viso, me, Loic and others...) although I tend to be the only one to tell them to stuff off publicly.

I'd love to get my hands on a Buffalo! And my mate from down the road is making one in 3DS MAX which he wants to port over later. Not sure if that's as easy as he thinks, so it'll probably never see the light of day. But yes, when yours is ready, I'd be more than happy to do it. I've even got a couple of model 1/48th ones to use for reference, and a couple of books with loads of profiles. That's how I work best! Which model will it be?
If you can get John to do the cockpit, though it might be an idea. He does them miles better than I do!
  9. Hi Nigel,
Thats ok matey, i know how busy you job can get so no worries.

John has said he will do a texture etc for the mossie but i hear your a fan of the buffalo .....
so how would you like to do the textures for that if i throw you the wireframe over to you nearer
completion of exterior. I have the fuselage almost completed and i'm just on with the getting the wings sorted.

Your a good mate n glad your out there to help.
    Dave

Hi Dave - I'm kicking myself about not doing that Mossie. It keeps coming back and niggling at me... Do you still need a hand? I can't accept any deadlines at the moment because of teaching starting up again soon, but I'd like to contribute somewhere!

Hope all's well and the family's fine!

    Cheers, Nigel
