What is the name of the zip file for the scenery and where did you download it from? Also can you send a screen shot of just what it looks like. It will help in narrowing down just what is going on.

MR

File is mr_solomons_08116, it's the solomons scenery.downloaded it from SOH scenery add ons. Nothing else was installed other than MR papua new guinea scenery, no issues. Ballale is there, the airfield and facilities but no on solid ground, the non runway areas is water, facilities are on water.

Inside the mr_solomons_08116 folder/scenery folder these are the files that should be listed. There are 33 of them. 4 of them are related to ballale

You might also try going to my website (click on the link in my signature) and downloading the Solomon's pack from there. The zip is named mr_solomons_080512.zip. I am pretty sure that this pack is complete and functioning properly.

OK, thanks.

Did you place the files in the "Place CONTENTS in Main CFS2 SCENERY Folder" folder as per install instructions?

And

Is the "MR Solomons" folder in the parent CFS2 folder?

And is it near the top of the scenery library list?

MR

PS Do you have Rhumbas mesh and masks installed?

Have you visited Stirling Island? If not, please do and tell me if you get the same visuals as at Ballale.

Okay, I was wondering if perhaps that was it, if I misunderstood the readme.Yes, I added the "Place CONTENTS in Main CFS2 SCENERY Folder" to scenery as instructed. The GSL to GSL folder. The other folder, where does it go? I added it manually. Was not sure how else to do it, did same for others and worked fine.Scenery list?
I added those 33 files in the MR SOLOMONS folder manually to main texture and scenery files. Taking it I misunderstood how was supposed to install?

Aaahhh, yes. Ok. That's it. That entire MR Solomons folder along with its sub-folders needs to be dumped AS IS right into the main CFS2 parent folder and then activated. If those MR_Solomons/scenery folder bgls get into the main CFS2 scenery folder with the bgls from the "Place CONTENTS in Main CFS2 SCENERY Folder" bgls, the bgls from the "Place CONTENTS in Main CFS2 SCENERY Folder" folder will make the new Ballale shorelines and land disappear. Those bgls that we throw into the main CFS2 scenery folder are what make the stock shorelines and land disappear so the new shoreline and land bgls can take their place. That is why it is important to place the new scenery higher in the scenery library list so that CFS2 will read those bgls AFTER it reads the bgls that delete the stock land and shorelines- delete stock roads and rivers, too, if Ballale had any. The scenery folder lower down in the list get read and acted upon before those further up in the list.

Shouldn't be too hard to fix. ;^)

If you go to Stirling Island and Ondonga you will probably see the same problem. Those were both locations where the stock land and shorelines were replaced with new.

Thanks for hangin' in there!

Just make sure I have this correct.Move the folder intothe main CFS directory? Then activate in the scenery under options once open the sim? No placing the folder in the main scenery folder? Textures either? I deleted them from the scenery, do I need to delete the textures as well?

Okay that fixed sterling, ballae is no longer floating on water but its blocky and square.suppose I need to install the mesh by rhumba is it? Which one? Also sure I need to go delete the textures from the main texture folder.Youve been a huge help, thank you.

Hehe, no do not install Rhumbas mesh. Not for this Solomons pack. It isn't needed.

Here is what it says straight out of the install notes:

1. Drop the entire MR Solomons folder into your main CFS2 folder- if asked to overwrite,
say yes.- and then activate it. If you have an existing MR Solomons folder,
delete it or deactivate it.

I grant you it is a tad confusing. However, it says nothing about putting anything into the main cfs2 scenery folder, eh? ;^)

Forget everything after "and then activate". The rest of it is just for those who may have had an earlier incarnation of MR Solomons installed. If so then it needs to be deleted or deactivated to avoid conflicts. Doesn't apply to you.

Yes, activate through the options menus.

"No placing the folder in the main scenery folder?" Correct. Place it into the CFS2 parent folder and activate it from there using the options menu.

"do I need to delete the textures as well?" Yes delete any of the textures from this pack that you may have added to the main CFS2 texture folder. They only need to be where they are: in the MR Solomons/texture folder.

Happy to have been of service. I hope you enjoy the scenery!

Thanks you for hangin in there and working with me.

