Hi all,

I want to create a Korean War install using the Fox Four missions/campaigns, ships, planes, etc. as a starting point. However, I want to remove any items such as planes ships, and other files which are non-related. I've started with the missions and campaigns folders, but was wondering what other items I may remove or require editing to accomplish this? Thanks in advance for your input.

Kind regards,

TW

......for ships go here http://simviation.com//lair/cfs2shipyard.htm and get all the ships that have "50" in the name. In fact get them all!!!!!:biggrin-new: and replace some of the stock ships with them. Could probably get rid of some of the GER prefix buildings and windmills but keep in mind some of the other structures may be in the missions, especially if you add in some of the late Talons missions. Go through some of the readmes and see what the designer wants and get rid of the rest.
Also remember that the Fox-Four is STOCK mesh, unless that has changed.Als, check out Shadow Wolfs new Korean Bases. They are here in the library somewhere.

Hi Fibber,

I've already picked up those ships, thanks for the info on the other items.

For the missions by Talon you need the new scenery for the USAF campaign and the Fox4 for the USN campaign. This means you will need 2 installs because the are scenery conflicts when both are used in 1 install. He redid the USN Korea campaign with the new scenery but never got to upload it.

I also know he redid 3 of the Fox 4 campaigns with the new scenery. He used different planes, that he fixed, in them to make them more historically accurate I flew them but lost them in a Computer crash.

The bases are here; http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?action=jump&catid=45&id=17689 If you need more, tell me which ones (by name and if possible coordinates).

Hi Shadow Wolf 07,

Thank you for the reply, and yes, I've already picked up this scenery package, as well as your Red Star. I've not yet installed these as it appears I'll need to create a separate install aside from the Fox Four and maybe a third to reinstall my Sabre vs. MiG add on. I've also found Morton's updated planes for the Fox Four install and highly recommend this! I'm not looking for any particular base, my intentions are to remove any unnecessary files (such as stock aircraft, for example) so that I have a lean, mean install exclusive to this theater and time period. I have quite a few planes from the era, still looking for an F2H Banshee, however.

Kind regards,

TW

There's an F2H2_Banshee at simviation.

...as far as US aircraft goes here is a site that lists the aircraft in use in Korea by the US forces; http://www.militaryfactory.com/aircraft/korean-war-us-military-aircraft.asp

This version will give you all the a\c in use; http://www.militaryfactory.com/aircraft/korean-war-aircraft.asp

For involved bird farms;
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Korean_War_aircraft_carriers_of_the_Unite d_States

For all US ships; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Korean_War_naval_ships_of_the_United_Stat es
Tried looking for UK and RAN ships but no complete breakdown just paragraph referrals. Will have to compile that someday, when I do have some (ahem!) free time.

Thought this might help whittle down some folder contents and help eliminate extraneous items.

Hi Bookie,

I found the Banshee at Simviation, it's actually not a bad model. I also found Tango Romeo's excellent A-26 and some skin packs (I believe by Morton) for his AD-2 Skyraider. Thanks for pointing me in that direction.

Hi Fibber,

Awesome and very helpful links! I downloaded a bunch of ships from the Fox Four site, however, it's always helpful to know what other types and classes were involved.

Again, kind regards,

Hi all,

Is there a way to remove the CFS2 stock air bases from the drop down menu in Free Flight and Quick Combat?

Thanks in advance,

TW

you want a clean install. correct?

http://www.thefreeflightsite.com/WW1_CFS2.htm

it will all work for a KW install. Leave the Zero and P38. also leave the Corsair or atleast replace it with the OH version.

Careful deleting objects and ships. some might be used. You can create a new airbase.dat file. don't worry about the stock bases. you can use a clean GSL if you want to remove the objects from them.

Let me know if you need more detail or any help walking through it. If needed I can meet you on Skype.

I was working on a RAAF campaign. I also started the Pusan Perimeter project. Neither of which are finished.

