View Full Version : What are all these little hoses protruding on the Dauntless?

Take a look at this picture:

There are a number of small hoses protruding from the underside of this SBD-5 just aft of the engine. What could all these various hoses or pipes be used to dump overboard?

Depending on what the item / function their hooked too, what your looking at could be a 'combination' of 'vent' tubes / 'overflow' tubes and / or 'breather' tubes...

It isn't unusual to have that many, or more, vent, drain, and breather lines for any WWII-era aircraft, both radial-engined and especially inline-engined (when you are dealing with coolant besides), but some aircraft have them dispersed around the airframe more than others, rather than just one main collection point.
