Three years after the start of this project the complete package "Global AI Ship Traffic V1" is now available on www.avsim.com (http://www.avsim.com), www.simviation.com (http://www.simviation.com), and www.flightsim.com (http://www.flightsim.com)

Except if you have problems downloading big files you can now forget all the previous files. The new package "Global AI Ship Traffic" includes all files and corrections published in the project previous to April 2016. In total the new package contains more than 600 ships and AI routes covering almost all coastal areas of the globe.

The new package is compatible with FSX and P3D at least until Version 3.2. Some files will display better in one than the other sim, but all files can be used in both.

If you have the ships installed already, but you are unsure if you have all corrections etc, you can easily update using this new package. Only small thing - please remove the folder "AI_Hyundai_Container" from your old installation before pasting the new files. The rest of the files can just be overwritten.

The package contains models, textures, and effects by Henrik Nielsen, Jean-Pierre Fillion, Erwin Welker, Knud Kristoffersen, Milton Shupe, Manfred Siedler, Bernardo Barroso, Paul Donnelly, Finn Kristoffer, Didier Puentes, Andrew Thomsen, Antonio Diaz, Sebastien Viale, Alberto Garcia, and Robystar.

I would like to thank all of you for your contributions to the project.

Hi Steph,
Sorry for being slow in responding. The Lynx is the Alphasim from FS2004 - it does not behave too well in P3D but it is the best I have for the Danish Navy ships. The texture is done by Knud who has also done repaints for the ships. It is not shared publicly but I will ask him if I can share it with you.
Best regards
Henrik

The next model has left the virtual shipyard - the MSC Zoe - at the moment the largest containership in the world measured in container capacity.

Looking really good Henrik! I think you've pretty much covered the major worldwide boxship players now. My oceans are busy and I love how it looks.

I really need to sit down and do those small double ended ferry routes for Greece I was thinking of.

UASC Al Mukrayh is still missing to have the whole bunch of 400 meter box ships - but I might turn to something else than containerships now - I was looking at the Superflex ferries - at least one is apparently sailing in Greece http://www.faergelejet.dk/skibais.php?id=458&n=5 and others in the Baltic http://www.faergelejet.dk/skibais.php?id=172&n=3 and the Caribbean http://www.faergelejet.dk/skibais.php?id=467&n=5 ships with potential for repaints and use across the globe are always high on my list.

And then you know there is a small drill ship in the plans also :)

Sorry, but it seems like I had turned off notifications - L'Express Des Iles is so far not included - I will take a look to see if I can find some drawings.

Below what I guess is the first North Korean ship in P3D - the Dae San - it's career includes everything from almost sinking near Oman to being brought up by the Somalian coast guard...

Hi - yes it does, I have done some from the US Navy and USCG e.g. the USS Bainbridge and USS Pinckney and there are more navy contributions from other designers like Alberto Garcia - you will find them on patrols e.g. in the Persian Gulf, sailing in and out of several US Navy bases, on patrol with other allied Navy ships from e.g. France, Canada, Denmark, and Norway in the Atlantic etc - you will also find the USS Halyburton and USS Bainbridge on a mission rescuing Captain Phillips from the Maersk Alabama off the coast of Somalia. Apart from that there are Navy ships from a number of other countries e.g. several Brazilian navy vessels. At the moment I am working on adding navy ships from Mexico, Egypt, Turkey, Thailand, Chile, and Brazil plus recreating an 80'ies version of the STANAVFORLANT including Jagl04's Knox Class and a new version of the British Broadsword class, which is being started in my virtual shipyard today.

Wow! It was nice movie also (2013): Captain Phillips. CRG!

