I am stumped. :banghead:

This surfaced also on the linked thread at about #194. Changing the static height to zero - which in the Midway/Forrestal/Kitty Hawk models is contained in the same sim.cfg as the ship - has not fixed the problem. I have these carriers on tracks on Yankee Station (3 track fleets which look cool) but the deck pack/plane formations slip off the deck whenever the CV starts to move. It seems like the planes do not accelerate at the same rate as the carrier but then they both stabilise at the same speed, with the planes a few hundred yards behind.

Q: Should the static height be other than zero? Lazarus I think configured the Bonaventure with the boat and planes in separate folders. both with slightly different (-2.2 vs -2.75 I think) settings. Is this a tweak you need to make to the acceleration/deceleration entries?

Earlier discussion: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?95120-Kitty-Hawk-Class-Aircraft-Carriers/page8

Thanks in advance.

Hiya expat:wavey:

Look at these lines for both the carrier and the airwing and make sure they're the same..

[DesignSpecs]
max_speed_mph = 50
acceleration_constants = 0.07, 0.07 //Time constant (effects responsiveness), and max acceleration (Gs)
deceleration_constants = 0.05, 0.05 //Time constant (effects responsiveness), and max acceleration (Gs)
SternPosition = -120

acceleration constants and deceleration constants must be the same for both carrier and airwing or one will start and stop at a different rate to the other:encouragement:

Hey Dave, appreciate your reply and help.

Thing is, Warren's Forrestal and Kitty Hawk Class (and Gary's Midway) have common settings for both ship and airwing together in one sim.cfg, so they must have the same entries.

[fltsim.0]
title=VEH_CV63
model=
texture=

[fltsim.1]
title=VEH_CV63_Crowded
model=Crowded
texture=

[fltsim.2]
title=VEH_CV63_Launch
model=Launch
texture=

[fltsim.3]
title=VEH_CV63_Recover
model=Recover
texture=

[General]
category=Boat

[contact_points]
static_pitch=0.0 //degrees, pitch when at rest on the ground (+=Up, -=Dn)
static_cg_height=0.0 //feet, altitude of CG when at rest on the ground

[DesignSpecs]
max_speed_mph = 50
acceleration_constants = 0.07, 0.07 //Time constant (effects responsiveness), and max acceleration (Gs)
deceleration_constants = 0.05, 0.05 //Time constant (effects responsiveness), and max acceleration (Gs)
SternPosition = -180

Hmm.. a rethink required. Both my braincells are on the case. SWMBO has just come in from work so I have to 'do stuff' for a few mins. Hopefully.. I'll return with an answer soon;)

Thanks - need something to tie down that airwing! Kind of like the old table cloth gag - the deck is the cloth and the airwing the table setting that stays in place.

Expat..

I've uploaded versions of Kitty Hawk and Constellation HERE (http://daveb.cbfsim.org/public/Kitty_Connie.zip)

Kitty is the latest version I have though the upload doesn't have Deke's airwing repaint. I've sent Connie too (this does have Deke's new airwing paint) and Connie differs in that I've removed all the platforms Kitty has and put one monster platform in their place. I've just run both up side by side in FSX (I chose Crowded deck) and they both run just fine. Put your current Kitty (and Connie if you have it) in a safe place then drop these two into Boats;)

Thanks Dave - will give it a go later tonight. I somehow ended up without the last updated model Warren posted in the longer Kitty thread where he took JBD's down and did some other stuff.

Crikey yes mate.. I know exactly how you feel. Threads sometimes get to a point where you've no idea where you are (hats off to Jafo for keeping the latest L39 model current over many pages of that particular thread) and if like me.. you have more than one Kitty Hawk.. that confuses the issue further!!

If you have Deke's Kitty Hawk airwing repaints.. drop those 3 maps into the CV63 texture folder and you're good to go. I've just added them to this version;)

Have done a test (via TeamViewer . . .) - though need to reconfirm later when at home.

What I have found is that if I drop your CV-63 model into the sim with AICarriers2, the airwing stays put on the moving boat. Thanks again for the updated models (JBD's are down and the model has fewer polys than the one I had, which is over at simviation).

