View Full Version : Gameport yoke ?

Hi guys -

I have a few questions for you all:

1. I saw a gameport CH yoke on e-bay for about $10.00. I have a gameport card installed in one of my PCI slots on my computer and am wondering if this will work since all my other controllers are USB ? My hardware configurer indicates that the gameport is functioning correctly but I have never used it.

2. I know that USB is faster but is that the only difference ?

3. How many controllers can be used in FS9 at the same time ?

Any advice would be appreciated! :)

Snaker,

a couple years back i was in the same quandry.....E-Bay gameport or new USB CH Yoke and Pedals.

friend from Canada said 'stay away from gameports and E-Bay'. i can't remember the reason now.

i googled CH products and found a site that for $177 or was it $122 got CH Pro yoke and pedals package; no shipping charges.

can't remember the site now.

other technical questions i can't answer but i've got USB Sidewinder, mouse and keyboard in addition to yoke and pedals. no problems/no conflicts. i use the Sidewinder at my side for additional functions when not in CFS1. i've used up all the buttons on the yoke for FS.

hope this helps somewhat

Ed

Thanks for the reply EdPhilly -

That is a great idea to use you joystick for other functions when using your yoke. It sounds like you can have lots of devices hooked up to FS9 at the same time. I currently have a Sidewinder II and some homemade USB Rudder pedals.

I think there might be a conflict with using gameport devices and USB at the same time, but I am not sure.

Snaker,

got a question for you, but first, on my old 'ME' machine i had only two on-board USB slots. i went to Micro-Center and bought USB extension cords for the two slots. one extension cords expanded my USB connection to 2 outlets. i later bought another extension cord that had 4 outlets on it. therefore i had 6 available USB hubs instead of two that worked fine. so i don't think there is any limit on how many USB devices you can have. others more knowledgeable may have more advice.

the next question comes from ignorance that i am too embarressed to ask on any flight sim forum. i have FS98, FS2000, and FS2002. i didn't buy into FS2004 when my older brother advised against it as it didn't seem to buy him anything extra except for some older planes.

so i am confused [which is normal] when folks say "FS9". does that mean i have FS8, FS7, and perhaps FS5? i'm being serious, not being able to keep up with all this new jargon.

i've chased trains leaving the station with new additions almost every year at 30+ bucks a year. i've chased IL-2 basic until the patches overwhelmed me and then they made a Russian front into a Japanese one. i've chased CFS until i bought CFS3 with all its warts. am back to just plain old FS2002 and CFS1; although the yoke will work nicely in the P-38 in CFS2. it's a real blast for coordination with yoke and pedals in combat. try it.

just my rant for the day.

and remember,...for 10 bucks you get what you pay for

thanks,

Ed
btw, i run a two monitor side-by-side setup for FS. the 'secondary' monitor shows my FSNav flight plans and i also use Abacus' Co-Pilot.

enlarge the picture to see details of the MIG-21. the guy thought i was a real pilot as i was nimble in entering it, getting the right controls and locking my feet into the pedals,...etc. notice the 'ejection' handles between the legs. i mentioned to the guy that the radar cowl was missing. he had it on the floor. i told him i had the helmut leather MIG liner at home but he didn't want to offer it to use by the public. i could've bought a MIG-21 for 5000USD from Poland as excess military gear and my men neighbors thought it would be cool to see it parked in my driveway. wife wasn't keen about that.

Hi Ed -

I think you are right that fs2002 would be FS8, etc. But I am not really sure either but the FS_ desingations must have something to do with when they are released.

Sounds like your men neighbors are pretty smart, encourage the other guy to get the Mig for his driveway so they can all look at it. LOL :costumes:
I think it would have been a pretty cool sight to see!

I also agree with you on the yolk, I would probably be better off investing in a good USB one from CH or another company.

For my setup I use Trackir, activecamera, homemade rudder petals, and a side-winder II joystick. This setup works really well with military planes.

:icon29: :)