I think I got tired before getting everything into the manual when I launched the combined total pack so the instructions on where to find the Maersk Alabama are only included in the manual to the package 179 AI Ships and AI Ship Traffic, so I will repeat them here as the routes and ships are also in the global package available here http://library.avsim.net/download.php?DLID=194715

The hijacking of Maersk Alabama

On April 8th 2009 the US registred Maersk Alabama was hijacked by Somalian pirates in the Indian Ocean – the dramatic story was later turned into the brilliant movie "Captain Phillips" with Tom Hanks – and now it is also in FSX. You can find three different situations from the hijacking North East of Mogadishu and if you have a powerful helicopter you can prevent the lifeboat from reaching shore… simply blow it to a halt… The three situations are put closer to shore than in real world – but the first two follows the quite closely the coordinates from the movie – the third has only some vague indications in the movie, so I just put it further North closer towards the pirate strong hold of Eyl. You will find more pirate action further to the North near Eyl and Ras Hafun.

http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/attachment.php?attachmentid=39594&stc=1

In order to find the ships you can depart from Mogadishu in easterly direction

http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/attachment.php?attachmentid=39593&stc=1

The pirates makes their first attempt to hijack the Maersk Alabama - it takes place every day at 12:50 GMT at 2°2´North and 49°20’ E – the second and more successful attack takes place every day at 12:30 GMT at 2°4´North and 46°12’ E

http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/attachment.php?attachmentid=39595&stc=1

The cavalry arrives at dawn everyday at around 03:00 – 03:20 GMT in the area around 3°10´North and 47°20’ E – USS Bainbridge comes to the rescue of Captain Phillips who is kept hostage in the lifeboat. Shortly after the USS Halyburton will also show up. No time for doing the USS Boxer which was also involved in the rescue in real life, but if you have the Aerosoft Jayhawk & Seahawk you will already have the USS Boxer and can place it there

We are actually quite close - Erwin Welker already did some German Navy ships from the period and combining Alberto's and my ships we will get there - the merchant ships above are also from that time, so it will be possible to do some typical scenes from that period.

Hello kl791,

Do You have a plan to add all this files in the one package?
Here is good place for this: https://www.mediafire.com/ I think.

btw. which wave effect You can advice according Your experience for carrier, medium ship (like tanker or cruiser) and for destroyer for P3Dv3?

In some old addons I have a problem with this (or it's missed) in P3D so perhaps its a good idea to change this effects manually.

btw. nice effects :

Hi
All the ships are already in one file at Avsim; flightsim and simviation. It is very compressed as the uncompressed size is 1.7 GB...

Regards to the wakes - not two of my wakes are the same. Normally they are built from a combination of fx_wake_l and fx_wake_xl, light effects, a smoke effect, and a spray - all positioned in the respective places to have just one effect pr ship - below the effect used for the SD14 models.

I will do a British version with Exocet MM38 later - the two remaining Brazilian ships has had a couple of changes in the armament compared to the original versions. But now this one has to get out sailing first.

HMS Broadsword now ready in in Royal Navy version with the characteristic chimney and the RIBs swopped to a classic lifeboat and with Exocet MM38 instead of the MM40... She will look nice together with Jagl04's Knox class.

Well, all active versions from Batch 1 and 2 with their respective present configurations in the Brazilian, Romanian, and Chilean navies are now done plus HMS Broadsword from Batch 1, HMS London and HMS Coventry from Batch 2 as they were sometime in the late 80'ies - next up HMS Cornwall from Batch 3.

I'm really liking what you have done with the drill ship.
With the expert modeling and texturing I would guess you have done other types of rigs..?
Any chance you could show what they look like and if they are available as separate AI ships that
AI Carrier could handle..? :applause:

I spent time working on offshore rigs so I have a fascination about offshore equipment.
I was watching a TV show about the Maersk Interceptor last night, impressive.

If not as separate AI ships would you consider placing some of your rigs in static scenery locations.?
Maybe the Rowan Gorilla with legs down in operations mode..?

