FS2004 Phalsbourg-Bourscheld Air Base (LFQP) 1955-1962
Number 5 in the series USAFE French Air Bases
From 1950 to 1967 the USAF set up and maintained bases in France, with the agreement of the French government, as part of its commitment to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Phalsbourg AB was one of the ten main air bases which supported both attack and air defence capabilities. Many people do not appreciate the sheer extent of the USAF bases in France at this time and the reasons leading to the USAF departure in 1967.
This scenery and traffic depicts Phalsbourg AB as it was in the mid 50s when it first became active to the early 60s. It includes 4 Traffic files depicting aircraft and squadrons present in 1957 (23rd Helicopter Squadron Flying the CH-23 Shawnee), 1958 (RF-84F Thunderflash and F-86D Sabre Dog), 1959 (RF-101C Voodos and F-86D) and 1962 Depicting the Massachusetts Air National Guard 102nd Tactical Fighter Wing and its three fighter squadrons, the 101st, 131st, and 138th Flying the F-86H. All but the F-101's custom painted by DeltaDart. Various other support aircraft present as well. By Al Von Pingel
This package contains alternative textures for the ex-donationware P-51C Malcolm hood version (now freeware), which can be found in the Sim-Outhouse libary. Although the textures are done for the FS9 version, they will work on the more or less identical CFS2 version as well. The textures are based on the paintkit by David Green.
The texture show the Mustang III FX855 as in was used by 541 squadron over Europe between June 1944 and May 1945.
Between June 44 and May 45, 541 Squadron used 3 Mustang Mk.III's, alongside Spit PRX, XI and XIX. These planes were transferred from other RAF squadrons shortly before D-Day and were equipped with two side-facing cameras. One of the cameras was mounted behind the pilot like other RAF photo recon Mustangs, but there was another camera mounted behind the radiator in a mount very similar to that used on the USAAF's F-6C. They were repainted in RAF PRU blue by 541 Sqn and had the full set of AEAF (Allied Expeditionary Air Force) stripes applied. Serial numbers were FX855 (from 315 Sqn), FX952 (from 129 Sqn) and HB837 (from 617 Sqn).
I want to thank the Anthony "Gramps" Sullenger and the rest of the FDG2 team for creating this model and donating it to the Sim-Outhouse. And of course Martin Wright for his simple but indispensable graphic tools, as without his dtx1 bitmap manipulator these textures simply wouldn't be there.
This zip contains a range of smoke damage & smokescreen objects for use as eye-candy when writing missions.
The most useful are configured as vehicle objects, so can appear to be "mobile", & can be spawned using triggers & events in your missions.
The original idea of an invisible object carrying a smoke effect was inspired by Skylane's predam objects.
Configuring some of them as vehicles, so they could be triggered, spawned & mobile during a mission was influenced by Talon & the AF teams work on the volcano object used in the Battle of Bismarck Sea pack.
The effect files owe much to the original work carried out by Nanni & Blade back in 2002-2005.
smokescreen_UT
==============
An invisible vehicle carrying a smokescreen effect. When spawned, can act as though your destroyers have been instructed to lay smoke.
Smokefield_XXL_UT
=================
Configured in the same way as the smokescreen vehicle, but much larger. Intended as a way of representing the large target obscuring smokefields generated by smokepots around high value targets. This effect needs more work, it is rather basic.
predam_oilfiresXXL_UT
======================
This quickly generates a large, high plume of black oily smoke, reaching 1400-1500ft. Configured as a vehicle, so can move with a target that is meant to have suffered damage prior to your mission start, without needing a separate, pre-damaged ship model.
I've also provided static infrastructure versions of oilfiresXXL & smokefield_XXL, in case it's found this object configuration is more useful.
inf_predam_smoke_XXL_UT
=======================
Similar to the oilfiresXXL effect, but larger & taller. The smoke plume reaches 1,800 - 2,000ft.
inf_predam_smoke_XXXL_UT
========================
Similar to smoke_XXL, but larger still, with the smoke plume billowing up to 3000ft.
To install, unzip the download to a temporary location & move/ copy files to the matching folder names inside your chosen CFS 2 install.

This B-26C of the 11th Air Force (later Alaska Air Command) was photographed at Ladd Air Force Base in the late 1940s. The absence of unit markings and the lack of any light bomber units based in Alaska in the late 1940s implies that it must have been a hack rather than a mission aircraft. It was photographed on a ramp with some Northrop F-61 Black Widows of the 449th Fighter Squadron (All Weather) and may have belonged to that unit.
Painted by Mick from a photo in the Journal of the American Aviation Historical Society.
County class destroyer HMS Devonshire. The ship was armed with Sea Slug and Sea Cat missiles and was launched in 1960. It carried one Westland Wessex helicopter. The FS-model is very detailed and has many animations like take off and landings of the Wessex heli or the launch of two Sea Slug missiles. Nineteen cameras let you explore the whole ship or watch the animations. The effects allows you to fire the main guns to starboard and port seperatly. In FSX the upgraded model showes slightly shiny textures which will not work in P3d and which are not tested in FS2004.
The model is supposed to sail also in FS2004 but the boat and its effects are not tested.
An ai-model with a helicopters parked on the heli deck and a second one which flies circles arround the ai-vessel is included.
This ai-boat is supposed to be used with ai-carriers2 (config example included) or for ai-traffic.
