This package has been modified by the SOH librarian emeritus on 16 April, 2024 to include the following update by Gavin:
This from Gavin; Here is my final update to the Salamander.
The zip file contains an updated external model that corrects the rudder and nose gear animations. I have also included a fresnel ramp map and a specular texture for the canopy, please feel free to adjust them to your hearts content.
.dds files go into the texture folder and the mdl overwrites the current file in the model folder.
Thanks Gavin!

The Heinkel He 162 Volksjäger (German, "People's Fighter") was a German single-engine, jet-powered fighter aircraft fielded by the Luftwaffe late in World War II. Developed under the Emergency Fighter Program, it was designed and built quickly and made primarily of wood as metals were in very short supply and prioritized for other aircraft.
First flight with the Regia Aeronautica in January 1938. Had rounded nose, two engines, low-slung fuselage, wings with a very long chord. They were fitted with 1,000 hp Piaggio P.XI RC.40 engines, Piaggio P.1001 3-blade metal propeller. Only a few were used by Regia Aeronautica, the rest sold to Hungarian Airforce in Russian front.

The Bloch 131 was developed from Bloch 130.01 Guynemer prototype. It flew in July 1934 and was completely redesigned, with a glazed nose and tall single fin and rudder, and powered by two 708kW Gnome-Rhone 14N radial engines. A retractable undercarriage was fitted. Armament comprised 7.5mm machine-guns in nose, dorsal turret and ventral positions. One hundred and thirty-nine production Bloch 131 were built for the Armee de l'Air in the RB4 category as four-crew machines intended for bombing and reconnaissance.
The first six aircraft were delivered by June 1938, the rest by September 1939. Most went to Reconnaissance Groupes, suffering heavy losses at the beginning of the 'Phoney War' period. From October 1939 the type was used only for occasional night missions and for training. The max bomb load in various combinations was 800kg. Following France's capitulation, the Vichy regime used surviving Bloch 131s for target-towing. This is Alain Breton old mdl reworked by A.F.Scrub for CFS2 / FS8 / FS9 flight sims.
The idea to produce a new fighter for the Red Army Air Force went as far back as 1941. It was then that the Yakovlev Design Bureau presented the I-30 prototype, intended as an alternative to the earlier Yak-1 design. However, the German invasion of the USSR, as well as aluminum shortages, meant that the project had to be put on hold. Yakovlev resumed the development in 1943 while working on an upgraded version of the Yak-1 fighter. This time, it was decided that a new aircraft should be produced to completely replace the Yak-1 and Yak-7 models. The wings and rear fuselage were skinned with plywood for a smooth finish. The new machine was dubbed as the Yak-3 and entered service with the Red Army Air Force in June, 1944.
The Yak-3 fighter quickly became very popular with Soviet pilots. They highly praised its ease of piloting and superb low-altitude performance. As a small. light, fast and highly-maneuverable aircraft up to 12,000 feet with limited range ( 1 hour duration) and firepower, the Yak-3 was used almost exclusively as low-altitude tactical fighter. Escort missions for bombers and ground-attack aircraft were reserved for the Yak-3’s big brother: The Yak-9D. By mid-1946 4,848 had been built.
1 x 20 mm ShVAK cannon, nose-mounted (120 rpg)
2 x 12.7 mm Berezin UB machine guns, nose-mounted (150 rpg = 300 total)