As oil rigs are not making money sailing but being static drilling I might consider to do some scenery with rigs positioned once I have a few more models - it also give options to create traffic with shuttle tankers and PSV's - Maersk Interceptor is actually also somewhere on my construction list... For those who don't know it take a look here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DucDg-0nQfg

After spending a lot of hours on modelling the least part is actually the positioning of the models however it will not be with exact real life positions as I do not have access to these for the mobile drilling units.

And well the model progress a bit this morning :)

As three of these and probably a fourth one soon are laid up in the gulf of Eleusis near Salamina in Greece, including the Olympia, it would be nice to place them as statics. Actually, the current crisis has led a lot of ships to be laid up so I may use your models to lay them up in rows in the bay. I often fly over them and got pics of how they are moored.

Great model Henrik! I appreciate the amount of work needed on such a complex ship.

Great model Henrik! I appreciate the amount of work needed on such a complex ship.

Hi
Sorry for being slow in responding - you should soon be able to receive the static versions. I just finalized the texture sheet and very little modelling is left.

You are welcome :encouragement: This project has taught me a lot when I have been searching for documentation - and the Great Lakes was a completely unknown area to me before. But looking at the variety of ships, looking at their routes, their cargo, and histories was a great learning experience.

These ships are some incredible pieces of engineering.

Saw this as I was Googling.
Cyprus-based Ocean Rig has stepped in to buy the sixth generation ultra-deepwater (UDW) drillship Cerrado, which once drilled the giant Libra prospect offshore Brazil, following its owner Brazil-based Schahin Group bankruptcy declaration last April. Ocean Rig paid US$65 million at auction for the UDW drillship, which was built at Samsung Heavy Industries' Geoje, South Korea, yard in 2011. Upon delivery, the ship will now be renamed Ocean Rig Paros. The Cerrado is a S10000E design, which is the same model as Ocean Rig's UDW drillships Ocean Rig Olympia, also built in 2011, and the Ocean Rig Athena, built in 2014, both at the same yard. However, the Cerrado can operate at a maximum 10,000ft water depth and can drill to a maximum depth of 40,000ft. Its dimensions are 748ft x 137.7ft x 39.3ft. Cost new around 600 million.

Unfortunately the low price of oil has hit the offshore industry hard and almost all of these magnificent ships are now out of work. Their drilling contracts are cancelled and Oceanrig has brought three of those, the OCR Olympia, the OCR Apollo and the OCR Paros (the ex Cerrado) to Elefsis bay in Greece and they are laid up, stacked next to each other, together with two Panamax bulkers, also out of work. I often fly over this area and have taken pictures of the stack:

http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii181/VDimus/VDimus102/DSC_6416e_zps2xr27nxa.jpg~original (http://s264.photobucket.com/user/VDimus/media/VDimus102/DSC_6416e_zps2xr27nxa.jpg.html)

This was taken in July. The crane bulk carrier is now gone and one more rig, the Paros has been added to the stack. With Henrik's permission, I will be making the static versions of the ship stacks in Elefsis bay and releasing it as addon scenery. Some minor repaints in Henrik's amazing models will be needed and then just placements. You will then have many helipads to practice, with closest airports, Elefsis LGEL (base of the HAF ASR Super Pumas) and Megara Army LGMG (Base of Hellenic Army Chinooks, Apaches and Hueys as well as large GA hub). Unfortunately so far no descent addon scenery exists for these airports but hopefully soon there will be.

Repaints of the models and basic placement is done, showing current situation and real colors and names of ships. I will release this later as a dropbox link on this thread temporarily, as I have started a larger project of showing all ships laid up in the bay as well as the shipyards, refineries and terminals that exist on the shores to make the area more realistic. That will be posted on the library when done. Henrik's models are amazing and a joy to work with!

For this stack of 3 drillships and two panamax bulkers you will have three helipads and two hatch cover landing areas that you can play with:

Hi Dimus,
This looks really great :D I saw your PM, but due to work no chance to respond earlier. There are a few ships which could look like the containership you are missing for the stack and which have an empty version - you can check in AI_CSCL_Vancouver, AI_Maersk_Djibuti, and AI_Shanghai_4800 and see which one suits the best.

