An unmanned Army balloon, nearly as long as a football field, broke loose in Maryland today and floated north over Pennsylvania, according to NORAD.
The balloon, known as a Joint Land Attack Cruise Missile Defense Elevated Netted Sensor System, detached from its mooring at Aberdeen shortly before noon. You can view a high-resolution image of the balloon here. (http://www.wgal.com/news/36098458)
NORAD officials said the balloon is dragging a one-mile long cable. The balloon was spotted over New Holland, Lancaster County, at 1:25 p.m.

So, did the balloon develop AI and decide to look for greener pastures?
Did it decide it didn't want to be drafted and chose to seek sanctuary in Canada?
"It detached..." does that mean they used 12 cent/foot poly rope from Walmart to tether a $2.7Billion project or is there a group protesting the unethical Treatment of Balloons going around setting them free?
Downed power lines? That should get the attention of more than a few people... oh, wait.. "Lancaster, PA" will the Amish complain?
