Is there a way for me to remove, or delete a stock airfield, for example "Ocean Island". And if it is possible how is it done? Thanks.

I hope will be usefull also for you.

Kwb737,

If it is a stock airfield, no. The reason for this is that the fifty airfields that came with the original game were compiled as one .bgl file. Ergo, the only possible way to do this would be to decompile the entire .bgl file, isolate the airfield you wish to remove, and then recompile the .bgl with said item removed.

The best you can do is remove the airfield .gob file and airbase.dat entry.

In short, it's kind of a Three Musketeers deal.

Stockplane,

Technically, you didn't ask the same question. In your situation, you are setting up a theatre of operations that is entirely separate from the Pacific. Ergo, removing all of the airbases via the method I described serves your purpose because you want them gone anyway.

If Kwb737 is asking whether he can remove a specific airbase from the Pacific while keeping the others, that's entirely different, hence the different response.

I was wondering about just one stock airfield. Thank you for the info. :encouragement:

kwb737,

It can be done.

Download GavinCs gsl default bases http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?action=jump&catid=45&id=5572
Follow the instructions. You will now have separate entries for each of the default bases.
To remove Ocean Island, simply delete or move to an archive subfolder the relevant bgls. Relaunch the game - no Ocean Island base.

Stockplane,

No need to apologize, my friend! I just wanted to highlight the difference to avoid any confusion. :very_drunk:

Just remember Rami is correct wrt the gsl scenery. That will show up with or without the runway unless you use Martin's GSL tools & remove the gob that is associated with it.

... a few years back someone pointed out there are some remote PTO areas of the stock GSL file where MS programmers forgot gsl objects, as if they meant to build a strip there, placed buildings and then changed their minds.

Then they forgot to remove the objects from the gobs involved.

I cannot recall which thread was and when it was posted, but it talked about a 'ghost' airfield. I also wish I could point out where it is, but it was quite a while ago. Even if I can recall in my mind the shots posted, I cannot help finding the location again.
I remember just a few hangars and barracks sticking out of the jungle top near the ocean, without a runway.

It's just a good example supporting UncleTgt's comments above.

Cheers!

On the other hand, if the leftover objects don't clash with anything newly added, they can also add some additional flavoring to the local landscape. A small scattering of unrelated, leftover gsl facilities near a new base can make the area around the new base appear more populated in some cases. It can even serve as an expansion of the new base in appearances only.

I've always lamented the lack of autogen scenery coding in this sim -- makes the bases appear more like remote outposts, even in an area that in reality is a well populated location. Whenever i get this leftover gsl occurrence in a scenery change, i just leave them for the looks. :very_drunk:
