just a question/request?..would it be possible to do Joe "Hoser" Satrapa's T-89 out of Grass Valley?

tankerguy72
December 28th, 2015, 07:12
There is a FSX S2F-1 (Navy version) already available in the library here.

Yeah I'm hoping Orbx will do Hemet or Ramona for their SoCal scenery.

Hoser flies 89 which is the S2T. If all goes well with this version I'll work on converting the T model.

Daveroo

but wasnt Hoser flying t-89 before the change to the S2T?..i thought he was..i might be wrong...i usually am...just ask my dad................

Are you referring me to this one that states:

Grumman S2Turbo Military Version for FSX (FS9 Portover) (S2T-MIL)

This is NOT NATIVE FSX <<<<< This is their comment.

by Milton Shupe, Scott Thomas, Tom Fliger, Nigel Richards, Rachel Whiteford, Dave Stewart and Jan Visser with help from SOH members.

This Grumman Tracker S2T(urbo), Marsh Conversion for Military use, setup as an FSX Portover.

So, I am still looking for a native Tracker I guess........(not a portover)

It looks like you are making a Native FSX Fire Fighter S2F.

Thanks anyway.

Thanks anyway.

Thanks! I'll be doing up different numbers afterwards. Can't remember the Redding tracker numbers off hand. I think in the 90s? 76 was from Columbia then moved down to Hemet.

Thanks, I found that one and installed it and ya know what, That's an S2 Tracker -ASW) a stoof with a little roof as I called em back in my old Navy Days.
This is a great addon and glad to add it to my inventory. The VS designations denoted Anti-Sub squadron.

http://s30.postimg.org/t2uc9aech/tracker.jpg

On the other hand, what I was looking for in native FSX was this C1 Trader (no little radar on the roof)
And your fire bird looks like a formerly C1 Trader.

Your link also shows a S2 Turbo and is a FSX portover. I'm interested in a FSX Native C1 if one is out there somewhere.

This one would fly pax on off carriers and bring us our mail - before cell phones.

Nice glad you found it. I believe someone is doing a conversion for the C-1.

The tankers CDF used were S2F-1s, TS-2As, or US-2A or B. 76 was a TS-2A

I actually have the C1A Trader in FSX already, native and all with specs and bump maps. I haven't done much work on it recently trying to get the Bell 222 at least finished, plus I picked up the Nemeth S76, KA26 and MI2 for FSX conversion recently and I am working once again with Milviz with a nice surprise :jump: I will see what's left to do on C1 and do a beta session with Uncle Milton.

Plugging away on the VC, but took a little time out add some history to the sim. Created my first scenery object which is the main hangar at Hemet Ryan. Was the home of Hemet Valley Flying Service from the 60's to late 90's and they operated and maintained many S-2s from this hangar. Here are a few shots of it.

Oh boy, this looks gorgeous! I don't regret buying FireFighterX with this Tracker and the TigerCat tanker on approach!

Just one Tracker newbie question : which Tracker model are you working on? Is this the S2AL or S2F? Just to know if the Sécurité Civile F-ZBAU livery will fit (little, tiny French bias :) )

Euroastar350 is working on the native FSX S2T Civilian Tanker, or has it in his list to do after his release of my C-1A Trader which was last month.

tankerguy72
February 8th, 2016, 12:37
Thank you! This is the S-2A and S-2AL (capped hawkbill nacelle) models. I pretty much have the exterior textures done and have moved to the VC and adding some details there.

I also have firefighter X and in my opinion is the best addon for FSX but that also has alot to do with the fact that I pretty much only fly airtankers in flight sim.

Kekelekou
February 9th, 2016, 09:21
My English could be worse, but I am totally clueless about the "capped hawkhill" nacelles! :dizzy:
Do you mean the "flat-faced" ones, not to be confused with the pointy ones?

tankerguy72
February 10th, 2016, 09:27
Haha sorry the capped hawkbill ones would come to a point if you were looking from the top down. Those were seen more on the US-2A/Bs. The squared nacelle was more early S2F-1 or TS-2A. Anyway Milton graciously modeled both so both will be with this package.

Just FYI, but I've got one C-1A almost finished with some more in the pipeline.

BuNo 146027 is pretty much complete, just needs final inspection, making a thumbnail and packaging it all up.

BuNo 136754 is about 2/3 done. Actually just need to do the nacelles and cowlings, but on this one, those are going to be some of the toughest parts.

There's a couple more Navy ones I want to do and then some fictional civilian ones (The Trader should make one heck of a bush plane)

Shameless plug for my own work here - I did a fictional civilian cargo livery for the C-1A when it was released (in fact, I got started on it before the plane went gold) with a redo of the interior to match. I recommend you take a look at it, as I'm really rather proud of my interior work.

Will you be able to make a standard COD version of your beautiful work when you have finished the tanker? I made a texture (available here) of "Miss America" the CVA-66 USS AMERICA COD for Milton's C1A when it was released. I've done a 2D panel for it but your VC is just fantastic and I would like to be able to add it in original C1A version to my "Miss America".

Thank you for all your work. I had the opportunity 25 years ago at Fresno to climb all over their "Boneyard" of Stoofs and spent some time with my Nikon "in the days B4 digital" on the converted aircraft and talking with the Rangers. They were really nice. At that time my intention was to make a large scale RC C1A. Was out in Fresno to visit my Mom and Dad who are now gone but my sister and her family still live there. I don't know what is left there now. That was their spare parts store to keep the others going.

Will follow your thread here and patiently wait hoping that you can find the time. I know a lot of guys here who would also love a native FSX C1A as much as I would. Beautiful work.

If I can find the envelopes of snapshots, I will see if they can be scanned digitally inexpensively and put them in my Photobucket for you to download. When we moved across country so much stuff went into storage. I may find them when we do the long procrastinated downsizing of the storage shed. I would like to have them that way myself. I lost a ton of my 1968 and 1970 cruise slides in a flood never to be retrieved. We got over 3 feet of water inside the house in the basement. People were in rowboats and canoes on the flooded streets. Fortunately both of my Cruise Books were upstairs high and dry but so many memories were drowned as well as the entire rec room furniture. Ah well, its only stuff. Boo Hoo. LOL

Tankerguy72 has been very busy of late so I took on some of the work to help this project move ahead. His work is just too good to leave in the back of a dusty ol' hangar. :-)

After 3 weeks of working on it daily for many hours, we have made great progress inside and outside.

Still a few things to wrap up or improve upon, but this project has made great strides.

Here are a few screen shots; will post more in a bit.

Milton those look amazing! I can see this will be one of my new favorites.

Well, you can thank Tankerguy72 for the photoreal textures, bump maps, and revised VC modeling, along with modeling updates to gear, and add-ons to the exterior. He has put a lot of time in this to model the real world example.

My work was in finalizing the FSX native conversion, adding switch activated doors and retardant effects, custom xml functions, getting all the VC stuff animated, tagged and working, getting gauges installed, upgrading the panel.cfg and getting the flight model settled down, i.e. more flyable.

Some work yet to be done in optimizing textures sizes and finalizing bump and spec maps. I really like the bump map work inside and outside although some work remains. TG's textures give you a real feeling about this model.

Thank you Sir, but, I am not taking this over, just lending a helping hand. TG is very much involved but has been super busy this past year until recently. Now that he is wrapping up work on the C-119, he is becoming available to wrap up this project. Just talked with him and he is sending over some updates to textures while I apply some chrome to the yoke shafts. :-) I am trying to wrap things on my end as he gets his end setup to take it over.

I talked with TG less than a week ago about this one; too good to just let it sit; very realistic feeling with photo-real textures and massive bump mapping.

He is in process of re-sizing some of the 4096 textures as the texture load was massive. Not sure what else needs to be done but I know it's still a WIP. TG has been super busy and pre-occupied with other things for quite a while now.

Maybe he can update us with the details, but we did talk about the possibility of releasing it as a WIP.

Baby boy arrived Nov 1st. I think I kind of remember what sleep feels like...

Working on the S2 now when I get some quiet time. I have resized most of the textures now and checking how they look. Im hoping a week or two and ill have something to release for all to enjoy.

As always I want to thank Milton for his never ending help and advice. I wouldnt know anything about modeling if it wasnt for him.

Congrats on the little one.

All I can say is, enjoy, and savour all the moments, even the poopy ones, because all of it just flies by. Seems like just the other day I held our little 3.5lb 2-month early preemie, fighting for her life. Now she's one of the tallest kids in her class of 12 year olds, fastest girl in her grade, a crazy good soccer player, a total science nerd, and, to boot, likes to hop on the sim and fly circuits.

The WIP looks truly stunning!

Will there, even if at some distant point, a naval version, even just a C-1A Trader / COD, with folding wings and tailhook? I'd be happy even if the VC was your current tanker version.

That would make a bunch of us naval aviation nuts superbly happy!

Thanks again for the progress shots - amazing work!

I did 13 variants of the S2 radials and turbos including the S2T series and the EC1A twin tail, military and civilian variants.
About half of them have been converted to FSX native by Euroastar350, and a few firefighters by me.
And add to that group this one converted by Tankerguy where I also invested quite a few hours in the VC.

All the other VC's are as the were in the originally released versions.

Here are some of the FSX native models converted by Euroastar350.

Thanks dl definitely building the memories already. Our boy was 4 days late and weighed in at 9lbs 14.4oz. Will make a great linebacker someday haha.

I recently revised the flight model for it (need to check to ensure I sent it to TG).

He had sent a revised WIP package to test and that was a big help in texture size reduction and overhead. Runs very smoothly now for me.

AFAIK, very much a WIP so its up to TG how he wishes to proceed.

There are so many models of the Tracker available I'm a little confused.

First, I assume the model that is the subject of this thread is not yet released?
Is it going to have both the boattail and squared off engine nacelle's?
Is it going to be a straight up S-2A, or a modified one to be a tanker/civilian firefighter?

The reason I ask is I'd like to create at least a couple repaints of TS-2's. From my research, it seems all the TS-2's are conversions from S2F-1/S-2A's, Not S-2D's. As was noted earlier in the thread, the C-1A's all have boattail engine nacelle's, whereas the TS-2's have the squared off engine nacelle of the S2F-1/S-2A.

There is an S2F-1 model available, but it's got a radome over the cockpit. Is there another model of the S2F-1 available that's been upgraded to FSX that is without the radome on top? I've seen a couple pictures of TS-2's with radomes, but most do not have them.

I do have an old model from a US-2A that doesn't have the radome, but I get tons of errors with that one when I read it into ModelconverterX (I use it to check my paints), so I'm assuming it's not really FSX compatible. Plus it's got the boattail engine nacelles.

Any history or corrections to my research would be great!
Thanks!

There are so many models of the Tracker available I'm a little confused.

That's perfectly understandable; I did 14 variants, then made some of them FSX friendly.
Later, Euroastar350 converted 3-4 of them to FSX native.
I converted one to FSX native: HERE (http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?t=108237)
This thread is about another variant that Tankerguy72 is converting with my help and permission.

First, I assume the model that is the subject of this thread is not yet released? Correct; see Tankerguy's comments above.
Is it going to have both the boattail and squared off engine nacelle's? It will be as shown in screenshots above.
Is it going to be a straight up S-2A, or a modified one to be a tanker/civilian firefighter? It's a CDF firefighter.

The reason I ask is I'd like to create at least a couple repaints of TS-2's. From my research, it seems all the TS-2's are conversions from S2F-1/S-2A's, Not S-2D's. Hi Milton,

So I loaded up your CDF model tonight. It looks to me like it would make the perfect model for a TS-2A, except, as you know, it's missing the tailhook and MAD boom that it seems the TS-2A retained after conversion.

Interestingly, FWIW, when I load it into ModelconverterX, it's looking for fuseinnerrear.dds. I can't find that texture in any of the S-2's I have loaded. Also, none of the control surfaces show up in ModelconverterX(?). As I said, I use it for checking my repaints.

BTW, I just started using the paintkit for the S2F-1. Wow, that's really great, thank you for that.

Tom