The largest tankers in the project are the Maersk Nucleus, Dorra, and Al Shegaya - all around 333 meters so far shorter than the big container ships.

Below a small comparison between MSC Zoe, Dorra, and a USS Bainbridge - a standard US destroyer, which when you visit her is already a big ship...

:D And there will be more... We will do a static pack with drill ships located in their real positions around the world (as it was in 2015 before they started to be put out of service) and the pack will of course be coordinated with the Global AI Ship Project, so supply ships etc will serve them...

For the moment here is a shot of a Brazilian variant of the Saipem drill ship the Sertao which is in service of the coast of Rio de Janerio. If somebody knows which kind of warning lights there are on the derrick, please say so - for the moment I have added two red flashing lights, but that is a guess...

You're welcome. Glad you like it. It's the actual current location of these ships. I'll enhance it more soon. Btw I have to mention that I have not adapted the night textures yet. I need to check what lights are used in laid up condition. Probably just a red light on top as the ships are in hybernation and fuel consumption is kept to a minimum. I need to check the regulations.

Hi

Thanks for the videos :D The one with West Auriga I had not seen - very useful and a good illustration of the complexity of these ships. The one with Maersk I actually used as inspiration - it is an impressive robot ship...

Have tried manually placing the object on the moving ship and saving the flight, when you use save flight the boat as moved altered saved flight to simonground from true to false with no success. I was trying to use the TI Hellas ship from the global ai package. Is it possible to add objects you can pick up onto a moving ship? If possible which large slow moving ship from the pack would be the most suitable.

Hi,
I can't answer whether you can put or pick up something from a moving ship. You can however test it with Maersk Helper and Skandi Copacabana. Both of them have a hard deck big enough to put something on - most other ships only have hard deck on the heli platforms. Both ships sail on routes out of Rio de Janeiro towards the east to Cabo Frio. For the upcoming package I will add larger hard decks on several ships in case your tests are successfull.

Hi Dave,
The jack-up rig I might consider, but generally speaking I have selected the models based on series sizes in order to have options to do more repaints or variants with only minor différences - for the same reason I have also chosen some slightly older designs like the UT745. An exception is the Maersk Detector and the Maersk Dispatcher where only two ships have been built with that design.

Yup.. fully understood. I think the one in the prog is the 'first of line' and impressive as it is.. the repaint opportunities are zero. Much better to choose a standard type/class which is widely used:encouragement:

The jack-up rig featured in the prog was made in Singapore (if I remember right) and was sailed round to the North Sea on the back of one of those semi-submersibles. Now that would be an impressive model/s!!!

The French landing ships Foudre and Siroco now serve in the Brazilian and Chilean navies. That was sufficient reason for adding them to the project - there will be four models in total including one with French Puma helicopters on the deck - still the texturing isn't finished but it starts looking like something.

A small bump to see whats active..

Time is passing quickly these days; just returned from a three week business trip in Asia and work, learning Chinese, and family has had priority lately. However, I have spent countless hours on airplanes and that is good for modelling - yesterday I almost completed a Chinese Jiangkai class frigate on a flight back from Hong Kong. However, sitting on a plane makes it impossible to test routes, and that is the most time consuming part and it is seriously delayed. With few hours at home for the moment not much time for sitting at the computer, but below some screenshots with new models:

I actually included a Thai ship already - the Krabi Class, which is similar to the Brazilian and new British OPVs. I might still include the Type 56 - I will look at the Thai version and see if it can be done without too many changes.

Yes sir, I saw your Krabi OVP already, she's looked very good, thank you very much sir, she is very similar to Brazilian Amazonas OPV. Type 056 is a bit shorter than Thai Pattani class and Pattani class is almost the same as the P18N class of Nigerian navy sir. So Thai and Nigerian versions are quite difference from Type 056. But if you want to add more Thai ships, we have two Knox class frigate with Phalanx CIWS sir. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTMS_Phutthayotfa_Chulalok / https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTMS_Phutthaloetla_Naphalai

The new update is available here:

https://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fsxscen&DLID=199700

It is an update which includes around 200 ships and thanks to Jean-Pierre Fillion also groups of marine animals in their right locations like the below orcas in the Tysfjord in Norway.

In order to get full benefit you need to have the Global AI Ship Traffic V1 installed first.

Enjoy

Copy the four folders to simobjects/boats and overwrite the existing folders with the same names.

Hi Dave,
Sorry for late reply but I have been working in China lately where Sim-outhouse isn't accesible... Well, the net is there for a reason... and behind that you see a bit of laziness...

On the next model I haven't been that lazy. The French and Morocan Floreal class with five different versions. The Panther is provided by Bernard Juniot.

The freeware ThumbnailExporter (from Lorby-Si) allow to display the thumbnails, hence its name ;) and a choice of property for each - including model name and model type.

It can by downloaded on author site http://lorby-si.weebly.com/ section downloads. It has been recently updated.

Description extracted from the readme :

This application (recursively) reads a directory containing SimObjects for FSX or P3D, extracts the thumbnails from the livery folders and builds a simple HTML-Report containing a table with the thumbnails and selected data from the object's description.

Recursively: the Thumbnail Exporter will scan all subfolders in this directory, and their subfolders, and so on, and checks if an aircraft.cfg or sim.cfg is present

Hi
If you did not do the update installing 200 AI Ships and AI Ship Traffic V2 you will have 4 ships compiled for FS9 - AI_Calypso, AI_AC_Sailboat, AI_John_T_Essberger and AI_La_Recouvrance. These should be manually reomoved or overwritten with the files in 200 AI Ships and AI Ship Traffic V2. If not you risk a CTD once one of them load e.g. in the area around Tahiti...

Hi
Yes, they work in P3Dv4 - however you need to install first the main package Global AI Ship Traffic V1 and then afterwards the 200 AI Ships and AI Ship Traffic V2. There were 4 models in the Global AI Ship Traffic compiled for FS9 which had to be recompiled.

😁 If what you mean is to add loose objects to be hoisted by a helicopter you first need to choose a model with harddeck. Most of the navy ships have it, but the freighters only have it if they have an H marked on a hatch or directly on the deck. A few of the offshore supply ships have the full deck as hard deck.

It is a beaitiful ship and an impressive history . Not many ships started as luxury yachts, then escorted convoys, and then became a yacht again...

The solution is
"open the effects fx_wake_s, fx_wake_ss, and fx_wake_l with notepad and check if they contain the parameter:

TempK=107.00
TempRate=0.01

or

TempK=109.00
TempRate=0.01

both will provoke that wakes rise to the sky and they are not a part of a normal fsx wake effect.
You can edit them out with notepad, or if you have a back-up overwirte them with the original wake effects.

Ahoy Seahawk, first Bravo and Well Done! wonderful effort. Having first gone to sea before the container age, the new styles and types of ships are a shock for me, as I have not been at sea for some decades now. But i greatly admire and appreciate your effort it is one of the most significant expansions of the FSX virtual world yet achieved, similar to the AI Passenger and Freight Plane traffic developed for FS9. Thank you.

it will be an eye opener for me to explore your new nautical world...wonderful work and thanks again.

Hi CrisGer,
I am only an admirer like yourself.
Most of these incredible ships and impressive amount of work belong to "kl791".
He is deserving of your praise and my heartfelt thanks.

