IMO, 3-MS looks more silver on the real thing. If that Mt. Kyle represents the Murphy's War movie model, maybe a lot more weathering is in order..It also did not have the engine cowl. Which was included in the original Duck texture set.

Hey awesome! Two comments.

The blue on the RN version is more like this:

http://imageshack.com/a/img910/6272/Ycekji.jpg

Also, the Marine duck in the pic above needs to be a brighter, more anodized metal finish. I would fade/blend the rivet and panel lines a bit more on the RN duck. Otherwise GREAT!!! :)

see, being colorblind isn't always easy...I'll try the other blue. And yea, weathering, no worries, but before I got my teeth into it, I wanted to be sure about the blue. And rightly so it seems.

So I forget about the Marines paint, and no, I don't think Murphy's version without the cowl was part of the original package. I am talking here about the Duck by Paul Domingue of course, not the other one, which did have a version without the cowl.

ejoiner, I tried your blue, but that's far too light. Here's the texture:
http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/ww230/jcblom60/Duck/j2f_1_T.jpg (http://s722.photobucket.com/user/jcblom60/media/Duck/j2f_1_T.jpg.html)
see how the color is lighter that the blue of the fin flash?
If you watch the movie:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e3anBO5O5yo
from 31:00, you'll see that the blue paint is in fact darker than the blue of the fin flash (which I am assuming has the right RAF colour), so I am trying for a darker blue, not a lighter...

Jankees, if I am off, its not by much.

Heres a color chart. http://www.ipmsstockholm.org/colorcharts/stuff_eng_colorcharts_uk.htm

I think the right color is PRU blue.

I think your roundel colors may also be off. Do a google image search of "RAF roundels ww2" and you'll see tons with more faded blue colors.

well, I beg to differ, sorry about that. You can blame my colorblindness if you want...but PRU blue, no, absolutely not

You know I was so intrigued by this I went on Amazon prime and bought and downloaded the movie "Murphys war" last night. had been years and years since I last saw it. Very interesting film and yes the plane is blue. Possibly less saturation on the blue, but otherwise BLUE. Also, in the beginning of the film, the plane does have a cowling. After the original pilot crashes it, its left in pieces, which you can see. O'Toole removes it when he repairs the plane.

Turned out I had both Paul's and Swingman's duck in my hanger. This is Swingman's. I think Jan's paint and textures are much nicer on Paul's model, but I like the pilot and co-pilot figures in Swingman's better. I can't get any glass with Paul's model in DX10, even with Steve's fixer. So I fly with the canopy open. Beautiful sheen on this silver model. Love the staining.

Jan shamed me and I'm steadily pumping away on an update for the "Bad Duck". I'm working on new pilot and radio man characters as we speak which I intend to animate. I have a model of the Mount Kyle which I did not release. It's the -6 model as seen in Murphy's War. My favorite movie of all time BTW!
I don't know what my system runs FSX in but I would think it is DX10 or 11. Is there any way I can check this for myself to see what could be the problem for dvj?

here we are out of Elmendorf

http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/attachment.php?attachmentid=20792&stc=1

here is an idea for a very heavily weathered Duck. The "Candy Clipper"

from The Fantasy of Flight website

the “Candy Clipper,” which served in the Philippines on Bataan. The aircraft, along with two other, had sunk and were left by the Navy. A local Army Air Corps P-40 base floated the one aircraft and rebuilt it. It made four flights to bring in badly needed medical supplies for the troops. Some candy was thrown in for good measure and that’s how it got its name. The “Candy Clipper” was the last aircraft to leave Bataan during the siege of the island in 1942.

OK, just to clarify a bit more: my paints are for the present model by Paul Domingue.
So if you download now, you can use them, and there is no need for any waiting.
Paul told me he was working on additional models, like the J2F-6 and a model for Murphy's war, so without the engine cowling, but that is still in the future.
You can also download Swingmans model, but my paints do not work for that model as far as I know.

roger that, Jankees.
I was reading Paul's 'update' comment to mean new pilot figures and animations for the existing model - and that probably wouldn't compromise your recent paints (but I may be wrong on that)

A new -6 version (with or without engine cowling) would be a different story.

I have been updating the duck but I am making sure that it does not affect any repaints. The Murphy's War model will be separate as it is an odd ball but it does offer the opportunity to show off the engine which was a bit of an overkill as most of it can't be seen with a cowl.

I had a very nice long over water flight from Tern Island to Barking Sands this evening in the duck. this bird is a fun night flyer as it has great lighting except it needs some sort of red light in the cockpit when a map light is needed. Anyway. Great flight til I managed to nose over and kill myself on landing at PHBK. darn it. I have tacpack installed, so death is pretty spectacular when you die by fire.

our little duck has been playing in the mud a bit more:

and since I do most of my flying down under, I thought I'd paint something for down there as well (I know, as far as I know there never was a Duck on the roster in OZ, but who cares?)

JanKees,

Has this one been done before? IF not, would you do a paint of this one? :adoration:
BTW, are all the paints ^ avail yet? If so, where can I find them. Thanks.....

Gray Eagle, the "Bad Duck" original paint scheme I made with the poetic license of adding Donald Duck is of VJ-62 Fleet Air Photographic Unit 3 based out of NAS Norfolk, VA. If you downloaded the model here at SOH (the only place I posted it) you would have VJ-62 as one of the -5 model selections.

Ooops, I found this one. It is part of the basic textures. Question, I gather you took the liberty of adding the Duck to the side and that the original markings for that particular
squadron as it did not have the duck icon on it. Unless the original VJ62 had this bad duck icon, I would prefer the duck cartoon of VJ62 texture removed. Thanks. :)

Ok, it's taken me a while, but the Candy Clipper has finally landed on OZx (http://aussiex.org/forum/index.php?/files/file/5147-paul-domingues-bad-duck-candy-clipper/)

and if you want, I can redo that photographic unit paintjob, but only in in two weeks time, I have a holiday coming up soon...two more days at work, and I'm off to Lake Como, yes!

Thank you JanKees so very much for all the beautiful repaints of the Duck and stimulating interest in it again.

I'll be more then happy to trash my VJ-62 paint for something you made. :encouragement:
