Hi Guys,

Does anyone know if there is or if there could be, an Avro Shackleton AEW Mk2 for FSX?

I am aware that there was one produced for FS2004 by Paul Foster of Phoenix Designs a long while ago in 5 different markings, including 3 for No.8 Sqn.; and that there is an excellent Freeware MR3 by Rob Richardson (which I have); but I would love to have the No.8 Sqn., AEW Mk2 version in all over blue/grey, with the AN/APS 20 radar dome underneath the fuselage!

Any ideas anyone?

Yours in hope,:encouragement:

MdlconX the Mk2 to FSX native and borrow the Mk3 VC (not quite accurate but close enough). Permission would be required if you wanted to release, but what you do for your own private use is up to you.

Thanks for the idea JD, but doing anything like that is way beyond my knowledge and abilities i'm afraid!

Reminds me of the old 'Polish Tank' question.

Merging a vc is pretty simple once you get the basics down pat

Heres a quick video on merging a vc

The hardest thing you will face is working out what texture files you will need to copy over

I dont have the model so i cant help you but try mucking around with a default model to get the basics

Ha,ha! No tanks here wombat!:biggrin-new:

Thanks jeansy, I'll take a look at that!:encouragement:

I think perhaps the best way forward for me, is to try and contact the designers first and/or ask Rob Carrich if he has any plans for an AEW version of HIS Shackleton.

Thanks for the input all the same!:loyal:

Well, I thought that I would try the PD FS9 Shackleton on FSX, just to see if it would work at all; with some reasonable results!
Textures aren't quite a crisp as a native FSX aircraft, but given the age of this model, it doesn't stand up too badly!
All controls function nicely; lights, sounds etc., the only downside is the propeller textures when the engines are running!
Here's hoping for a native FSX AEW Mk2!

I forgot to mention, that she flies very tail end heavy (straight from the box); so requires an update file for that. Plus an improved sound file.