If you'd like to fly the mission I started I can send you a copy. You'll need a few ACs and skins.

Typhoon Willy informed me that the install readme did not list one of the AF scenery packs by Pen32Win, but it is indeed used in the scenery. As soon as I figure out which one is missing, I'll amend the readme and re-upload the pack. There are 5 to chose from and I have to figure out which one ore ones is/are missing. :dizzy: Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused. :wavey:

I think it would be great if we could get the FFKW campaigns all switched over with updated GSLs and so on.

I'm working on a few bit. I think we need train tracks added to the scenery. MR is the only one that knows how, I think. Unless you do SW. If we can get that done I have some train tunnels that I'd like to finish. They would go with my RAAF campaign.

Hi Blood_Hawk23,

I would be happy to try out your RAAF mission. I will need a copy of your country.cfg and your airbase.dat files as it does not appear there is a standardized version of either. I have heavily modified both of these.

Thanks,

TW

..saw that you are doing a RAAF campaign. Just finished reading a book, Last Stand of Fox Company , that mentions close air support by the RAAF that was almost BELOW the Fox positions and helped save them. Might be good to be able to include that one. If I can re-find the book reference I will send it to you.

Here is a reference I found that I thought you might find interesting:

TW,

here give it a go.

24388

there are two different versions of this. this was ment to be a whole campaign. Don't get confused by the whole "A" and "B" setup. Just go with the A setup. This was one of my earliest missions so please forgive any errors. Its kind of a simple one.

BH23,

Got it. I'll give it a go when I get home from work in the morning. Also, thank you for the links for 77 Sqn, I read a couple of them, it seems they would be the basis for some nice ground attack missions.

SW07,

Awww, shucks, it was nuttin'!:redface::redface: You are quite welcome.

Talon (may he rest in peace) did a bunch of GSL infrastructure and missions. Were they preserved?

Thanks for the link, Rami. I have some chores to do first, then I can install Talon's GSL.

I've substituted several planes from my Sabre vs MiG payware in place of some of the freeware planes as I get much higher FRs and I kinda like 'em a little better. (SvM F-86E, B-29 AI, F-51, and MiG-15)

Additionally, I replaced the "Mudpond" F9F with the Alphasim Panther as well as the AS A-26 Invader for the FF B-26B (although the AS has a silver skin vice a black one). Additionally, I added the AS AD-4 as an AI plane but still plan to use TR's Skyraider as a player AC. Lastly, I replaced the FF Meteor F8 with the AS Meteor F3, it looks better and I still get very good FRs.

I intend to use A.F. Scrub's Seafire as a player AC (AS Seafire as an AI for improved FRs), and the AS Sea Fury as an AI while keeping the FF for the player AC, also using Scrubby's Firefly.

I swapped out the stock Corsair for DBolt's F4U-4B (comes with a Korean War skin in VMF-214 markings).

And, I picked up Jim Jacobson's F2H Banshee, which I found a variant in glossy sea blue colors.

While keeping the FF F-84E for an AI, I am using the F-84G by Jens B. Kristensen as a player AC, and of course Tango Romeo's upgraded version of M. Taccoli's F-80C (Seductive Shirley skin) for both player and AI.

I installed the AS F7F-3/3N, unfortunately, on my rig, the FRs are unacceptable. Too bad.

I couldn't resist, I had to include the AS F8F Bearcat for some "what if" missions.

I kept the stock C-47, the rest are FF AC.

For anti-sub duties, I have TR's AD-4W and AEW-1 Guppy.

Am I missing anything as far as major AC goes???

Thanks TheBookie,

I'm still in the process of getting things organized, after that, I would like to fly Fox Four's and Talon's campaigns. I also have a mission from Blood_Hawk23 I want to try.

Although a navy guy by trade, I was thinking about some missions for the F-80s and F-84s. I just love ground attack assignments!

Kind regards,

TW