FYI Here is what Stirling, Ondonga and Ballale should look like:

If they don't, if it is still all blocky and square, it shouldn't be a problem fixing it. I forget what the issue is off the top of my head but its a simple fix. Has nothing to do with Rhumbas mesh and masks. I was only asking earlier because I was thinking that perhaps some of the masks in Rhumbas masks may have been making ballale's land and shorelines disappear. But they wouldn't have anyway.

Usually untextured blocks are an issue with this...

LWM TYPE SCENERY included in these collections requires that you copy contents of your scenedb/world/texture folder to your main CFS2 texture folder. Its a one time deal- it won't hurt a thing.

Good morning gentlemen. I just woke up.

Hi Dave!

dasuto247, why do you ask about the default textures? Do you think you might have accidentally deleted some of them?

Did you do the copy of the textures from the "scenedb/world/texture folder to your main CFS2 texture folder"?

I'll be in and out of here all day.

Re: mr_solomons_081116

I had the same issue, in one of my PTO installs, with the same files some time ago. Just stumbling around I discovered that removing select bgls in each solved the problem.
My notes (some time in 2014) show......
In the case of Ballale I deleted "ballale_poly_8.bgl" and "lc_ballale.bgl" .
Same problem with Ondonga....I deleted "SI Ondonga_poly_8.bgl".
Same again with "SI_Stirling_Is". Delete "Stirling_poly_8.bgl" and all is well.
I really didn't have a clue what was at issue. But it worked, as far as I could tell, so I just smiled and moved on.

I guess I should have raised the issue at the time but when I found a solution I dropped it. Thank you dasuto247 for the thread, this has been very illuminating.

And while I'm at it....my same notes show that in Nov. 2014 I ran into a similar issue with "Tsili Tsili 43". Big green squares surround the airfield.
Removing the Earth.bgl from the scenery folder solved it and made the big green squares go away.

I still don't know why.

MaskRider

Hiya Worthless.

Well, here is the deal. Unless those files you removed were still present in some other activated scenery folder there is no way in the world that the three locations you mentioned could have come out looking like they are supposed to look, as shown in the three screenshots I posted above. Not a chance.

Those files absolutely must be present for the scenery to look the way it looks in those pictures. They are the guts of the scenery.

You must have these same or some other MR Solomons bgls covering the same ground as these MR Solomon s bgls installed and activated someplace. Operative word = MUST

First note in README:
NOTE: DUMP ALL EXISTING MR SOLOMONS FILES (THEY WILL CAUSE
CONFLICT).
IF YOU HAVE THEM ALL IN THE SAME FOLDER THIS WILL BE EASY.

Interesting.Ill give it a try. Also having the green squares around Rabaul.Running New Britain_UT.Same concept you think? NB was running fine until I added the files via the scenery list (as readme instructs) instead of putting directly into the scenery, as I thought was supposed to do.Which is why I asked if anyone had the default textures. Ill see if your fix for Ballale works.

Would it be okay to leave out the mariannas files and add just the bonins and iwo? See I want Bonins and Iwo but dont want Mariannas Americanized yet, still flying before June 44.Asking should the pack work fine without mariannas files but for Bonins? Iwo looks great but has its own files.

LOL! I am not sure I even want to start down that track at all. Lots of complications and considerations. I think you might be reaching a point that many of us reach at some point where you decide to start making your own scenery to suit your your own needs.

Yeah! I knew it wasn't right, but it worked.....sort of. If I told you all the other fixes I've had to resort to in CFS2, some of the original builders, including MS, would all have a collective cow. I know you are shaking your head in wonder, but I'm sure not complaining. I've had a ball trying out new scenery and AC. Sometimes it works and sometimes it's a mess. I'll never be as creative as most of the contributors here at SOH, but it's fun to tinker. I remember one of my PTO installs had a shear cliff face running right down the middle of Florida Island. I don't know how it got there. None of my other PTO's had it. So, I messed around with it and then ......poof, gone. It just wasn't there anymore. I have no idea what I did to cause it or what I did to make it disappear.
When I first tried out "AF_PNG_PM" by Pen32win, the whole Port Moresby area was a mess. Big green blurred squares. The airbases were fine, but everything outside of it was big green squares. For a while I just lived with it. Then one day I just deleted two bgls from the scenery folder and , SHAZAM, all of the forested area was the correct texture. I knew it shouldn't work.....but it did, sort of. Maybe sometime when I run out of other things that need my attention, I'll go back and see if I can install it correctly. For now I'm on to greener pastures.