Thanks - I will head back to China next Sunday so it would be great if you can send it before - it can keep me entertained in the evenings in the hôtels :D And regards to the Valemax, I found the Vale Brasil in Significant Ships, so that one will be next - i would like to have at least 7 of the big ones to do routes with new models every day. I am working with a Brazilian designer who is doing Vale's Ponta Madeira port and Sao Luis, and it was possible to identify Berge Stahl and the China Steel Succes as some of the ships present on the photoreal - that gave the topdown view. Not 100% precise but absolutely okay for the illusion. I have tried to increase the detail level a bit on the deck as both types will serve as helicopter landing pads - I even put a full hard deck on Berge Stahl for ultralights :D

Henrik kindly gave me permission to use the hull from his Niteroi class frigate and supplied me with the source files. I've built a new superstructure on top to create the Amazon class for the Royal Navy. Early days yet still to animate the radar, create the textures for the other hull numbers, add 'non exocet' variant (Antelope/early Amazon), harden flight deck, night textures etc etc. Once complete i'll pass on to Henrik to add to any future release.

:wiggle: That "book" is good... It allows for important time savings... if I was doing everything from scratch I would probably still be working on the first package..... I did a 400.000 tons bulkcarrier yesterday - probably half the elements and also half the texture sheet are reuse from´previous models. With navy ships it is obvious to reuse e.g. armament, antennas, people...

Hi. Henrik,

Looking at the Tariq class the main differences appear to be some are fitted with harpoon and some are fitted with a chinese LY-60 SAM in place of MM-38 exocet. Phalanx CIWS in place of sea cat, and some minor radar mods. So yes it's doable! I can knock up a Chinese SAM launcher and a phalanx so if you can send me a harpoon launcher I'll make a Tariq class variant once I've finished the type 21's

I have 6 drill ships including one from Maersk. They are prepared as static models but not published as such yet. I guess I might have said that I will do a semi-submersible from Maersk. But it is still just a plan. They take a long time to complete as they are not symetric and have too many tubes, vents, stairs.... The Polar Pioneer I put aside in desperation three times...

The stack is now 5 drillships, still no sign of them being reactivated. A further one will be hot laid up in Brazil soon, to be more ready for action if needed. The cost of reactivating one of them from cold lay up condition is huge so they need a big contract to decide to light them up.

The bulk carriers are gone as rates have slightly increased for them lately and they found work. I have not updated the scenery though.

Peace... Life is already complicated so let's not complicate it further doing our hobby... And yes, I have been extremely busy at work; had to go around the world already three times this year for business purposes - and I spend most of my time in China where sim-outhouse is blocked by authorities. So difficult to communicate and also not much time for the project - especially not for compiling routes which requires that I sit at home and have good time. Modelling is easier because I can do it on the plane to kill time... And I had some time to kill on the plane lately...

Nice one on the Blue Star Henrik! The Blue Star Delos had a grounding in Ios this summer and many weekends were ruined working on getting it unstuck and towed back safely to Piraeus.

Speaking of ferries, and not wishing to hijack your thread, I would have no objection to share with you the double ended ferries I made for the Rio-Antirio scenery, for you to use them in other routes, either in the Aegean or elsewhere. You can find the models (3 of them) in the scenery installation package, which is here in SOH library. Btw, it's one of your ships passing under the bridge there. ;)

Speaking of Ferries... How about giving the US lakes a bit of action. Default FSX has the Lake Champlain Ferries using default models but as a lifelong Vermonter (who has also ridden on these ships) it would be kinda cool to see appropriate sized ferries on the lake. I'm sure there are plenty or other ferries running on the great lakes as well.

The MV Adirondack is was originally built in 1913 and is still in service. I've ridden this ferry many times.

Here's some links to the Lake Champlain Transportation history page and a google images search.

There were a couple of nice ones in between :D And I have just done a bunch of "loose" cars to add to open ferries...

This one will be for him... still early WIP but we will not let the Royal Navy nor Dave's memory down. I had several things planned with him when he passed away.

Thanks for the nice comments - here are another couple of screenshots. Antennas, radars, ladders etc are getting into place. The nice thing about stealth ships is that they are extremely soft on FPS...
