Ladies and gentlemen! Once again it's time for the brave and foolhardy to step to the plate! :icon_lol: To help us keep track of SOH members who can support the 2010 Round the World Race Team effort we'd like to keep a database of a) pilots and b) other crew. Not a lot of data required, but it will help us gather people together as the time approaches. If you aren't sure now about your time now, still feel free to sign up and we can work it out as we go along - or add your name and data...
The RTWR Executive Committee today announces the 2010 Flight Simulator Around-The-World Race. It is our pleasure to invite the same teams that made last year's race our most competitive ever to join us again in 2010; pilots who competed with the now-defunct FS-MP.com will be competing from their new home at iFlyOnline.com. Any interested pilots should visit the discussion forums of the team of their choice for information on joining and guidance on preparation for the race. Team members and...
Please all Team Members Read Below. The testing I did this year lead me to realize that many people do not have all of the ports that need to be open set in their routers. All instructions below refer to DSL or Cable connections. Dial up connections should not have Port Forwarding issues as you are connected to the internet directly. We refer to that as a truly Pants Down Internet Connection. Setting your router First Disclaimer: While messing around in your DSL Modem you...
Between server crashes/hacks and a year gone by, a lot of the basic hints and ideas that have been shared among the RTW community have disappeared from the Outhouse. With a bit of digging in my own files and the other teams' websites I present a compilation of "the Basics" In this installment (RTW-101 -- The Racer's Computer) we'll go over some of the principles of setting up and maintaining your computer for Round the World Racing. Where possible, credit has been listed or names retained to...

http://sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?p=342702 We could be getting our own FS Host server and a TeamSpeak server. :applause: That would solve all of our Bandwidth issues with TeamSpeak. Happy Days :icon_lol: Which means I will shut my FS Host and Team speak down.
Dear RTW Race Committee, As February 2010 draws near, and we start, once again, to think about the RTW Race, I have a few thoughts I would like to share with you Makers of Rules. This letter is not the result of collaboration with nor encouragement from my team mates. It's just me jabber-jawing on about a couple of things rattling around in my head. I've been involved in this event since SOH's first year as a participant in 2005. I think two things have gotten slightly “out of control”...
General Rules Overview: This is a Race Around Africa. The Start is near the center of the continent, then Groups will proceed to a coastal point (of your choosing) on the Route, thence around the continent (clockwise or counter-clockwise) until the circumnavigation is complete, and then inward to the Finish (same as the start location). Aircraft allowed are as in the RTWR Rules of 2009, separated into 5 Classes (2 default classes with additions; regular RTWR race a/c; subsonic jets;...
It's that time of the year again! Enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6BKUGgOz4-Y
Don't know if I have the latest version. Seemed to work okay, but it had trouble recognizing I had Real Weather set for the flight. Took Duenna a few minutes to sort that out, is that normal? Sorry, accidentally closed Duenna before taking screenshot of map.
completed leg 1 segs-se0e. scientists aboard, weird boxes too.
Hey All, Leg 1 in the books. This is a really really good plane - Falcon 3-holers are my favorite - only thing is on my computer the throttles on this plane stick. Came all the way down from 40,000 on full throttle - luckily the dive brakes work well. I then had to do some steep climbs near the ground to get the flaps down and gear out an then land at 160 or so knots. As I hit the runway the throttles unstuck. Don't know if the brakes would have stopped me or not. All the messing around I...
Well, flying(obviously!) & not even for New year, let alone Xmas,so with apologies to Chris Rea,I took off to fetch the waiting science bods. The RAN helped(there was talk of the scientists discovering a new type of shrimp to throw on the barbie, so we went to get them in an SH-60. Uneventful flight, although the wind got up for the 2nd leg. Duenna shows an odd landing field for some reason on the 1st flight, although SEII is the only one there,so I was in the right spot
yesterday, I downloaded and installed Plan-G. even though is runs very slow on my machine and I am in the learning curve of its potential, I am having a lot of fun with it. one of the things that I have come across is the airspace feature. during the Race, what procedures do we follow regarding Special Use 1 & 2 Airspace? do we fly around them or is it alright to fly through them? can we expect a brace of SAMs if we enter? :pop4:
My birthday is this weekend, but I decided to give a gift to everyone else. It's a video dedicated to the 1949 Evita Race that took place at SOH last summer. Enjoy! https://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=batch_download&send_id=797218438&email=9632d27905c54db370d32e965d31e637 (This link will only work for seven days, and I do not intend to upload this to YouTube. It's a limited time offer, so get it while you can!)
In an effort to improve the 2010 RTWR, we are soliciting feedback on the rules via our forum. A poll has been posted asking whether pilots prefer simple rules or variety in the race. Please visit http://www.fsrtwrace.com/forum.htm to share your thoughts and preferences. Thanks! Matt
Here's a little exercise to give you something to do over the holiday. It can be run on your own time, online or not, without scoring, penalties or oversight. Duenna should be used to simulate racing conditions but results need not be posted in the forum. Should you wish to brag or whine about the trip a summary post can be made after you complete the trip ( and intervening events, crashes or laptop-induced overflights) listing the legs, types flown and times. Long periods of...
Off to pick up the white coats in SE0E. Sikorsky CH-53.
Best wishes for a "Fine and Dandy" Christmas to all of the members of SOH and their familys. Warm regards, :santahat:
Well, this is the only Helicopter on the island, so I couldn't be picky! The Canadian Air Force let me borrow it for a couple hours. Well, maybe “borrow” isn't 100% technically accurate. But I will bring it back! I think it has enough seats too. The weather started out very hazy at dawn, when we left SEGS and headed south west. By the time we got to Isabela, the mist had already burned away, and the visibility at SEII was fine. Saw no iguanadons on the runway, but the “scientists”...
The flight out to Seymore has been completed, duenna crashed but here's a screenie of the flight analysis. The citation X is a dream to fly but takes some work to get her up to 50K ft. Landed on vapors, but guests are here so while the crew fuels up the chopper, I'm gonna eat and make merry. t/o time- 10:52:15 Land time 16:53:06 I make it about 3250 miles
is it legal for me--in this exercise-- to pause a duenna flight so I dont have to sit for 8 hrs in one go? Got family here, cant do it all at once. opinions sought. fish-pirates antsy to get out of the galapagos....hmmm..wonder why? thanks, brady
The masochist in me decideded to take the VC10 from Monterrey to Seymour. Then a nice little shuttle flight in piglet's MIL.
Well, I tried working out the rules, but gave up. I'll be using my interpretation of the rules... :isadizzy: First task of fetching the scientists is complete - I used a Chinook. Plenty big enough for whatever cargo they needed to bring along with them. In FSX I flew to Isabella (SEII) which I reckoned was the right place. Duenna reported it as Z09H when I landed, and as SE0E when I departed. Strange.
EGUN Mildenhall - LFPB Paris Le Bourget Yippee! Let's get rolling...