However, in the interest of never ending sim carrier ops madness, I wanted to take this further by seeing if I could get the airwing to move in sync with the boat in a AI boat plan/carrier track. Different deal than Lamont Clark's (quite wonderful) utility. I used the same technique by overlaying the airwing model on the very same track as the carrier, with identical start locations and times. It sort of works, but there is clearly some latency that makes the airwing run behind the carrier. Here are the format of BoatPlans.txt entries I have been using for the Forrestal/Kitty Hawk/Midway boats. All have the problem when used in a carrier track. It may be that this is not solvable. A shame, because starting on a moving carrier track from a saved flight is easier/more realistic than spawning one when already in flight. Oh, well . .

AC#1,CV63,10%,2Hr,00:00:00,00:29:03,1000,normal,fe rry,00:10:54,00:39:57,1000,reverse,ferry
AC#2,CWG,10%,2Hr,00:00:00,00:29:03,1000,normal,fer ry,00:10:54,00:39:57,1000,reverse,ferry

#1 is the Kitty Hawk and # 2 is the airwing. Both as mentioned have the same sim.cfg.
Separately - do you happen to have the airwing paints for the Midway posted (think by Deke) at #95 in this thread? These aren't in the Library here.

Hiya expat:wavey:

Deke uploaded the new airwings to the library.. http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?95472-Kitty-Hawk-Air-Wing-Texture-update-zip ;)

Ah.. I see the problem you're having now.. using the model with tracks that is. I'm gonna have to look at how Javier did it with Nimitz and Sylvain does it with the French carriers. I've used both with tracks and they work just fine. It's possible (probable in fact) that the deck models on both are attached to the carrier as with each.. you only select one model in AIC to get the config you're after. The way Warren has done it is an elegant solution but I fear it's also the cause of the latency you're seeing.

Just checked and as suspected.. all the deck items on Foch, Clem and Nimitz are attached to the deck and part of the overall model. Damned shame mate but unless someone (Warren) is able to recompile the carrier with the air groups attached.. I can't see a way around this problem.

OK, that explains it - thanks for clarifying.

I see in the Library Deke's airwing stuff for the Super Carrier models but no airwing paints for Midway. However, in the #95 post in the Kitty thread there is a screenie that shows Deke did do paints for the Midway - you can see the VF-161 F-4's in the photo.

Lastly, have you heard from Warren/Wombraider78? PM'd him last week but not seen him for a while. Hooky is waiting to get his permission to post the mods he has finished on the Forrestal/Kitty models that successfully reduce the FPS hit, which Hooky also did for CV-34 and CV-41. I am sure Warren will bless this - at some point - as he has, in the Kitty thread (post #70), already offered the source files to anyone who wants them and wishes to mod these further.

Working on last texture set - for Gary's Midway with the F-4's, A-6's and A-7's aboard.
CAG-5 (CVW-5) with VF-161 representing the Phantoms, and VA-93 the SLUF. Of course, VA-115 for the Intruder.

I was thinking of making alternate air wing paints that members can drag and drop should they want some difference - noting YoYo's Pukin' Dog phantom overflying Connie - as all know Air Wing - to - Carrier assignments change from time to time - and Connie did have CVW-14 aboard during the Vietnam war for a period. Anyhow, that may be a possibility for the future if there is a desire.

For now, here is CVW-5/Midway WIP:

Hello Mate:wavey:

That's one F U L L thread isn't it!! Had a read through it again and like you.. I can't see anywhere that Deke actually finished the Midway wing.

Have you tried the version of Connie I sent BTW? You should see no frame hit on it;)

Incidentally.. I've not seen Warren up since his reply on the Kitty Hawk thread.

Hey all, sorry for the extended absence... life (and working for the government) sometimes gets in the way!

I am uploading the Midway (CVW-5) texture update to the skins section of the warbirds area. Should be up there momentarily.

Cheers.

Are those lines pulling off the model? I see this off certain models too though not all.

Warren.. will pull the new versions soonest. Doing a couple of lates which is precluding my play time somewhat!!
